ESMÉ IS RESTORING THE GLORY OF ESPAÑOLA WAY’S ARTISTIC HEYDAY
More than a hotel, Esmé is a portal to another world, a window into the halcyon days of hustlers that played ‘em as they laid, artists that dared to break the mold, and It girls that left their beauty mark on the styles of the times. The Village is a multi-faceted gem alongside the buzz of Española Way, yet hidden among hushed historic paseos, and extends to the character-rich Casa Matanza. With a nod to the Spanish-Mediterranean influence on Esmé’s architecture, the thrilling tastes of Spain dance with the magically diverse Latin flavors of Miami, beckoning the old country’s lust for life and deliciously slower pace. Originally The Clay Hotel, Esmé the crown jewel of Miami Beach sparkles like she was always meant to.
Originally the Clay Hotel, Esmé’s walls are textured with the memories of a long and colorful past. Almost 100 years ago, enterprising visionaries set on realizing a “scenographic...primer on the architectural history of the Mediterranean region” for world travelers who felt that “Miami Beach lacked an area with a creative atmosphere for artists”. Española Way was, in all ways, destined to be distinct, but the Clay gave guests their most storied stays and a haven for scheming conmen hiding out along the ports. And though the times may have changed, Esmé Miami Beach was designed to reimagine this 100 years of history with as much artistry as the original guests sought... and as much aura as the original property provided. As today’s creative class seeks out new and niche modes of memory-making, and their nouveaubohemian sensibilities disrupt old standards in hospitality, Esmé—as a hotel, village, and brand—stands out in choice for how it stands up for originality. To visit is to not just be steps away from the whitesands of Miami Beach, or the charismatic corridors, local vendors, and dining establishments of Española Way, or even the seasonal attractions of Art Basel and the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, it’s to also step away from time itself.

From the bustling busy streets of South Beach, to the quieter neighborhood beaches of Key Biscayne. Miami has you covered for each and every type of beach experience you are searching for! Here are some of our favorite beaches to explore with the family & even with Fido!
South Beach: South Beach is perhaps the most famous beach in Miami. It's located in the heart of the Art Deco Historic District and offers white sand, turquoise waters, and a lively atmosphere. This beach is known for its colorful lifeguard stands and is a popular spot for people-watching and water sports.
Miami Beach: Miami Beach, often referred to as Mid Beach, is a more relaxed and family-friendly option compared to South Beach. It features a wide sandy shore, a picturesque boardwalk, and a range of water activities. The area is dotted with luxury resorts and hotels.
Crandon Park Beach: Located on Key Biscayne, Crandon Park Beach is a serene and natural oasis. It offers a two-mile stretch of sandy coastline, picnic areas, and lush vegetation. The shallow waters are perfect for swimming, and the park also features a family-friendly amusement center and a nature center.
Haulover Beach Park: Haulover Beach Park is renowned for its clothing-optional section, making it a popular destination for naturists. However, it also has a family-friendly section with soft sands, clear waters, and a marina for fishing and boating. The beach is set within a beautiful park with various amenities.
Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park: Located on the southern tip of Key Biscayne, Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park is home to the historic Cape Florida Lighthouse. The beach here is relatively quiet and offers a more natural setting with lovely views of the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors can explore nature trails and enjoy a picnic in the park.
DOG FRIENDLY: Haulover Dog Beach is a great option where your dogs can be completely off leash and enjoy the sand & sun! Check google for opening hours as dog hours are limited.
Key Biscayne Dog Beach is a local smaller beach strip where pups can also play off leash.

From the moment you step inside The Drexel, it’s clear that this is a place built for connection. The atmosphere is as much about the people as it is about the food. Whether you’re dining with family, friends, or colleagues, the ambiance encourages conversation and camaraderie. The team intentionally created a space where you can hear the hum of conversation rather than the thumping of loud music. The focus is on the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and the gentle bustle of Miami Beach life. The Drexel’s design blends contemporary sophistication with a touch of rustic charm. The outdoor patio, draped in string lights and surrounded by lush greenery, provides the perfect backdrop for a romantic dinner or a lively gathering with friends. “We wanted to create an energetic but comfortable environment that could cater to all kinds of gatherings,” says husband and wife duo, Chef Nano Crespo and Tamara Magalhaes.
No visit to The Drexel is complete without sampling one of its signature cocktails. The Drexel Margarita, made with mezcal and a citrusy twist, is a best-seller, while the Moroccan Mojito—featuring coconut and tarragon— offers a unique take on the classic. The Drexel’s generous happy hour runs daily from opening until sunset, featuring wood-grilled appetizers and exclusive items perfect for sharing. From lamb meatballs to grilled seafood, the menu encourages guests to sample a bit of everything.
In a city full of trendy spots, The Drexel stands apart, where the food speaks for itself, and the atmosphere invites you to slow down and savor the moment. It’s more than just a restaurant—it’s a place to gather with loved ones, share great food, and enjoy the Mediterranean flavors that have become a hallmark of Miami Beach. As Tamara puts it, “The Drexel is a little gem—a place where you can have a great meal in a beautiful setting without the crowds and hype of larger, more commercialized spots.” For an authentic dining experience that blends Mediterranean simplicity with the energy of Miami Beach, The Drexel is the place to be.
An oasis of class on a peerless promenade, an emerald in the rough. Esmé is a 1920’s artist’s village, dressed up in the cues of modern luxury for a new experience of chic escape in Miami Beach — a time away from time.
The picture perfect setting for creating & capturing memories where you can get lost in an experience that’s more than meets the eye. A place where experience-seekers discover what they’re seeking and culture-creators find a more creative refuge.
A restaurant on Española Way making good on the boulevard’s name. Adjacent to Esmé Miami Beach Hotel, Tropezón is a charming, Andalusian-inspired spot boasting a generous list of Spanish wines, sherries and gincentric cocktails.
Owners Randy Alonso Chris Hudnall, who are also behind downtown’s popular Americana bar Lost Boy Dry Goods, traveled throughout Spain to gain insight into daily life and tapas culture for the concept. They drew inspiration from laid-back village bars, combining the old-world architecture they encountered with their preferred Western aesthetic to create a saloon-type feel. “The idea was to create a playful space with a combination of Western and Spanish touches that are random but intriguing at the same time,” says Alonso. Vintage furnishings and Alonso’s own collection of memorabilia strewn about combine to present a nostalgic view of Spain.
Short of closing for siesta, Tropezón endeavors to stay true to an Andalusian restaurant with its food and drink offerings. The menu packs in all of the classics you’d expect from a tapas bar, including tortilla Española, gambas al ajillo, gazpacho, patatas brava and tablas de jamón Ibérico. All, of course, meant for sharing. Larger plates take more artistic liberty, such as the cowboy ribeye seasoned with a five-spice coffee rub.
The country’s signature cocktail, the gin tonic, is front and center with more than 20 different gin infusions, from teas and fruits to cured meats. Think savory gin martinis, colorful g&ts like the blue matcha yuzu and local strawberry. Sherry and vermouth are also widely available for those who prefer to indulge in Spain’s classic fortified wines.
Fancy a trip to the Iberian peninsula? Tropezón is now open at 512 Española Way, serving dinner nightly.

About Esmé.. a project that turned a historic space into a design gem
For her first-ever hotel project, the Manhattan-based interior designer Jessica Schuster took on the project of the Esmé and Casa Matanza buildings, on South Beach’s Española Way promenade. The 145-room Esmé’s interiors were meant to be “softer and sweeter,” Schuster says, while at 42 rooms, Casa Matanza is “darker and moodier,” but in both, Schuster employed a color palette of saturated citrus and jewel tones, and retained many architectural features from the hotels’ original 1920s buildings, including arched doorways, pecky cypress ceilings and a fireplace uncovered during demolition. The result is a richly eclectic space that guests may not want to leave, and won’t need to: Schuster connected Esmé’s multiple roof decks with a series of small bridges, so visitors can saunter from the new pool to cabanas to the Spanish tapas restaurant and sangria bar, with Casa Matanza soon be connected via a subterranean passageway so that people may take discreet advantage of each property’s amenities. “I was borrowing from yesterday, today and tomorrow to create this whimsical and fantastical experience,” Schuster says. “It’s very different for Miami.”
Whether you want a chill day by the pool or to hit the beach, we have you covered! If you’re looking to head to the beach, ask our friendly front desk staff about directions to our beach section and about our cute retro coolers! Pack up and take some drinks to-go for the perfect south beach seaside day!
NEW MIAMI BEACH STEAKHOUSE BRINGS MOODY VIBES AND ELEVATED DISHES

Reservations only in Dorsia plataform | @thejoycerestaurant
Miami Beach is now home to The Joyce, an intimate 45seat steakhouse on Española Way, led by renowned chef James Taylor. Known for his work in Chicago’s Michelinstarred kitchens like Alinea and Bavette's Bar and Boeuf, Taylor brings his modern culinary style to this sophisticated new venture. With dim lighting and a speakeasy vibe, The Joyce offers a refined yet relaxed dining experience.
The restaurant opened its doors on January 10, and joins The Window at the Joyce, a walk-up burger spot that debuted in December 2024. Both establishments are the result of Spicy Hospitality Group, a partnership between Taylor, art collector Andre Sakhai, and entrepreneur Marc Lotenberg.
Wednesday to Sundays: 6:00pm - 11:00pm
At The Joyce, the menu features standout dishes like Ossetra caviar with latkes, A5 Wagyu beef, and handcut tagliolini pomodoro with aged Parmigiano Reggiano. Steak options include an 18-ounce wetaged Chicago cut ribeye and a six-ounce Japanese A5 tenderloin. Seafood lovers can enjoy local crudo and shrimp cocktail, while sides like hand-cut fries with caramelized onion aioli and French beans almondine complete the experience.
Craft cocktails, created by Japanese mixologist Takuya Mizuguchi, and a curated wine list of over 100 bottles by Miami expert Andrew Herron, complement the menu perfectly.
More than just a restaurant, The Joyce doubles as an art gallery with rotating works from Sakhai’s private collection, featuring pieces by Picasso and Basquiat. The stylish design features custom walnut millwork, Gio Ponti chairs, and modern stools by Joe Colombo, creating an environment where art and dining beautifully converge.
Whether for a sophisticated evening out or a more casual bite, The Joyce is already becoming a standout destination in Miami Beach.

Meet Shawn Kolodny, a contemporary artist whose work seamlessly merges artistic expression with the environment around it. With dual bases in Miami and New York, Kolodny has built a career over the past 15 years, transitioning from an entrepreneur and investor to a renowned creator of large-scale, immersive sculptures and installations.
At the heart of Kolodny's artistry is his distinctive use of spheres—spherical forms that not only captivate the eye but also serve as reflective mirrors of the world. These gleaming orbs invite viewers to interact with them, offering an experience that bridges the personal and the universal, pulling audiences into a dynamic relationship with the artwork. The sphere, in Kolodny’s hands, becomes a symbol of both the natural world and the geometric perfection that exists within it.
Kolodny’s sculptures are more than just visual displays; they invite viewers to step inside the artwork and engage with it on a deeper level. His installations break traditional boundaries, creating immersive environments where the audience becomes an integral part of the artistic experience. This dynamic approach has led to high-profile collaborations, including with Four Seasons, BMF, the Something in the Water Festival, and his ongoing partnership with the House of Creed.
As part of his work with Creed, Kolodny has designed sculptural installations for the brand’s holiday windows in over 30 locations worldwide. His latest project—a largescale public sculpture on Miami’s Española Way—draws inspiration from Creed’s iconic fragrance bottle. The piece transforms the space into a multi-sensory experience, blending art, architecture, and scent to capture the essence of the brand in both visual and tactile ways.
“My artwork’s innate reflective qualities naturally complement the sheer class of Creed. To enhance the aesthetic connection, I carefully orchestrate my designs around the contours of the iconic bottle. By incorporating both gold and silver spheres, I was able to define and elevatethesilhouetteofthebottleinauniquemanner. However, the true essence of this display lies in its intentional interplay of form and emptiness. A meticulously arranged constellation of spheres defines the Creed bottle in negative space. This design choice beckons the viewer into a captivating dance of perception, urging them to recognize the allure in both thetangiblespheresandtheintangiblevoidtheycreate.”
The striking sculpture, created in collaboration with the City of Miami Beach, the House of Creed, and Esmé Miami Beach, has become a landmark on Española Way. Its dynamic reflective surfaces evoke movement and fluidity, drawing viewers into a deeply immersive experience where they become part of the artwork itself. Enhanced by the scent of Creed’s signature fragrance, the piece blends sight, touch, and smell for a truly multi-sensory encounter, inviting all who pass by to engage with the art on a personal level.
