Combining the functions of a premium rollator and transport wheelchair (certified in both modes) in a single product, the Glide 2 in 1 features Uplivin’s patented quickconversion system, enabling rapid transition between rollator and transport wheelchair modes without tools.

understanding how someone wants to live and then designing a solution that helps make that possible. Some of our best projects come from creative thinking and looking at a property differently to find opportunities that others may miss."
Rather than focusing on a single product or adaptation, Adapt My Home works with homeowners, families, occupational therapists, case managers and healthcare professionals to understand how a person lives within their home, the challenges they face and how those challenges may change in the future.
Debbie continues: “Every property presents its own opportunities and constraints, which is why creative thinking is such an important part of what we do. We pride ourselves on designing practical solutions that make the best use of available space, often identifying options that clients, families and professionals may not have previously considered.
“Whether adapting a bathroom, improving access between floors or creating a fully accessible living environment, we take a truly holistic approach, combining specialist equipment, thoughtful design and construction expertise to deliver solutions tailored to both the individual and the property.”
Its projects can include stairlifts (as pictured, above right), through-floor lifts, ceiling track hoists, level access bathing, wash and dry toilets, ramps, access solutions and associated building works. As Adapt My Home offers a broad range of solutions, it is not tied to a single approach.
Accredited Level 4 Trusted Assessors at Adapt My Home are trained to assess and recommend solutions in many cases where occupational therapist involvement is not required.
A significant strength of its service, the firm states, is that the vast majority of work is completed by its own in-house team. From assessment and design through to installation and aftercare, customers benefit from a single point of contact and accountability throughout the project.
Specialist external support is only brought in where appropriate, such as structural engineering calculations or specialist flooring requirements within level access bathing projects.
Debbie adds: “We work with many

of the industry's leading manufacturers, including Guldmann, Stiltz, Wessex, Access BDD, Otolift, Easiaccess, Geberit, Closomat, AKW and Pressalit. We are proud to work with brands that have established reputations for quality, reliability and longevity, ensuring our customers receive solutions they can depend upon for years to come.”
Adapt My Home currently supports customers across Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and surrounding areas, delivering everything from individual equipment installations through to full home adaptation projects.
Alongside the launch of Adapt My Home, Clark & Partners has welcomed Adam Broomhead as Associate Director to help strengthen and grow this area of the business.
Adam brings extensive industry experience to the firm, combining a practical background in plumbing and adaptation works with technical sales and engineering expertise. His understanding of both products and installation requirements gives him a unique perspective on delivering

successful adaptation projects.
Adam will work within the leadership team to strengthen and grow the home adaptations division, develop new partnerships and support the continued expansion of Adapt My Home across the region.
Paul Bennett, Managing Director of Clark & Partners, comments: “We are delighted to welcome Adam to the team. His industry knowledge, technical expertise and customer-focused approach make him a natural fit for Clark & Partners and Adapt My Home.
“This is an important appointment for us and demonstrates our commitment to growing the business. Adam will help strengthen an already experienced team and support our ambition to become the first choice for home adaptations across the region."
The launch of Adapt My Home is an exciting new venture for Clark & Partners, which as a wider business, remains fully committed to all aspects of its operations, including its four mobility stores, as well as its vehicle adaptations and mobility equipment services.
Wondering which moving and handling products are grabbing mobility companies’ attention? This month we asked retailers in the industry to highlight a product that stands out for them…
“The Swivel Seat is a practical mobility aid designed to make everyday transfers smoother, safer, and more comfortable for both users and caregivers. Whether moving between a bed and chair, getting in and out of a vehicle, or repositioning while seated, the swivel seat helps reduce the effort and strain often associated with these movements.
“Featuring a smooth 360-degree rotating mechanism, the seat allows users to turn easily in any direction without the need for awkward twisting or excessive movement. This can help improve confidence and independence while making transfers more controlled and comfortable.
“Lightweight and portable, the Swivel Seat can be used throughout the home or taken on journeys, making it a versatile solution for everyday mobility support. The supportive padded design provides lasting comfort during use, while the soft fleece cover adds an extra layer of warmth and cushioning. For added convenience and hygiene,

the fleece cover can be easily removed and machine washed.
“By reducing the need for lifting, twisting, and turning during transfers, the seat can also help minimise physical strain on caregivers, lowering the risk of discomfort and back injuries. Simple to use and highly effective, it offers a reliable way to improve comfort, safety, and ease of movement in daily life.
“Whether for regular daily support
or occasional assistance, the Swivel Seat provides a simple and practical solution for improving mobility and independence.”

“At TPG we often major in the larger mechanical items to supply and install for our assessed customer base. This will often include using mechanical means to enable transfers and moving of clients that have lost the ability to be independent.
“Our first choice in ceiling track solutions to facilitate safe and efficient movements is the range from Guldmann.
“There are many quality tracking solutions that use innovative and strong elements to achieve coverage where it is required, rather than necessarily changing the client's way of daily living to suit the hoist.
“Added to that, there are a number of variations on the lifting pod that can be tailored to suit both domestic and institutional requirements.
“These all align with the company ethos of creating more time for the
“The Atlas Advance is a fantastic transfer aid, one recommended by occupational therapists. Designed with the comfort and safety of both the caregiver and user in mind, the Atlas Advance is an incredibly useful piece of equipment to help the user carefully sit down or stand up. It can even be used for short distance transfers, thanks to its four castors and two central wheels.
“It’s a great option to help those who have the core strength to stand but need extra support in doing so (assuming they are also able to grasp the handles and follow instructions). The carer acts as the counterbalance, allowing the user to pull themselves up to a standing position (or lower themselves down).
“The Atlas Advance isn’t a
one-size-fits-all solution, it has a unique four-bar system that gives a range of options, so that the right setting can be found to accommodate people of different heights, removing the need to strain or overreach.
“The contoured, padded dual-knee pads are also height and width adjustable for user comfort. Additional knee pad covers are also available separately for extra cushioning.
carer to actually care for the client rather than battle with unwieldly equipment.
“The Guldmann GH3 and GH1 hoists have the added benefit of being exceptionally reliable, which in turn ensures uninterrupted serve use for the clients.
“Additionally these products, due to the high quality engineering involved, are increasingly used as rehabilitation or therapy aids. They can, with the use of an appropriate harness, be used as a walking trainer in a physiotherapy setting or as an exercise aid to restore mobility in a safe manner.”

“Unlike traditional commodes the Derby Corner Commode offers a uniquely shaped design which provides access from the front or either side.
“Under the seat cushion, the chair features a threeposition cassette holding the Ashby pan, which swivels so that it can be securely positioned to the left, right or centre. This allows the chair to be situated in the corner of a room, ideal for space saving but more importantly, for those less mobile, it can be placed directly alongside a bed, and the user can side transfer to the left or right on to it. The Ashby commode pan has a lock and lift lid,
“The extra wide 90-degree access between the arms, combined with a large, contoured seating area, helps to make the commode comfortable for any user. Its robust construction and sturdy legs give a high level of stability.
“The Derby Corner Commode is a truly discreet commode chair that features a stylish polished hardwood frame and vinyl upholstered seat and backrest which resembles a standard piece of household furniture rather than a medical aid. This helps to preserve the user’s dignity and allows the commode to blend naturally into domestic surroundings.
"Its maximum weight capacity is 254kg.”

“The Swivel Patient Turner is a practical transfer aid designed to help weight-bearing individuals move safely between beds, chairs, wheelchairs, commodes, and toilets. It is ideal for users who have good upper body strength and can stand with assistance but require support when turning and transferring.
“The turner features a rotating platform that allows smooth and controlled pivoting between seated positions, reducing the need for twisting and awkward movements. This helps minimise the risk of strain for both the user and the carer while making
transfers safer and more comfortable.
“The sturdy steel frame provides excellent stability, while the multiple-grip handlebar offers secure hand positioning throughout the transfer process.

“For additional support, the Swivel Patient Turner includes padded lower leg supports that can be adjusted in width, angle, and height to suit individual users.
“The angled handlebar encourages a more natural standing movement, helping users rise comfortably and confidently. Its compact footprint makes it suitable for use in the home, care homes, and healthcare environments where space may be limited.
“Despite its robust construction, the turner can be dismantled without tools for transportation and storage. Easyclean surfaces and durable materials make it practical for regular daily use. The design is intended for individuals who can bear weight and actively participate in transfers.
“The Swivel Patient Turner is a reliable and effective transfer aid that promotes safer moving and handling.”

comfort and security when lifting or transferring a patient to or from a bed, chair or even the floor.
“In particular the Birdie Evo Compact is very popular as it allows the customer to transport it to another location due to it being foldable. We offer a hire service at Thistle Help and this is our go-to hoist for holidaymakers at the local caravan sites. It has a smaller footprint for easier manoeuvrability which makes it ideal for use in the caravans and lodges.
“It has a lifting range up to 1,590mm in height and a safe working load of 150kg. There is the option to have either electrical or mechanical legs.
“One of the features we like is the distinct curved design of the boom and spreader bar which allows carers to maintain eye contact with clients at all points of a transfer.
“We need to be

confident that the equipment we are providing is reliable and built to last. When it comes to hoisting equipment, our go to is the Birdie Evo range.”

Founded in Taiwan in 1986, Merits Health Products has been providing mobility solutions for nearly four decades. The firm manufactures a wide range of products including manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and seating products.

EARLIER THIS YEAR MERITS RESTARTED PRODUCTION AND GLOBAL ACCESS TO ITS MOTIVATION WHEELCHAIR RANGE FOR PEOPLE LIVING IN LOW-RESOURCED REGIONS – WHY WAS THIS MOVE IMPORTANT?
“For disabled people and wheelchair services in low resource countries and regions experiencing conflict, the Motivation range represents the gold standard and is often the starting point for mobility, education, employment and rights and I’m proud to work for an organisation that considers people’s needs globally.
“Motivations' everyday wheelchairs, seating systems and trikes are highly

adjustable and built to handle the difficult terrain people encounter, not just occasionally, but often all day every day. They are designed for local maintenance and repair, giving years of service, even in the toughest conditions.

“It is fantastic that Merits has stepped in to ensure the continued availability of this essential product range. Having manufactured these products for over 25 years, Merits possesses an unrivalled understanding of their design, performance and clinical application. In many ways, it feels like a natural homecoming for the range.
“This transition not only ensures continuity for our existing customers but it also provides opportunities for further investment in product development, stock availability and customer support.

“Frank made a significant contribution to the growth of Merits in the UK and we thank him for his dedication over many years.
“Following his retirement, we have adopted a broader management structure that reflects the growth ambitions of the business. Our UK operation is supported by dedicated sales, clinical, customer service and operational teams, working closely with Merits' global leadership group.
“This structure allows us to provide faster decision-making, stronger customer support and greater resources for both NHS and dealer partners. IN 2025 MERITS WAS APPOINTED TO THE NHS FRAMEWORK FOR THE SUPPLY OF POWERED WHEELCHAIRS – WHICH PRODUCTS DO YOU SUPPLY FOR THIS?
“Merits was successfully appointed to the NHS Supply Chain framework for powered wheelchairs, which represented a significant milestone for the business.
“The framework includes products such as the Vision Ultra powered wheelchair ranges. These products have been developed to deliver the clinical functionality required by NHS services whilst also offering exceptional reliability, ease of maintenance and value for money.
“Progress has been extremely

positive. NHS services are increasingly looking for suppliers that can deliver quality products quickly and consistently. Our investment in UK stockholding has allowed us to offer lead times that are measured in days rather than months.
“We are committed to supply configured powerchairs that are dispatched within 48 hours, helping services reduce waiting lists and improve the speed of provision for wheelchair users.
“Feedback has been particularly positive regarding product performance, serviceability and our ability to respond quickly to customer requirements.”

“The Merits Vision Sport and HD version of the Super have been developed as versatile and highly manoeuvrable powered wheelchairs that combine everyday practicality with outstanding comfort.

MERITS WAS IN THE PROCESS OF ESTABLISHING A DISTRIBUTION HUB IN THE UK LAST YEARCAN YOU TELL US ABOUT HOW THIS IS GOING AND HOW IT IS IMPROVING OPERATIONS?
“The development of our UK distribution capability has been one of the most important investments we have made.
“Today, our focus is on maintaining substantial UK stock levels to support both NHS and retail customers. This stockholding strategy allows us to offer industry-leading lead times, with all products and spare parts available for dispatch within 48 hours.
“For NHS wheelchair services, this means quicker assessments can be converted into chair deliveries. For retailers, it means reduced waiting times, improved customer satisfaction and greater confidence when recommending Merits products.
“The investment has also improved spare parts availability, helping reduce equipment downtime and ensuring users receive the support they need as quickly as possible. As demand continues to grow, we will continue investing in stock, logistics and operational infrastructure to maintain these service levels.”
“Our message to retailers is simple: there has never been a better time to

“We are exhibiting at the Posture and Mobility Conference in Doncaster in October which will be a first for Merits.
“We will continue to showcase our latest products at industry events and work closely with clinicians, wheelchair services and retailers across the country. Demonstrating how highquality powered wheelchairs can be supplied with lead times as short as 48 hours remains a key part of our message.
“Ultimately, our objective is to help transform wheelchair provision by delivering clinically effective products, exceptional service and reliable availability. By combining innovative products with substantial UK stockholding and rapid delivery, we believe Merits is uniquely positioned to support both NHS services and retailers in meeting the growing demand for mobility solutions.”

Customers can view a range of mobility solutions in the welcoming environment of this New Forest showroom…
Hart2Hart Mobility has been helping customers across Hampshire in the south of England and beyond to live independently for over six years. The flourishing business recently expanded its showroom on the edge of the New Forest due to increased customer demand...
The independently-run business was established back in June 2020 in Totton, and it has seen remarkable growth since then. As well as offering a large selection of wheelchairs and powerchairs, the showroom also stocks many larger items too, such as mobility scooters, stairlifts and riser recliners, as well as rollators, walking frames and daily living aids.
Marcus Hart, owner and director of Hart2Hart Mobility has extensive

experience working in the mobility sector having previously worked with the NHS delivering, collecting and repairing equipment out on the road to clients’ houses before going on to work for several mobility companies.
Marcus explains: “After many years of working for other companies I felt there must be a better way of looking after the customers, so I thought 'why not start my own'?
“Initially I was working from the kitchen and garage, supplying mobility equipment and carrying out repairs, then we found the vacant showroom. We are now into our sixth year of trading already!”
Marcus has lived in the Totton area for over half his life and he says that he could see that it would be a good location to open a mobility showroom with workshop.
This year Marcus decided to expand the space in the showroom after taking over some space next door in February. He says: “We have grown so much recently that we had to expand this year. We now have the rear and front of the shop, which is a huge advantage to us with more space, but also beneficial to our customers who can try the products to ensure it meets their requirements and even take it away the same day.”
Marcus is very much a hands-on director, he says. “I could be servicing a scooter or wheelchair one minute then serving a customer the next. I have

even been known to make a cuppa!”
Derek Fraser, General Manager, assists Marcus with the day-to-day running of the showroom. He looks after IT, accounts and customer sales. Customers are made to feel welcome when they enter the showroom and are invited to relax and enjoy a hot drink as they sample the riser recliners and other mobility equipment.
Some of the most popular items selling in the mobility showroom are lightweight portable scooters and powered wheelchairs. Marcus adds: “Carbon fibre makes many of these products so much lighter and it means customers can put them into their boot of their car with ease.”

Marcus says that it is very important for the business to have a good relationship with its suppliers. As it continues its steady growth in the sector, Prism Healthcare remains focused on delivering products and services that empower individuals with limited mobility…
Prism Healthcare is one of the UK's leading providers of specialist equipment and solutions that support people to live safely, comfortably and independently. Its focus is on delivering products that improve quality of life for service users while helping healthcare professionals and caregivers provide effective support.
In October 2024 Prism Healthcare acquired the Joerns Healthcare’s UK business, which included ‘Oxford’ range of products, a brand specialising in clinical hoisting equipment, slings and bathing equipment. THIIS chats to Chris Morgan, Managing Director of Homecare at Prism Healthcare, to find out how the business has been developing and its plans for the future…
CAN YOU BRIEFLY DESCRIBE THE TYPES OF PRODUCTS THAT PRISM HEALTHCARE SUPPLIES TO THE MARKET IN THE MOBILITY AND ACCESS SPACE?
“Across the sector, we offer a broad range of solutions including moving and handling equipment, patient lifts and hoists, specialist bathing products, pressure care solutions, beds and mattresses, transfer aids, and community equipment. Through our
numerous specialist businesses, we are able to support local authorities, NHS trusts, care providers, retailers and private customers with products that address a wide range of clinical and mobility needs. Many of our products can be customised and made to order, helping to address very specific patient needs.
“Our goal is not simply to supply equipment, but to provide comprehensive solutions that promote on-going independence, dignity and safety.”

My current focus is on bringing together the strengths of our various businesses, enhancing and refining our product offering, supporting our customers more effectively, and ensuring we continue to innovate in response to evolving market needs.

CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR ROLE AT PRISM HEALTHCARE, AND WHAT YOUR FOCUS IS CURRENTLY?
“As Managing Director of Homecare at Prism Healthcare, my role is to oversee the strategic development and growth of our homecare businesses while ensuring we deliver exceptional products and services to our customers and partners.
“Having spent more than 30 years in the healthcare equipment sector, across manufacturing, sales leadership, and senior management roles, I have
“Following the acquisition of the Oxford brand and business by Prism Healthcare in 2024, a significant part of my role has involved helping integrate expertise, product portfolios and customer support capabilities so that we can offer an even stronger proposition to the market.
“Our goal is not simply to supply equipment, but to provide comprehensive solutions”
“We have engaged commercial teams, looking for synergies, cross-training opportunities and better ways of working together, learning from each business, and building for a more consistent service offer across the group.”
PRISM HEALTHCARE HAS UNDERGONE A REBRAND IN RECENT MONTHS. PLEASE CAN YOU TELL US A BIT MORE ABOUT WHY IT DID THIS?
“The rebrand reflects the evolution of Prism Healthcare as a business. Over recent years, the organisation has grown significantly through both organic development and strategic acquisitions, bringing together a number of highly respected brands and specialist businesses.
“As we have expanded, it became increasingly important to present a clearer and more unified identity to the market. The refreshed branding helps customers better understand the breadth of expertise available across the group while reinforcing our commitment to innovation, quality and customer support.
“The rebrand is about more than a new visual identity. It represents a continued investment in the future of the business and demonstrates our ambition to be recognised as a leading provider of healthcare, mobility and access solutions across the UK and beyond.
“As you can imagine, a brand refresh across such a large organisation is a sizeable undertaking, so you will continue to see materials taking on a fresh look and feel as we move forward.”
WHAT PLANS DOES THE FIRM HAVE IN TERMS OF NEW PRODUCTS IT IS BRINGING INTO THE MARKET THIS YEAR?
“Much of our focus is centred on enhancing existing product ranges with new features, improved ergonomics, smarter controls and greater flexibility for different care environments. We are also exploring technologies that support more connected care and provide valuable operational insights for healthcare providers.
“While I am not at liberty to
“My current focus is on bringing together the strengths of our various businesses”
reveal every detail at this stage, customers can expect to see developments across moving and handling, specialist bathing and homecare equipment categories, with a strong emphasis on safety, ease of use and long-term value.”
THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE OF THE MAGAZINE IS FOCUSED ON MOVING AND HANDLING PRODUCTS. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT A COUPLE OF THE LATEST PRODUCTS IN THIS CATEGORY?
“Moving and handling remains one of the most important categories within healthcare equipment because it directly impacts both service user safety and caregiver wellbeing. Prism Healthcare is home to some of the industry’s leading brands and product solutions, and we actively work to ensure our products evolve over time and continue to address the needs of the market.
“One of our latest seating solutions is the Repose Lynton Healthcare Chair, a highly adaptable riser recliner designed to meet a wide range of clinical and care needs without requiring providers to stock multiple chair sizes. Its fully adjustable design gives healthcare teams complete control over seat width, depth, height and leg rest positioning, enabling the chair to be tailored precisely to each
individual’s comfort, posture and support requirements.
“Available with either single or dual tilt-in-space motors, the Lynton is particularly well suited to users with changing neurological conditions, offering assisted repositioning to help manage pressure, reduce the risk of skin breakdown and support oedema management.
"The chair also accommodates a variety of pressure management cushion options, including the ability to fit a preferred pressure cushion, while its discreet, homely appearance and hoist compatibility make it suitable for both care and domestic environments.”
“Another recent development is our ProForm range, which has been designed around sustainability and long-term adaptability. Hand-crafted in the UK, the range features adjustable components and advanced positioning functions, including independent tilt-in-space, back recline and leg rest elevation, allowing chairs to be adapted as users’ needs change and subsequently recycled for use by other clients, helping care providers maximise both outcomes and budgets.
“Beyond seating, we have also seen strong demand for the Oxford Up; an innovative stand-assist and transfer device designed for individuals who can participate in standing but require assistance. Its compact, portable design, high safe working load and focus on promoting rehabilitation and independence have made it an attractive solution across community, care home and rehabilitation settings. Although this product has been on the market for over two years now, it has become an incredibly popular choice within our wider healthcare equipment offering.”

“Across all moving and handling categories, our objective remains the same: helping organisations create safer environments while improving outcomes for both caregivers and those receiving care. Stay tuned for further developments across the Group portfolio as we strive to bring you leading solutions that transform lives.”
• Range up to 9.4 miles (100kg user weight)
• All-round suspension for comfort
• High back seat with Memory Foam cushion for optimum support

• Ergonomically designed joystick to prevent fatigue
• Equipped with anti-roll wheels and an intelligent braking system
• Brushless motor offers a smooth, quiet ride

• Quick release 10Ah battery

IS PRISM HEALTHCARE LOOKING TO EXPAND ITS RETAILER NETWORK IN ANY OF ITS PRODUCT CATEGORIES?
“We are always interested in speaking with retailers that share our commitment to delivering high-quality, effective solutions that keep patients safe and comfortable, and caregivers healthy and effective. We see excellent opportunities for growth across a number of categories, including moving and handling solutions, specialist bathing products and pressure care equipment.
“As a collection of leading brands, we have an incredibly diverse product offer alongside a wealth of experience to nurture our partners to be successful. We provide a host of resources including product training, technical support, sales guidance, marketing materials, referral schemes, assessors and installers, and access to our product specialists. Our aim is to help retailers confidently present and support our solutions while building long-term relationships with their
customers.
“We also work closely with our partners on product demonstrations, educational initiatives and market development opportunities.
“Retailers interested in exploring partnership opportunities with us can visit www.prismhealthcare.co.uk to find out more about our group portfolio or contact their local business development manager for guidance and support. If you’re unsure who your local contact is, you can call 0344 811 1158 and we’ll connect you.”
AN INCREASINGLY PROMINENT ROLE IN BUSINESS, CAN YOU TELL US HOW PRISM HEALTHCARE HAS BEEN EMBRACING THIS TECHNOLOGY?
“Artificial intelligence is creating opportunities across many industries, and healthcare equipment is no exception.

“At Prism Healthcare, we are actively exploring how AI and data-driven technologies can improve operational efficiency, enhance customer support and provide better insights for decision-making. Internally, AI tools are helping streamline certain administrative processes, improve information management and support productivity across our many business functions.
“From a broader industry perspective, there is significant potential for AI to contribute to preventative maintenance,

“The refreshed branding helps customers better understand the breadth of expertise available across the group”
equipment management, service scheduling and the analysis of usage data. These developments will undoubtedly help healthcare providers make more informed decisions and optimise resource allocation.
“As with any emerging technology, our approach is measured and focused on delivering genuine value rather than adopting solutions simply for the sake of innovation.”
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT PRISM HEALTHCARE’S TRAINING ARM? FOR INSTANCE, WHAT PRODUCTS DOES THE BUSINESS OFFER TRAINING FOR?
“Training is a critical component of safe and effective equipment use, which is why Prism Healthcare places significant emphasis on education and knowledge sharing. As well as our business development managers being highly skilled in clinical application of our products, we are also home to HME Training; a team of highly qualified trainers that specialise in effective, engaging and focused training for care providers.
“Our training programmes support a wide range of audiences, including occupational therapists, healthcare professionals, community equipment providers, carers, service engineers, installers, retailers and care home staff.
“Training can cover moving and handling equipment, hoists, slings, transfer systems, specialist bathing products and other healthcare solutions within our portfolio. Depending on customer requirements, sessions can focus on product operation, best practice, risk reduction, maintenance awareness and regulatory considerations.
“The ultimate objective is to ensure

MAIN CHALLENGES FACING THE SECTOR AT THE MOMENT? HAS THE GLOBAL SHIPPING CRISIS AFFECTED THE WAY PRISM HEALTHCARE DOES BUSINESS?
“The healthcare and mobility sector continues to face several significant challenges. Demand for services is increasing due to demographic trends, while providers are often operating within constrained budgets and facing ongoing workforce pressures.
"There is also growing pressure to deliver solutions more quickly, particularly within community care settings, while maintaining high standards of quality and service. Balancing cost, availability and innovation remains a challenge across the industry, but one we embrace.
“Like many organisations, we have experienced and continue to experience the impact of global supply chain disruption in recent years. These events have highlighted the importance of resilience, supplier diversification and effective inventory management.

“As a business, we have worked hard to strengthen our supply chain strategy, improve forecasting and build closer relationships with manufacturing and logistics partners. While global challenges continue to emerge, we are in a strong, prepared position to support customers with reliable product availability and service continuity.”

“We are always interested in speaking with retailers that share our commitment to delivering high-quality, effective solutions”
“We are very optimistic about the remainder of 2026. Our focus will continue to be on providing leading solutions, strong customer support, and sustainable growth. We have a number of exciting product developments in the pipeline, and we will continue investing in areas where we believe we can make a meaningful difference to the lives of service users and caregivers.
“We are also looking forward to engaging with customers and industry partners at key events throughout the year, where we will have the opportunity to showcase new solutions and discuss the evolving needs of the sector.
"For those planning to attend the OT Show in November, we will once again be there to showcase our group offering, listen to feedback, impart our knowledge, and positively engage with new and existing customers.
“Importantly, we remain committed to building on the momentum created through recent business developments and acquisitions. By combining expertise, investing in our people and listening closely to our customers, we believe Prism Healthcare is well positioned for the future, and we are committed to supporting our customers to share in that success.”

PMS and PMCF are part of the Technical File requirements around the MDR medical CE marking of a product.
So, what are they and what can they tell us?
In this month’s article, PMS and PMCF are summarised and why they are needed for CE-marked medical devices, and a case study is provided as an example of what they can tell the manufacturer.
What are PMS and PMCF? A
Post-Market Surveillance (PMS) Plan is a mandatory regulatory document for medical device manufacturers1.
It outlines the systematic methods used to collect real-world safety, performance, and feedback data throughout a device’s life cycle, ensuring timely preventive and corrective actions (CAPA).
A robust PMS Plan must be proportionate to the risk level of a device and include the following core components:
Objectives: Specific safety and performance goals.
Data Collection: Methods for gathering proactive and reactive feedback (e.g., complaint logs, user surveys, clinical literature, registries, and competitor device data).
Data Analysis: Defined procedures and statistical methods used to evaluate the collected information.
Vigilance Procedures: Clear pathways for fulfilling reporting obligations to regulatory authorities (such as the MHRA in the UK).
CAPA Links: How findings will trigger preventive and corrective actions in the risk management process.
Reporting: A commitment to creating either a Periodic Safety Update Report (PSUR) or a PMS Report at specified intervals.

A Post-Market Clinical Follow-up Plan (PMCF), on the other hand, is a technical document that outlines how the product manufacturer will carry out monitoring activities to guarantee a medical device's performance and safety throughout its lifecycle. (The requirement to conduct PMCF is mandated in Article 61 and Part A of Annex XIV of the MDR2 .) PMCF is always required for all classes of medical devices, even self-certified Class 1 devices.
PMS covers the entire post-market safety and performance monitoring ecosystem—including non-clinical data, such as complaints, service reports, and vigilance. PMCF is exclusively clinical, counting only data that demonstrates real-world clinical safety and performance1,2 .
The Breezi range (Figure 1) carries the DNA of the chair designed in 1972
"The original Tripp Trapp, designed in 1972 by Peter Opsvik for his son, Tor – a chair that grows with the childreimagined"
by Peter Opsvik for his son, Tor, the original Tripp Trapp – a chair that grows with the child – but was reimagined to meet the needs of children with physical and behavioural challenges. The Breezi’s extended footprint reduces the risk of tipping, while a wide range of accessories offer additional postural support and adaptability.
The range was originally broadened into three sizes, and now a fourth size, to suit different markets, which makes the Breezi the only height-adjustable

activity chair with true Tripp Trapp heritage. The smallest size can also be configured either as a seat or a floorsitter (Figure 2).
The Breezi range is registered as a medical device, and therefore the manufacturer has been carrying out the required post-market surveillance.
The PMS/PMCF survey form has a total of 20 questions split over four sections covering respectively general information, use of the chair, device performance, and device safety.
In the 'General Information' section the respondents were asked what environments their Breezi Chair had been used in, and from this it could be seen that the chair was used in both home and educational settings.
Ninety-five per cent of the respondents said the chair was used at home, 71 per cent in a school setting, and 52 per cent in a nursey setting (this overlap in percentages show the mixed use by the same clients).
The respondents represented a range of clinical and other roles, and in the main they had been involved with the issuance of multiple chairs. The roles included:
Team Lead Paediatric OT
Paediatric/Children’s OT
Senior Therapy Assistant Therapy Assistant Practitioner Therapy support worker for Children’s OT/Physiotherapy Service
Assistant Loan Store Manager
The majority (71 per cent) had been prescribing Breezis for more than five years: the fact that they continued to prescribe this chair is in itself an indication that the chairs were fulfilling the clinical needs for which they were prescribed.
Most respondents had been prescribing sizes across the whole range.
Supporting or enhancing users’ functional activity was the most prevalent reason reported for using the BES Healthcare Breezi Range, with 95 per cent of the respondents reporting use of the Breezi in this way.
Eighty-one per cent of respondents reported using the Breezi Range to enhance the safety/stability of the user when seated, and 71 per cent of respondents reported using the Breezi Range to assist with users’ postural needs.
Forty-eight per cent of respondents prescribed the chairs because they would accommodate the users’ changing needs over time, and the modularity and adjustability of the range plays a major part in providing this benefit.
Fourteen per cent used the Breezi to assist with users’ behavioural needs –the wrap around padded accessories help to provide a ‘calming’ effect. From the respondents, 90 per cent
prescribed Breezis for mild seating needs, 62 per cent for moderate seating needs, and five per cent for ‘significant’ seating needs.
The Breezi range is CE-marked as medical devices, and therefore it is necessary to provide evidence that it meets the clinical claims. In the PMS/PMCF survey, confirmation is sought as to the clinical uses that the manufacturer made claims to, were in fact the case.
To this end, confirmation was received that the clinical applications across their caseloads were as follows:
Under the ‘Other’ option the respondents came back with further unanticipated options (i.e. beyond those listed) which included:
Other behavioural needs 14%
ASD (specifically)
Scoliosis
Downs syndrome/genetic conditions
Low tone
Hip dysplasia
Temporary lower limb casts

From a therapy perspective, 80 per cent or more of the clinicians use the Breezi to:
Increase the users’ interactions with other people
Enhance the users’ quality of life
Whereas even more (over 90 per cent) used the Breezi to:
Aid/support the users’ posture when seated
Provide the user with a secure, seated environment
Enable, or improve, activities such as eating, learning, play, and communication
Facilitate and enhance inclusion in family activities
Apart from these social and educational benefits, 62 per cent used the Breezi to facilitate positioning and functionality during therapy sessions.
The performance of the Breezi was assessed with respect to the latter therapy-related uses, and received the following ratings in Figure 3. General performance characteristics were also assessed, as shown to the right in Figure 4.
There have been no reported devicerelated adverse events resulting in user harm or injury during the three years covered by the PMS review, nor, for that matter, in the 40 years of the Breezi being on the market.

Obtaining PMS and PMCF information from customers is not always easy since therapists and other healthcare professionals are busy and have tight deadlines to meet. However, the outcomes are of great value to them, to know whether or not they are prescribing appropriate equipment.
The feedback is also of value to the manufacturer to know where they are, and where they are not, providing products with clinical benefits, and meeting their clients’ needs. There can be some added benefits – in this case study, the additional clinical diagnoses over and above those anticipated by the manufacturer is of value to share with other potential customers.

Terence Clark, Director at RMA, explains why the Roma EP50+ is helping dealers bridge the gap.

Terence Clark is an RMA Director and has over 25 years’ experience in the mobility industry.
Why are some retailers hesitant to move into higher spec powerchairs?
Terence Clark: For some dealers it’s unfamiliar territory. They know standard products well. But when it comes to higher spec powerchairs, there can be concerns around complexity, prescribing requirements and financial risk.
So, is there a gap in the market?
Terence Clark: Yes, absolutely. There are a large number of customers that may want or need more than a standard product but don’t require a complex mobility solution.

Where does the Roma EP50+ fit?
Terence Clark: The Roma EP50+ sits in that middle ground. It o ers specification and functionality beyond standard powerchairs, but without the complexity and cost of bespoke rehabilitation chairs. It includes features such as electric tilt in space, recline, elevating leg rests, head support, plus width adjustment as standard.

What does that mean for retailers?

Terence Clark: For retailers, it means an opportunity to support a wider range of customers with confidence, o ering more without stepping into the world of bespoke solutions. For specialist providers, it’s a practical, lowerrisk option for clients who don’t require a fully customised chair but still need more than a standard model can deliver.
Any final thoughts?

Terence Clark: The opportunity for retailers isn’t just at either end of the spectrum, it’s in the space between.
