Being involved at Thiel with all sorts of activities made me grow up a lot. For example being a resident assistant (RA) is a great responsibility and made me improve my people skills.

While I’m getting a mental workout in the classroom, I can work on my physical abilities on the football field where I also found friends for life.

without a well-defined choice of major. At Thiel, major and career exploration begin after you’re admitted to the College, before classes begin. Entering students complete a simple online survey to determine their skills, values and interests. GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTATION

Thiel College is authorized by the U.S. government to issue Form I-20 for student use in securing the F-1 visa. All students with a non-immigrant student F-1 visa are required to enroll full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) for duration of program of study.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

The completion of the medical history form and a physical examination with current immunization records are required prior to arrival on campus and registration for classes.

Lifetime INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS PROGRAMS & ACTIVITIES Many programs are offered at Thiel that provide support specifically to international students.

The Conversation Leader Program and the Host Family Program are two support programs that you will want to consider taking part in while at Thiel.

Conversation Leader Program (CLP) CLP matches international students with Thiel students to help practice and learn English, build friendships and share cultures. Weekly one-onone meetings and monthly group activities are scheduled. Some common activities that students take part in with their leaders include: • Attending campus events • Eating meals together • Shopping at the Outlets Mall • Cooking meals together

Host Family Program Families from the Greenville, Pa. and surrounding areas who enjoy learning about new cultures and traditions and want to provide additional support to international students comprise our program.

This rewarding program offers international students a chance to learn about American culture and traditions while creating friendships with host families. Also, by participating in the program students experience a sense of home.

A COMPREHENSIVE INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATION is designed to help students adjust to living in the United States and as part of the Thiel community. During this three day orientation all new international and exchange students register for courses, take an English placement test, meet faculty members, staff and students, go on a campus tour and much more.

INTRAMURAL SPORTS including ultimate frisbee, pocket billiards, table tennis, basketball, flag football, kickball and softball are offered to all Thiel College students.

Fun and INTERACTIVE STUDENT ACTIVITIES are offered every Wednesday evening and on weekends.

Students participate in karaoke, group games, dances and more!

Recent TRIPS AND EVENTS include attending a Cleveland Indians baseball game, Cedar Point Amusement Park, on campus concerts featuring FloRida, Sean Kingston and Mac Miller; and bus trips to Chicago, New York City and Washington, D.C.

Choose from more than 50 STUDENT CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS in which to become involved. The Thiel World Organization (T.W.O.) hosts CULTURAL CELEBRATIONS AND EVENTS including an International Food Fair and a Culture Show where students can share their heritage and traditions with the campus and community. The Thiel Choir, marching band, fraternities and sororities are just a sample of the many organizations on campus.

A weekly SHOPPING SHUTTLE, the “Tomcat Taxi,” takes students to local malls, favorite restaurants and even to the movie theater.

The Deitrich Honors Institute is designed to help train and empower leaders for the world, using a variety of opportunities to hone wisdom and purpose. The students learn and grow together through classes in a specialized core and such bonuses as trips to Chicago, New York City, and even Italy.

Get the Full college Experience DIETRICH HONORS INSTITUTE (DHI) DHI MISSION The Dietrich Honors Institute endeavors to help students become full human beings whose breadth of knowledge, strength of character and thoughtfulness of action make them natural leaders in the world. The DHI curriculum is designed to inform through the acquisition of knowledge, to form through the building of character and to transform through engagement in service to the larger world.

CO-CURRICULAR OPPORTUNITIES Dietrich Scholars can enrich their honors experience in a variety of ways, including: • Contribute to The Harlequin, the DHI e-magazine • Assist with the annual publication of a book featuring honors papers • Enjoy field trips such as kayaking on local waters or exploring metropolitan areas such as New York or Chicago • Serve on the DHI Council or the DHI Student Advisory Board • Experience different cultures through study abroad • Participate in annual service projects • Serve as an ambassador representing the DHI and the College

SERVICE PROJECTS DHI students are strongly urged to participate in at least one service project each year. There are many from which to choose. Leadership cannot assume full shape apart from engagement in action.

HONORS AND… The goal is for the DHI Scholar to be well-rounded. That means engaging in life outside of honors. Sports, music, theater, activities and groups of all kinds—are opportunities for growth and education. Students in the DHI are capable of contributing much to the world and are encouraged to become engaged as broadly as they can.

BENFITS All students in the Dietrich Honors Institute can elect to live together in honors housing (Hodge Hall), which facilitates shared inquiry outside of the classroom and helps students grow in their identity as Dietrich Scholars.

DHI participants also receive a $1,000 scholarship each year.

Majoring in media communication, I have been able to learn many valuable skills that will help me in the future—learning the processes behind making TV programs, films and more. Collaborative Learning THE JAMES PEDAS COMMUNICATION CENTER The Pedas Center is designed to help students in all majors develop communication proficiencies for successful careers and it also will revolutionize the communication program at Thiel College.

GROUNDBREAKING TOOK PLACE in 2013 and the building is to be completed in 2014.

After completing my G.C.E/Advanced Level in Kampala, Uganda, I enrolled at Thiel College as a freshman in January 2008 to pursue a degree in Computer Science and Management Information Systems. I learned a lot from my Thiel experience, the small school setting provided me with a great social life and also great relationships with my professors—especially with my adviser.

The most important thing I learned from Thiel College was the ability to think independently and to solve problems in a more rational and efficient way. Another thing I loved about Thiel was the extracurricular activities like basketball, soccer, football and computer programming contests. Those activities made Thiel not only a great academic environment but a great place to form social bonds.

With all this great college experience and the knowledge I acquired from Thiel, I was able to establish a very good career in database and software development after graduation. I now work as an independent software and database developer; I have worked for big corporations like Xerox, California Creative Solutions and am currently working for Harris Bank as their ETL developer.

Thiel put me on the right path to success.
