VP SARA TO GRADUATES: Never let go of your dreams
By Dominic R. Comia & Julliene Trisha O. Casulla
n a momentous graduation ceremony, the Secretary of the Department of Education and Vice President of the Philippines, Honorable Sara Z. Duterte delivered her inspiring speech, filled with wisdom and encouragement to the audience eagerly listened to the words that resonated with hope and motivation. The Honorable guest first greeted the graduates, families, and faculty members by congratulating them on hosting its 8th Annual Graduation Ceremony held at Allen National High School and the graduands' first step on their new chapter of their lives. Vice President Sara "Inday" Duterte shared that she didn't attend her own graduation ceremonies except when it was her high school graduation because her teacher told her that she can't move to college if she didn't attend the graduation ceremony. The reason was that graduation ceremony take so long that she had to wait to be called after 399 of 400 students. But she now regrets her decision in the past and realizes that graduation ceremonies are not only for the graduates but also for the parents and teachers who have supported and educated them She also encourages the graduates to attend such ceremonies as it is meaningful to their love ones and giving a sense of fulfillment.
She had a childhood dream and envisioned of becoming a pediatrician when she was 4-6 years old. She pursued this dream in medical school but faced many challenges and found it difficult. Feeling the pressure to have a diploma that everyone expected her to have, she felt she couldn't return to her
province of Davao without it. She then gave a lesson that she learned in life
She expressed, "Sometimes, instead of aspiring for the impossible, we should follow paths that lead us to a place where we can reach our full potential. It is in this place that we become excellent individuals, capable of serving others, our communities, and our nation with excellence. Politics was not the garden I cultivated while growing up. I never dreamt of becoming the Vice President of the Philippines. Instead, I dreamed of becoming a doctor. However, God had a different plan for me. God's plan is something we cannot change or fortify; it will simply unfold.
Nevertheless, we should never diminish the value of dreams, no matter how late in life we may find ourselves in situations that break our hearts and spirits
She also told the graduates that while they are young, aim for the brightest stars and never give up. "Even if it seems impossible to reach, seek opportunities that align with your values and allow you to contribute to something greater than yourself. Never let go of your dreams..", she said.
Nearing her closing remarks, the DepEd Secretary and Vice President of the Philippines, Sara Z. Duterte, surprised the graduates and the teachers by giving each one of them a one thousand peso as a gift by achieving this milestone and for fulfilling all the requirements in their academic year.
