Rev. Don Meador, Karen Ross, Kay Meador & Col. Jerry Ross
We were honored to have Colonel Jerry Ross as our speaker at the August 2 Prime Timers luncheon in Wesley Hall. Col. Ross, a retired U.S. Air Force Officer and NASA Astronaut, spoke about his childhood goal to become an astronaut, his impressive career, his experiences in space, and his faith. Afterward, he answered questions from the crowd. Karen Ross, accompanied her husband, and is also retired from NASA where she worked for 22 years in food preparation for the astronauts. Don and Kay Meador have known the Rosses since their days serving at Friendswood UMC.
Have you read anything from the book of Proverbs lately? If not, I suggest you open your Bible and give it a try. You will find much wisdom and just plain, good counsel. For example: Proverbs 17:22, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” And another: Proverbs 15:15, “All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast.” We’re reminded in these nuggets of wisdom that a cheerful, joyful spirit is good for us. It is good medicine. A cheerful heart is a result of being at peace with God. It means we’ve taken care of the biggest concern of all, the state of our soul. We’ve received the peace that comes when we surrender our lives to Jesus Christ and live within his saving grace. And when this happens we’re ready for whatever comes in this world and in the next. So, may the peace of God, which passes all understanding, be in your heart and abide in your life. And, may your cheerful heart be like good medicine. May it be like a time capsule, releasing spurts of gladness as needed, day and night, as long as you live. That is really good medicine. And you can get it without a prescription.
