THE MISSION OF OUR CHURCH NEVER STOPS

A MESSAGE FROM

LEE BREWER

PASTOR TO SENIOR ADULTS

Written by: John Hull

There is beauty in the way God works in and through us. Our church has always followed the Great Commission to lead people to Jesus Christ and to help those in need. In the 24 years that I have been serving as your Missions Pastor, I have seen so many situations that would stop many churches in their tracks when it came to outreach and being a blessing to those around us and to those around the world who need to know Jesus Christ. Our Missions Ministry is so strong and so effective. We have established great Christian ministry partners right here in Montgomery County and in countries all over the world. Through them, we have seen hundreds of thousands come to know Christ, we have helped orphans all over the world and foster kids right here in our community. We have served the homeless, and we have educated pastors and Christian leaders in over 87 countries. It’s amazing! Our Missions Ministry is so strong and adaptable that no matter what curve balls are thrown at us, we have been able to adapt and proclaim Christ in creative and effective ways. • We have endured natural disasters like floods and hurricanes, and each time, it has brought out the best in our congregation. We have been a witness of Christ to everyone in our community, county and state. • We have seen persecution and politics seek to destroy Christianity in countries where we serve, and we continue to get the Gospel message out through Christian radio, Christian television programing, and through the churches and ministries we support in those countries. • And most recently, we have experienced the impact of Covid throughout the world. Everything shut down and our ministry partners here and abroad have suffered greatly. Through our Missions Ministry, we have been able to support and help these faithful ministries survive through our financial gifts, and we continually support them through our ongoing communication, encouragement and prayers. There is no question that Missions truly is the “Heart of our Church”! You are making a lasting difference in lives through your continued support of our Missions Ministry and through your prayers for all those we serve and for our ministry partners. Thank you and celebrate all that is happening through our great church!

August was the last month of freedom when I was a kid. The first two months of summer vacation had disappeared, and school was on the horizon. It was a time of hot days, chasing lightning bugs at night, and the delicious wonder of watermelon when we could get it. Life was in the in-between stage where you grabbed everything you could to enjoy the day. As Christians we are people who are always living in the “in-between” place in life. We are already saved by the blood of Christ and our confession of him as our Lord and Savior, but we are not yet complete. The new heaven and new earth, the glory of heaven and the re-creation of the world as it was meant to be, have not yet occurred. We have a foretaste of glory divine, as the old hymn puts it, but we are longing for the day when there are no more tears, pain or death and the old order of things has passed away. That does not mean, however, that THIS day should not be treasured and used well. “This is the day the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it!” We need to return to some of the child-like desire to take advantage of every moment of the month of August to appreciate the gift of each day and the opportunities it brings. Praise the Lord from whom all blessings flow by how we choose to look for the good in every day and use it well. Even when it’s Houston hot, there are blessings! Lee
