PERSPECTIVES SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS

The group meets each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. in Wesley Hall.

We are now in the beautiful season of autumn. As senior adults, many of us are also in the autumn of life, a time of nostalgia, blessings, and potential. It is a season of life that yields the harvest of seeds we’ve sown throughout life and braces us for colder days to come. When life’s autumn arrives, we look back and are able to understand the way God has led us; but we know we still have work to do and much to anticipate. It is a wonderful time of transition and possibility and hope. In the book of Jude, Chapter 1, verse 12, false teachers are compared to “autumn trees without fruit,” implying that autumn should be a fruitful season, the most abundant of the year. During this autumn of our lives, when we can be concerned about so many changes in our world, we should focus on our God who is the same yesterday, today and forever. Remember this verse from the hymn “Abide with Me”? “Change and decay all around I see; O Thou who changes not, abide with me.” The autumn of life is a great time to focus on God’s wonderful blessings like family, friends, strength, shelter, provision, guidance, care, fruitful ministry, opportunities to serve, more time to study and pray, and eternal life still to come. During the autumn of life we can have a richer perspective and can count more blessings than ever before. Autumn is a good time to focus on our commitment to God and strengthen our relationship to our Creator. Some of the saddest words in the Bible are in Jeremiah 8:20, “The harvest is past, the summer is ended, and we are not saved.” As followers of Christ, we should strive to remain close to Him during the shifting seasons of life. During autumn, we know that winter lies ahead. But we also know that when winter comes, spring cannot be far behind. May God bless you during this beautiful season. Your friend,
