Join me for a moment in reflecting on two recent events in our Senior Adult Ministry that were very special. The first took place on Saturday, April 7 when 34 couples who have been married fifty years or more renewed their marriage vows. It was a beautiful ceremony in the sanctuary followed by a joyful reception in Wesley Hall planned and conducted

by Rebelbase, our student ministry.

This happy, inspirational experience illustrates that young people can relate to older people in a wonderful, meaningful way and we need more of these opportunities. Thanks to our students for providing such a great event for our Senior Adults!

Another special event took place on Sunday, April 24. To my great surprise, my family and some of our leaders in Senior Adult Ministry planned and conducted a wonderful celebration of my fifty years as an ordained minister.

For three hours that afternoon I had the joy of seeing friends from most of the places I have served over the past fifty years and friends from this great congregation that I am now privileged to serve. It was an unforgettable afternoon and I want to express my deep gratitude to all who gave of their time (and their cookies) to make it so special. And thanks to all who came.

Nothing can compare with the blessings received in Christian ministry. It has been, and continues to be, a gift of God’s grace.

SHINING STARS

Park Manor of the Woodlands held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Saturday, April 16. The theme was “Volunteers, Our Shining Stars.” A dedicated group from the Friendship Class was honored for the monthly service they hold for residents.

UPCOMING EVENTS SMALL GROUPS

PRIME TIMERS LUNCHEON Wednesday, June 1 Join us at 11:15 a.m. for our monthly luncheon in Wesley Hall.

Our program will be a tribute by Dr. Mark Lewis to our members who are aged ninety and above. Members of The Woodlands Methodist School Choir will perform. Reservations are due by noon on Monday, May 30, to Helen Burgdorf at 281.397.3726.

The cost is $7 per person and checks are preferred, payable to TWUMC. Note: If you are ninety or older you should have received an invitation to be our guest at this luncheon. Please RSVP with the number in your party no later than Thursday, May 26 if you plan to join us.

THE GATHERING PLACE Monday, June 6 The Gathering Place is an outreach program for adults who have early to moderate Alzheimer’s or dementia. Volunteers arrive at Aldersgate Hall at 8:45 a.m. and our guests arrive at 10:00 a.m. For more information, contact Connie Norton at 281.292.3875. The theme will be “Family Legacies.”

Volunteers are asked to bring framed family pictures: old photos or more recent ones of family gatherings, groupings etc. Be prepared to share a funny family story or a story about a wedding. Come a little early for an “in-service” on safely helping our Care Partners move from one place to another, out of a wheelchair, into a chair, etc.

GOLDENAIRES CHOIR The Goldenaires are currently off for the summer but Tuesday afternoon rehearsals will resume in September.

This is a group of folks who like singing together and providing music for various functions such as Prime Timers, funerals and visits to senior facilities. There is no need to audition. For more information, or to get involved, contact Ed Wandling at 281.355.0053.

MEN’S BOOK STUDY Join us for a men’s book study, which meets on Wednesday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m., in the Infant Care Room at the church. We are studying the book Quiet Strength

SENIOR ADULT GAME NIGHT Friday, June 10 Join us from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. in Aldersgate Hall for a night of fun, fellowship, games and light refreshments. SENIOR EXERCISE Join us to exercise Tuesdays and Fridays 8:30 – 9:20 a.m. in Aldersgate Hall. This is a muscle toning workout featuring strength training and some stretching using hand weights, tubes and chairs. Lite body sculpting is an unintimidating, less strenuous class with modifications for any fitness level.

Segments include warm-up, strength, stretching and cooldown. There is no charge. Please wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes. For more information please contact Jackie Martini at 281.451.3844.

SHEPHERD CARE Shepherd Care is our ministry of friendship for our members who are in local nursing homes, senior adult residences and private residences. New shepherds and new lambs are always welcome. For more information, contact Karen Freeman at 858.204.0011.

COMPUTER SUPPORT MINISTRY The Computer Support Ministry has helped almost 50 members since it was started in 2014 by Jerry Barney.

A VOW-RENEWAL CEREMONY CELEBRATING OUR COUPLES WHO HAVE BEEN MARRIED FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS

On Saturday, April 9, thirty-four couples who have been married fifty years or more gathered in the main sanctuary at The Woodlands UMC for a vow renewal ceremony. Rev. Rob Renfroe spoke to the couples, their families and friends. Afterward, the couples were showered with bubbles as they walked from the sanctuary into Wesley Hall where a reception was held. The celebration was put on by The Woodlands UMC student ministry under the leadership of Michael Dale.
