A MESSAGE FROM

DON MEADOR PASTOR TO SENIOR ADULTS

Another new year is upon us. 2016 brings two very significant events, which could have a great impact upon our future as a church and as a nation. The General Conference of The United Methodist Church will meet in April in Portland, Oregon. This is the meeting of delegates representing our denomination from all over the world, which meets every four years. They will be considering significant issues and making decisions about the future direction of our church. And we are all aware that 2016 also brings the Presidential election in our nation, which comes every four years. On November 8th we will be faced with making the decision about who to vote for to lead our country in these troubled times.

Despite a stormy day a group of ladies gathered for lunch in Aldersgate Hall on November 17. Organizer, Libby Heintz dedicated the lunch to Lois Ramey, who lead the group for many years, and to Nancy Head, a long-time member who recently passed away. Rev. Don Meador gave the blessing. Though the ladies took the month off from book discussion, they enjoyed visiting with each other. Libby distributed a list of books the group will read during the first six months of 2016. Everyone is invited to attend the next meeting at noon in Aldersgate Hall.

Because these two events could have such historic consequences for our church and our nation, I am convinced we must commit ourselves to prayer. Let us resolve to lift these two events in prayer every day. Let us pray that the Holy Spirit will move mightily among the delegates to General Conference to bring resolutions to conflicts that have divided the church for many years and restore the once great strength of the Methodist movement. And let us pray that the Holy Spirit will lead all Americans in making the right choice of a new leader for our nation on November 8th, 2016 and restore our nation’s strength as “one nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all. “

Let us resolve to be a people of faithful, fervent prayer throughout this New Year. Spend some time each day in prayer lifting these two concerns. Let us pray that God will unite us in spirit and that God’s peace will descend upon us.
