The theme of our June Prime Timers luncheon was “Hawaiian Luau.” As has become our annual June tradition, Dr. Mark Lewis gave a tribute to our members who are aged 90 and above, and 24 of these honored guests attended. A special treat was the involvement of high schoolers from Rebelbase Student Ministry under the leadership of Michael and Caitlin Dale. The students took photos, greeted our guests with leis, helped serve and provided the entertainment. Evin Calicchia played the ukulele and sang four songs including “Jesus Loves Me” and an original song that she wrote. Avery Gordy, Madison Heath, Kevin Lowe, and Jackson Valencia were very entertaining as hula dancers!

Every moment of every day we are thinking. You are thinking something as you read these words. And we are constantly receiving messages about what we should be thinking. The newspaper, TV, radio, family and friends and co-workers constantly give us things to think about. And so much of what we hear pushes us toward negative thoughts. We live in a day of partisan divisions and political infighting, mistrust, suspicion, criticism and even hatred on every level. It is so easy to slide into a pattern of negative thinking. Years ago Dr. Norman Vincent Peale wrote a best seller entitled The Power of Positive Thinking. But he wasn’t the first positive thinker. That honor has to go to the Apostle Paul. As he ends his letter to the Philippians he gives advice, which if followed, has the power to transform our lives. He writes in Chapter 4:8, “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” So let us examine our thoughts. And let us begin to follow the admonition of St. Paul to think of things that are true, noble, right, pure and lovely, and things that are excellent and praiseworthy. It can transform our lives and even cause us to feel better and have a better outlook on life. And, as Paul says, “The peace of God will be with you.” Your friend,
