A MESSAGE TO OUR COMMUNITY Dear Residents of The Woodlands, The Woodlands has long been a community where thoughtful planning, quality amenities and opportunities for recreation contribute to the exceptional quality of life we all value. With that tradition in mind, we want to share an exciting step forward for the South Gosling area and what it could mean for our community. The Woodlands Township Board of Directors recently approved a Ground Lease Agreement with Forest Capital Partners, LP, paving the way for the development of a new short course golf complex and associated amenities. The project will be developed through a public private partnership, with Forest Capital Partners making a minimum capital investment of $12 million to design, construct, operate and maintain the facility. The Township will invest $2.5 million in supporting infrastructure, while retaining ownership of the improvements at the conclusion of the lease. Construction of the initial improvements is expected to be completed within 30 months, with the facility anticipated to open in early 2029. The new public golf complex will provide residents with access to a unique recreational amenity that has long been identified as a community need. Planned amenities include a lighted nine-hole short course, a 200-plus yard driving range, dedicated putting and practice greens, a pitching area, restaurant and bar, pickleball courts and spaces for social games such as cornhole, washers and ladder ball. The concept complements future trails, open space and other recreational opportunities that may be developed on the South Gosling property. The approximately 50-acre development site is part of the larger South Gosling property (208 acres) and is designed to integrate with the future Spring Creek Greenway and surrounding recreational amenities. The South Gosling property is located in the Village of Creekside Park, bordered by South Gosling Road to the west and Spring Creek to the north and east. Like many of the Township’s capital projects, this project reflects the Township Board’s continued commitment to investing in high-quality recreational amenities that enhance life in The Woodlands while being responsible stewards of taxpayer dollars. Previous projects have included expanded parks, new turf fields, pickleball courts, playgrounds and other community amenities that were created or enhanced without raising taxes.

DISCOVER THE JOY OF BIRDING What happens when someone is stuck at home during a pandemic and really needs a new outdoor activity? Some might just sit in their backyard with an app that identifies bird names with the sounds they hear. Then they may turn that into a full-blown obsession with photography of birds. The Woodlands Township Park Supervisor Michael Pilkenton is one of these people. With a childhood spent hiking, camping, hunting and fishing, photography became a great way for Michael to share his knowledge and appreciation of the great outdoors. This included a love of wildlife and a desire to see and photograph as much of it as possible. And, as someone very familiar with wildlife in The Woodlands, Michael’s advice to those seeking the best places for birdwatching here is along the Waterway in winter (or anytime), as the pelicans, cormorants and gulls come through, along with the wading shore birds. His second favorite local spot is his backyard for hummingbirds, wrens and cardinals.

As Park Supervisor, some of Michael’s duties include overseeing daily operations, maintenance, safety and program delivery for parks, pools, pathways and recreation facilities. He serves as both an operational leader and a community resource, working with residents, advisory groups and partners to identify needs, improve services and promote park programs. His photography is a hobby that he is proud of and that Township staff and residents have admired. Take a look for inspiration and then try your own phone or camera to capture the perfect angle of the beautiful nature and wildlife that surrounds us in The Woodlands.

YOU, TOO, CAN BE A BIRDER! The Lookout Bird Blind Located within the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, The Lookout Bird Blind offers visitors a quiet space to observe birds and wildlife in their natural habitat while minimizing disturbance. Visitors should plan to park at the Spring Creek Nature Trail parking area at the end of Dr. Ann Snyder Drive and walk to the facility, as there is no parking adjacent to the bird blind. Birding Backpack Program Birdwatching is a great way to connect with nature, observe local wildlife, and explore the beautiful outdoor spaces in The Woodlands. The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department offers free daypacks to residents, making it easy for everyone to enjoy the fun and rewarding experience of birding. These daypacks provide everything you need to get started, encouraging residents of all ages to discover the joy of birding.

5TH ANNUAL PUMPKIN SMASH SMASH IT, DON’T TRASH IT! Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sterling Ridge Park and Ride Give your jack-o’-lantern one last chance to make a difference at The Woodlands Township’s 5th Annual Pumpkin Smash. Join The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Department on Sunday, November 1, 2026, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sterling Ridge Park and Ride, 8001 McBeth Way, The Woodlands, Texas 77382, for an afternoon of family-friendly fun that turns Halloween waste into a new resource for gardens. More than one billion pounds of pumpkins are discarded in the United States each year. Instead of sending your Halloween pumpkin to the landfill, bring it to Pumpkin Smash and help start the composting process. Once smashed, the pumpkin pieces will then be transported to a commercial composting facility and transformed into nutrient-rich compost. To shorten wait times for all participants, please remove all non-compostable decorations, including candles, stickers, yarn, googly eyes and plastic accessories prior to the event.

What to Bring • Pumpkins of any size or quantity, carved or whole, including pumpkins painted with acrylic paint. Pumpkins and Halloween gourds only please – no other food items will be accepted. • Safety goggles and gloves (we have a limited supply to share) • Close-toed shoes

Choose Your Smash! Grab a bat and smash your pumpkin or watch it splatter from our 80-foot drop. It’s a memorable way to celebrate the end of Halloween while helping reduce food waste. Township staff will be on hand to ensure everyone has an enjoyable experience. Interested in composting at home? Local composting experts will be available at the event to answer questions, share tips and provide information about free upcoming composting classes. For more information, contact The Woodlands Township Environmental Services at enviro@thewoodlandstownship-tx. gov or scan the QR code to visit the event page.

25 YEARS LATER: A COMMUNITY UNITED IN REMEMBRANCE Patriot Day of Remembrance Friday, September 11 | 7:30 to 8 a.m. The Woodlands Central Fire Station 9951 Grogan’s Mill Road Some moments in history forever change the hearts of a nation. Twentyfive years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, The Woodlands Township continues a tradition of honoring the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call and the resilience that emerged from one of America’s darkest days. This annual ceremony offers a meaningful opportunity to pause together, reflect and ensure that the stories of courage and sacrifice are never forgotten. For many, the memories of that day remain vivid. For younger generations it is history learned through the stories of those who lived it. Events like Patriot Day of Remembrance help bridge those generations, reminding us that freedom is never free and that ordinary people are capable of extraordinary acts of selflessness. The ceremony will feature the Presentation of Colors by The Woodlands Fire Department Honor Guard, the reading of the Fireman’s Prayer and the Ringing of the Bell in honor of fallen firefighters. As bells echo through the morning air, they serve as a powerful reminder that while 25 years have passed, our gratitude has never faded. Whether you remember where you were that morning or are attending for the first time, all are welcome to join neighbors, first responders and community leaders as The Woodlands stands together in remembrance, gratitude and hope.

The event welcomed leaders in tourism, hospitality and association industries for professional development, networking and a signature reception hosted by Visit The Woodlands. Booth sales are underway to vendors interested in participating in the fall festival. Booth sales are limited to availability with sales closing October 9. We will be handing out reusable heavy duty shopping bags to collect all the prizes at the event. Advertising space on the bags sold quickly last year. We are offering more advertising space options on this year’s bag. If you are interested in having your business name and logo on the bag to advertise for years to come, please contact us early in September. Please visit cochranscrossing.org for more information and to submit an application for booth or bag space or contact us at eventsforccva@gmail.com. Parking for the festival is at the church and elementary school parking lots next to the park on Shadowbend Place. CREEKSIDE PARK

Submitted by Amanda Courville

The old saying, “It takes a village,” still holds true in our modern world. The Creekside Park Village Association board wants to encourage residents to be part of our village and join us at our monthly meetings. They are held at the Rob Fleming Rec Center the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. except when otherwise noted on the website. These meetings are a great chance to find out what is happening both in our village and in the Township as a whole. You will hear from representatives of both organizations as well as from law enforcement and other community partners. You’ll also find out about important events throughout The Woodlands and in Creekside Park, in particular. Because there is always a portion of the meeting open for resident discussion, it is a chance for you to ask questions and share comments about the issues that affect you and your neighbors as residents. Our September meeting is Tuesday, September 8, and our October meeting will be Tuesday, October 6, both at 7 p.m. at The Recreation Center at Rob Fleming Park, 6464 Creekside Forest Drive, The Woodlands, TX, 77389. We’ll save you a seat! For more information, check out our website creeksideparkvillage.com or the Creekside Park Village Association Facebook page.

GROGAN'S MILL

Submitted by Jennifer Robinson

Shopping at The Woodlands Farmers Market (TWFM) is a great way to support local businesses and your community. Proceeds from the market fund scholarships for local students, support local schools and support the local food bank. The market is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon through September but resumes regular hours of 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in October. Come on out and join your neighbors at the market! It is a great place to sample local products and find unique gifts for the special people in your life.

CAN I HAVE A GARAGE SALE? No. Garage, yard and estate sales are strictly prohibited in The Woodlands for several reasons. Safety and security concerns are a factor, as public sales can attract unwanted crowds and traffic to residential areas. Additionally, street parking related to such sales can create hazards and obstruct emergency vehicles. However, some provisions have been made in The Woodlands Standards to allow for virtual sales and other online platforms, provided they adhere to the following requirements: • Advertisement of the address in any public medium is strictly prohibited. • Sales and collection of items must be by appointment only and restricted to one buyer at a time. Vendors are listed every Friday in the weekly TWFM enewsletter so you can plan your Saturday shopping. If you are not a subscriber, you can sign up on the Grogan’s Mill Village Association website gmva.org. If you have nominations for the Yard of the Month, please send them in to yotm@gmva.org. We would love to hear about beautiful yards in our community.

We wish Kaden and Monroe the very best as they begin this exciting new chapter and look forward to seeing all they accomplish. Thank you to everyone who joined us for our annual Flag Day celebration at Ridgewood Park. It was wonderful to see so many families, friends and neighbors come together to enjoy an afternoon of great food, fun and community fellowship. STERLING RIDGE

Submitted by Mike Wolff

As school resumes and we head into the fall season, it’s time to start thinking about the annual Sterling Ridge Golf Classic, scheduled for Tuesday, October 20. This longstanding community event supports our local schools

and students. Proceeds help fund scholarships for graduating seniors pursuing higher education at colleges, universities and trade schools, while also providing schools with muchneeded resources such as classroom supplies and technology. Stay tuned to our social media channels and website for updates. With students back in school and increased use of e-scooters and e-bikes throughout the community, we encourage parents to review the Respect the Path safety video with their children. The video is available at thewoodlandsparks.com/parks/ pathways. We also encourage all pathway users to follow posted rules and practice safe, courteous behavior to help prevent accidents. Be sure to mark your calendars for two additional community events this fall. The annual Boots vs. Badges Softball Game is scheduled for September 27, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Alden Bridge Sports Park. National Night Out events will take place on October 4 from 3 to 6 p.m. in local neighborhoods. These events provide great opportunities to connect with neighbors and show support for our first responders. Visit our website sterling-ridge.org for more community events and news. You can also keep up with what’s happening on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn. Residents are welcome to join us at our monthly meetings on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m. at the REMAX office located at 6620 Woodlands Parkway. It’s a great way to learn more about what’s happening in the community and participate in village events.
