The Woodlands is one of the best places to live in America, as confirmed by residents and third-party organizations like Niche.com. But commuting to the office when it’s located elsewhere can be a stressful and timeconsuming experience. This doesn’t have to be the case when you have solutions like The Woodlands Express and tools like the commuting calculator provided by the Houston-Galveston Area Council (HGAC). Using these resources, your daily journey can be easier to navigate.

The Woodlands Express is a commuter bus service that connects The Woodlands with various destinations in Greater Houston, including downtown Houston, the Texas Medical Center and the Energy Corridor. Riders of The Woodlands Express enjoy a comfortable and stress-free commute. Buses are equipped with amenities such as Wi-Fi, comfortable seating and ample legroom, allowing you to relax or be productive during your journey.

The commuter service operates on regular schedules, from three convenient

Park and Ride locations within the boundaries of The Woodlands, providing you with a dependable transportation option. To help you visualize the positive aspects of using The Woodlands Express, please take a look at HGAC’s Commuting Calculator at www. yourcommutesolution.org/makeyour-commute-count. Meetings are scheduled at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Stop on by if you get a chance, especially if you have questions about your Alden Bridge neighborhood.

Check out our Alden Bridge resident, Marsha Mixon of Silkbay Place, our July’s Yard of the Month winner! What a great job highlighting the neighborhood. Congratulations!

Before you know it, it will be time to look for Alden Bridge’s best holiday decorations, as part of our annual Holiday Lighting Contest.

Mark your calendars for November 4, 2023, 1 to 4 p.m. You will not want to miss the annual Alden Bridge Fall Festival! We are planning an even bigger adventure for young and old alike this year, with lots more to see and do. We’re planning food, games, a DJ and many other fun activities. The kids will love it even more this year, so we want to see everyone out with their families to enjoy a great time at Lakeside Park. More to come on the festival in next month’s issue.

Do you receive our monthly email newsletter? If you aren’t on the distribution list, please send your email address to abvainfo@gmail.com so you can be in the know along with close to 1,000 neighbors with our latest news. We won’t share your email address; it will be used only to distribute news of Alden Bridge. You can also find us on Facebook (Alden Bridge Village Association) and at our website, www.aldenbridge.org. September is usually one of our hottest months,

so we hope you are staying cool. Have a safe and happy Labor Day weekend, Alden Bridge!

There are few experiences more rewarding than creating a work of art with paint and canvas. The resulting image consists of layer upon layer of unique intricacy formed from each varied brush stroke. A painting exhibits individuality on a microscopic level that can only be matched by that of nature. The natural environment around Lake Woodlands makes the perfect subject for a beautiful painting.

This autumn, Riva Row Boat House has expanded offerings of our popular Painting on the Lake program. Artists, young, mature, experienced and novice are invited to join us for an early morning paddle to a serene vista on Lake Woodlands. Our guests will drop anchor for a watercolor painting session using canvas boards, paints and brushes provided by boat house staff. The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services invites everyone to join with their neighbors and public safety personnel on Sunday, October 8, 2023, for an afternoon out against crime. National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer. National Night Out creates a sense of community by bringing residents and the public safety agencies that serve The Woodlands Township together under positive circumstances.

Participating in National Night Out since 1990, The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services, public safety agencies and the community have won numerous awards for the way we unite and celebrate our police-community partnerships. On Sunday, October 8, 2023, from 3 to 6 p.m., residents are asked to lock their doors and gather with their neighbors. When your neighborhood participates in National Night Out it accomplishes one of the first steps in crime prevention: neighbor knowing neighbor.

GIVE CRIME AND DRUGS A GOING-AWAY PARTY

Hosting a National Night Out

party is just the way to bring your neighbors together!

Take this opportunity to send a message that your neighborhood is united against crime. How you celebrate is up to you. It can be as simple providing Popsicles, or as elaborate as playing games and hosting a barbecue. All you need to do is gather your neighbors and participate! Local law enforcement and The Woodlands Fire Department will briefly visit with many of the neighborhoods that register their parties with The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Watch.

Step #1: Party registration is easy!

In 2022, more than 100 public safety personnel visited parties throughout The Woodlands. To join in on the fun and receive a public safety visit, your neighborhood must complete the registration form. To register, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ nationalnightout and scroll down to the registration form.

Even if you want to keep it simple and don’t need supplies or a visit from

the various public safety agencies, we encourage you to still register your party. It’s important for us to know how many neighborhoods participate in this community-building event. Register your neighborhood party by September 1, 2023, to be eligible for a prize! Once you’ve completed the party registration form, a program specialist with Township Neighborhood Services will contact you to make sure we have all the details needed. The final day to register and to receive a public safety visit is Friday, September 22, 2023.

Step #2: Party Packet Pickup Day

Please pick up your packets Thursday, September 21, 2023, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at The Woodlands Township, 2801 Technology Forest Boulevard – West Entrance. The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services can provide you with National Night Out party supplies. Pre-registration is helpful and assists us in determining your needs, so your supplies are ready on Packet Pickup Day. Available supplies may include balloons, giveaways, yard signs, party ideas and more!

Have You Tried Pickleball Yet?

Did you know that pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in America?

It had more than 8.9 million players documented in 2022.

Authorized by The Woodlands Township Board of Directors, the Township Parks and Recreation Department recently opened eight new dedicated pickleball courts at Falconwing Park in the Village of Indian Springs. This project is one facet of a $4.23 million renovation at Falconwing Park, which includes a parking lot expansion, LED light conversions on the sports fields and courts and an upcoming pool renovation.

These eight pickleball courts bring the total to 51 pickleball courts in The Woodlands Township. There are 19 tennis courts throughout The Woodlands that include pickleball line overlays, totaling 38 pickleball courts (two pickleball courts per one tennis court). In addition, there are five pickleball-lined courts at the outdoor multi-use sports court location at Bear Branch Park. The new Falconwing dedicated pickleball courts include nets while other locations are shared spaces and require players to bring their nets.

For more information about pickleball in The Woodlands, including how to play, leagues, program registration and more, please visit www.thewoodlandstownship-tx. gov/pickleball.

Watch a video from the grand opening in the online version of this magazine at www.thewoodlandstownship-tx.gov/ magazine.

TIPS FOR SEPTEMBER

LAWN CARE

1. Mow at the Right Height Set blade at highest setting to preserve moisture, promote deep roots, and out-compete weeds.

2. Water Effectively Water deeply and infrequently: no more than 1 to 2 days a week and no more than 1 inch a week.

3. Cycle and Soak Water each station in two or three cycles instead of one long cycle. This allows water to soak in (not run off), deepening and strengthening roots.

4. Sharpen Your Blade Dull mower blades tear grass, leaving it open to disease. Sharpen monthly.

5. Aim Sprinkler Heads Don’t deprive your grass. Adjust sprinklers so water goes where its needed, not on the pavement.

6. Don’t Bag It Leave grass clippings on the lawn to return essential nutrients to the soil.

7. Check Your Controller Battery Make sure your irrigation controller’s backup battery is fresh so a power outage doesn't change your settings and cause under- or overwatering.

8. Use WaterSmart Scan the below QR code to log into the WaterSmart online portal. Track when and how much you're watering, find leaks, and get alerts for high or unusual use.

Protect Your Wheels with the Bicycle Registration Program

Did you know that The Woodlands Township offers a bicycle registration program? Simply scan the QR code above to access the registration program and record the serial number, make, model and any unique characteristics of your bicycle. The department database safely stores this information and issues a numbered sticker to secure to your bicycle. If your

bicycle is lost or stolen, The Woodlands Township can retrieve this information and greatly increase the odds of returning your property to you.

All bicycles have a unique serial number. To find it, look beneath the bottom part of the frame between the pedals. If the number is not there, check the head tube below the handlebars or where the frame meets the back wheel.

Once you have completed your registration, you will receive a numbered sticker and a copy of your registration. Please keep this copy for your records. This information will remain in the database until you notify the Township that the bicycle

has been sold or discarded. Please also take a photo of your bike and include any receipts on file with the registration copy.

If your bicycle is ever stolen, it is important to report it to law enforcement.
