From Anna: A Message from our Head
of School
Dear Friends of Wolf,
As I flip through the pages of this year’s Annual Report, every moment and photo reminds me of our 2024-2025 theme - It Takes A Village. To be honest, I can’t think of The Wolf School without being reminded of it.
The idea for The Wolf School began simply – build a better school for students who learn differently. That was in 1999 and from that day forward, this has been a school built for a village, led by a village, teaching as a village, and raising up children as a village. Though brilliantly simple in concept, nothing at the Wolf School is simple in design or in execution. To make it work, we need every member of our village working together. We need you.
Because when we work together, truly spectacular things happen. This year, we welcomed 14 new graduates into our alumni community, bringing our total graduates to 196 - a far cry from our first classroom with only 3 students.
With you, we made history when we raised over $80,000 during our firstever Discover the Difference Giving Day, allowing us to continue to grow and expand our innovative programming at Wolf.
Because of our village, our average financial aid gift continues to grow ensuring that every child who needs Wolf has the capacity to access it.
Thanks to you, The Wolf School continues to be a place where students are seen as individuals and celebrated for who they are. This might seem small, but I promise you, as more of our students head out into the world with selfconfidence and compassion, they are changing the world for the better.
This work doesn’t happen alone. But together, we are making the world a better place for Complex Learners and helping Complex Learners feel ready to take on the world. It is an honor to work alongside you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

A Look At Our Year
The Wolf Way Cafe
The Room 1 team brought the Immersion Model© to life when they introduced The Wolf Way Cafe in January 2025. Since its opening, this student-run pop-up coffee cart has served delicious coffees and smiles every Wednesday to faculty and staff. Room 1 students took the lead on the whole operation including greeting guests, taking orders, making and delivering drinks, collecting payment, cleaning their work station, taking inventory, and restocking supplies. Along with learning the ins and outs of running a coffee cart, The Wolf Way Cafe has given students an engaging way to further work on executive function skills, math skills, interpersonal skills, and fine motor skills. “These are all skills they’re going to need as they get older,” Room 1 teacher, Lane Sisak, shares, “and with The Wolf Way Cafe they’re practicing them in a ‘job-like’ setting where they are engaged and connected.”
The EyeClick
Thanks to a generous grant from the Doug Flutie Foundation, The Wolf School was thrilled to add an EyeClick, an interactive projector and mobile cart, to our technology offerings. With a variety of games, as students use the Eyeclick interactive projector, they’re doing more than just having fun! Students work on strengthening their social skills and engaging in positive cooperative play as they play with classmates, practice turn-taking, demonstrate good sportsmanship as they play competitive games, and further develop their interpersonal skills as our older students engage in independent play. This technology has the power to engage every type of learner, visual or tactile, on a deeper level when lessons are brought to life in a hands-on, interactive way while also building interpersonal skills, confidence, imagination, and fostering a more inclusive learning environment.
Growing, Connecting, & Thriving
Giving Day
During the day of Discover the Difference, we set out to raise $70,000 over 24 hours during our first ever Giving Day. As we’ve learned time and time again, you should never underestimate the power of community. With your help we raised over $80,000 to fund programming at The Wolf School! With each gift received, new and exciting prizes were unlocked for our students, including everything from a visit from a surprise local food truck (pictured on the left below) and in collaboration with the Sean Reardon “Be Radical” Enrichment Fund, a surprise visit from Gnome Surf for all students (pictured on the right below). But the generosity didn’t stop there. That night at Discover the Difference, our village stepped up once again and raised over $90,000 for critical financial aid. It really does take a village, and we couldn’t do it without you!
25 Years of Anna Johnson
It would be impossible to celebrate the 2024-2025 school year without recognizing a major milestone for one of our very own. Head of School, Anna Johnson, celebrated 25 years at Wolf! From her beginnings as a classroom teacher to her current position leading The Wolf School into future development and growth, Anna has led with kindness, innovation, and a true love for what she does. As Don McCaughey, Board of Trustees Chair, says “Anna’s dedication, vision, and passion for our students and mission have proven invaluable in shaping The Wolf School into the thriving community it is today.” Congratulations, Anna! Here’s to many more years and many more reasons to celebrate!
Wolf in Action: A Look At Our Year
Drums Alive
With a generous grant to bring new programming to Camp Confidence, Wolf was thrilled to have the capacity to purchase training and equipment for Drums Alive®, an evidence-based multisensory fitness program that combines rhythm, movement, and music to enhance physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being. Over Spring Break, 7 Wolf School staff members took part in a training session to be able to bring this exciting and innovative program to Wolf - and the results have been incredible! Along with benefits like improved coordination and strength, Drums Alive® also helps foster emotional expression, social skills, stimulate brain activity, enhance focus, and provide students with a safe and welcoming space to have fun!
With community building events, our Wolf School Parent Organization continues to find new and creative ways to bring together our families across grades and across states! This year, with student input, we introduced a new spring event, the Middle School Mingle. Taking place directly after school and as a student-only event, this gave our Middle School students an opportunity to connect with peers while building social skills and self-confidence. With activities ranging from karaoke to nail-painting, games, and get-to-know you activities, students were able to enjoy time outside of school building connections and having fun. Assistant Head of School, Courtney Dubois, describes it as “an incredible opportunity for our Middle Schoolers to really demonstrate their growth and independence. Students stepped out of their comfort zones and tried new things, made new connections, and shared a lot of laughs!”
Growing, Connecting, & Thriving
Conscious Discipline
Throughout its 27 years, Wolf has continued to integrate new concepts and best practices in the field of special education, committed to ensuring a high-quality experience for their students and families. In an effort to stay focused on the emotional wellbeing of both staff and students, during the 2024-2025 school year, The Wolf School began a school-wide implementation of Conscious Discipline®, a self-regulation program that focuses on the emotional health of both adults and students. Conscious Discipline® seeks to address the issue that school staff cannot be expected to attend to the social-emotional needs of students when they haven’t addressed their own. As the adults in a school community learn how to stay calm and take care of themselves, they’re able to see big emotions or dysregulation as an opportunity to teach. As staff learn to self-regulate, they are more capable of teaching this knowledge to help students learn to do the same. “At Wolf, we understand how important it is for us to nurture the emotional well-being of our students,” said Anna Johnson, Head of School at Wolf. “By integrating social-emotional lessons into the curriculum and throughout the school day, our students are gaining social skills, emotional growth, and regulation strategies that will serve them well beyond their time at Wolf.”
196 Graduate Flags
Since our first graduation in 2005, our yearly graduation ceremony continues to be one of our most beloved events for students, staff, and families. Since our first graduation, we have asked our graduates to take part in the Raising of the Flags tradition. As the students move on from Wolf and take part of us with them, we ask each of them to leave a little part of them behind. Their task is to design a flag that says something about them, and after graduation, their flag joins those of the previous graduates in the Pelson Center. With our 14 new graduates in June 2025, The Wolf School now has 196 alumni graduates and 196 flags on display! What a special way to leave your legacy at Wolf!
After Wolf: Alumni Profile
Sam Malkin, Class of 2011
Before enrolling at The Wolf School, going to school felt like more of an obligation than an opportunity for Sam Malkin (Class of 2011). “It was mostly a blur,” Sam reflects. “It felt like something that was forced upon me by right of age rather than the freedom to explore my interests and personality.” This is a similar experience felt by many Complex Learners prior to finding Wolf. Like many Wolf students, Sam struggled to find success in a traditional classroom setting with staff and an environment not suited to fit his unique learning needs. But then Sam and his family discovered The Wolf School.
Halfway through third grade, Sam joined Wolf and for the first time school became a place of possibility rather than frustration. “I felt confident to explore a pathway for learning that worked for me—and one that I actually enjoyed,” he shares. This newfound confidence and excitement around learning only continued to grow during Sam’s time at Wolf, which he looks backs at fondly. From the universally beloved Pizza Fridays to his all time favorite moment: playing against his brother Jack in a basketball game between the Gordon School and Wolf. “Of course, Wolf won,” he adds. Although his time at Wolf has concluded, Sam knows the memories, and impact of Wolf, will last a lifetime.
But beyond the memories, his years at Wolf laid a foundation that continues to impact him today. During his time at Wolf, Sam developed lifelong habits, a strong work ethic, and a deeper understanding of himself as a learner. “I discovered that learning is not a one-size-fits-all process,” he says. “Great success comes from finding the method that fits you.”
Along with these discoveries, Sam’s time at Wolf allowed him to make significant academic gains, allowing him to move on to high school and then Babson College, where he graduated from in 2021 with a degree in Accounting and Finance. To him, this trajectory would be unimaginable without Wolf and the educators that played a role in his time here. As Sam shares, “It is no secret among those familiar with Wolf that the school’s success is solely due to the dedication, love, and professionalism of the administrators, teachers, OT, SLPs, and all the other specialists.”
Following his graduation from Babson, Sam began his career at EY as an auditor for wealth and asset management companies, eventually transitioning into private real estate investment, starting at a fund in Boston. In addition to his professional career, Sam has also found a way to remain connected to supporting his former school. Since 2022, Sam has served as the first alumni member of The Wolf School’s Board of Trustees—a role he describes as an “extremely special honor.” For him, it’s a meaningful way to give back to the community that helped shape him. “The best part of being on the Board is hearing from other students and parents, both past and present, who share a love for the Wolf community and have seen success in themselves or their children.”
It’s also a surreal experience, as he gets the opportunity to work beside some of the very educators who helped support him during his time at Wolf, like Head of School, Anna Johnson, and Assistant Head of School, Courtney Dubois. “They, along with Rosy Granoff and Lise Faulise, worked with my parents to bring me into the community, and had a significant impact on my success,” he shares.
As a Board Member and Wolf School Fund donor, Sam continues to feel passionately about supporting the future of Wolf however he can. “I want Wolf to continue to achieve its noble goal of helping Complex Learners grow,” he shares. “Both in education and confidence to succeed and to be able to do so in perpetuity.
To current Wolf students, Sam offers this bit of parting advice: “Don’t be afraid to challenge yourself, even with something small like asking a question in class or joining an after-school activity. That mindset will give you a leg up in life.”
