송년회와 회식이 잦아지는 연말! 직장인들은 음주 후 어떤 음식으로 해장할까?

How do Koreans cure hangovers? 콩나물국 (42.1%) Bean Sprout Soup 1.멸치와 다시마로 육수를 우려낸다.

Make a broth with anchovies and kelp.

2.우러난 육수에 콩나물을 넣고 뚜껑을 닫는다.

Add bean sprouts to the boiling liquid and close the lid.

3.콩나물이 끓으면 뚜껑을 열어 다진 마늘을 넣는다.

When it returns to a boil, remove lid and add minced garlic.

4.소금이나 새우젓으로 간하여 완성한다.

Season with salt or salted shrimp.

뼈해장국 (26.4%) Bone Hangover Soup 1.뼈는 찬물에 담궈 핏불을 제거한다.

Soak bone in water to remove blood.

2.끊는 물에 살짝 삶고 찬물에 헹군 후 생강을 넣고 끓인다.

Boil bone slightly in water, rinse in cold water, then boil again with sliced ginger.

3.뼈가 익으면 우거지에 양념해 넣고 좀 더 끓여 완성한다.

When bone is cooked, season cabbage outer leaves, add to soup and simmer to cook leaves.

북어국 (26.3%) Pollack Soup 1.마른 북어포는 찬물에 불려둔다.

Soak dried Pollack in water to rehydrate.

2.불린 북어포와 참기름, 다진 마늘, 썰은 양파를 냄비에 넣고 볶아준다.

Stir fry rehydrated Pollack, sesame oil, minced garlic, and sliced onion together.

3.물을 넣고 한소끔 끓여준다. Add water and boil.

4.진간장과 소금을 넣어 간하고 두부와 다진 파를 넣어 완성한다.

Add dark soy sauce to season and tofu and diced green onion to finish.

or those fond of Octopus dishes, and for those keen on Korean versions of the aforementioned food, I've found a place you. Well, I didn't find it, I was directed to it, but that's semantics.

It was an unseasonably cold November afternoon when Russell, my trusted guru on Korean restaurants, suggested we immediately venture off to Mookyo Dong Nakji. It seemed far to me to go for lunch, but it turns out he really meant a lovely little restaurant a mere five minute drive from our office, located on the east side of Yonge street a little north of Steeles at Clark.

The restaurant, I was told, specializes in Octopus dishes-this fit the bill perfectly, as I've learned from experience, a very satisfying way to combat the Canadian chills of winter is to dine at a Korean restaurant and order something red and spicy. Indeed, this is exactly what I did after standing out in the cold at the Santa Claus Parade last weekend. A cure what ails you in such instances, it turns out. And so, on this day, we ordered pan fried octopus, served with a garden of vegetables and bathed in a rich, spicy sauce. It was grilled before our eyes.

As everything cooked and the smell rose into the air, I knew we'd soon be in for a treat. The owner was kind enough to come to our table and explain the dish, and pointed out that her meals are traditional and just like one would find back in Mugyo-Dong, Seoul. She even imports many ingredients, such as the red pepper, from Korea to ensure the flavour is authentic. We also ordered a pork and kimchi dish, and Mung bean pancake. They were both very good, but it was the pancake that surprised me most. It was probably the best Korean style pancake I've had to date, with one important proviso to keep me out of trouble: except the ones my wife makes, if she's reading this.

We left the restaurant satisfied with warm, full stomachs, contented with our meal. I now look forward to the next blizzard, since I'll have a powerful antidote: Mookyo Dong Nakji. W
