‘Tremendous’ Ambassador golf course host for third time

Ambassador Golf Club will host the Windsor Championship again July 31 to Aug. 6, the first PGA TOUR Canada Fortinet Cup event here since 2019.

“Having PGA TOUR Canada golf returning to Windsor is something we’ve aimed to accomplish for several years, and this announcement and the tour’s return this summer brings back memories of the previous two tournaments Ambassador Golf Club hosted, in 2018 and 2019,” says tournament director Adam Wagner.

The Windsor Championship was part of the PGA TOUR Canada schedule in both seasons, with Mark Anguiano winning at Ambassador Golf Club in 2018 and Dawson Armstrong walking away from the course with the title a year later.

“It’s always nice to return to a city and golf course that to us already has great familiarity,” says Scott Pritchard, PGA TOUR Canada executive director. “Ambassador Golf Club is a tremendous golf course, and we feel privileged to be back in Windsor to play in front of what we know are both sophisticated and enthusiastic fans.”

The Windsor Championship is a 72-hole stroke-play event, offering official Fortinet Cup points. The players who earn the most Fortinet Cup points at season’s end earn membership on the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour.

Ambassador Golf Club is approaching 20 years in business. Opened in 2005, the Tom McBroom-designed, 7,033-yard course is consistently ranked as one of Canada’s top public courses.

In each of its previous two tournaments played, the Windsor Championship raised more than $200,000 for various charities in the region. The tournament will announce the

2023 charitable benefactors at a later date. “That was one of the things that was so attractive about returning to Windsor,” Pritchard adds. “We always examine the charitable and community impact we hope our tournaments will have. In discussions with Mayor Drew Dilkens and with the host organization, we are all confident that Windsor and the Windsor Championship will once again deliver.”
