7 Ways to Rock FASHION MISMATCHED EARRINGS

The mismatched earring trend has existed for a while, and to pull it off, there are some things you need to consider. To avoid people thinking you accidentally mixed up two similar earrings, you must choose two earrings that are very different from one another. The whole idea is to look like you deliberately mismatched your earrings, not that you give people the impression that you made a mistake. Let us explore seven ways in which you can rock mismatched earrings.

1.

One sure way to highlight your mismatched earrings is to wear a long earring, such as hoops, danglers, and the like, on one ear and a shorter one, like a simple diamond stud, on the other. Doing this will make them more noticeable and attractive.

2. 3. PLAY WITH LENGTHS WEAR DIFFERENT GEOMETRICAL SHAPES GO FOR CONTRASTING COLOURS

Keep things interesting by combining differentshaped earrings. For example, you may mix round stud earrings with starshaped numerals, rectangular earrings with hoops, and square earrings with triangles; the list is endless.

An alternative to wearing mismatched earrings is to style two identically sized earrings in different hues. Consider embellished earrings in various metal tones, such as rose gold and bronze, gold and silver, or even the classic black and white combo.

VOL 4 NO. 20 • MAY 19, 2024 PAGE 4 THEWILL DOWNTOWN • www.thewilldowntown.com

This design is meant to make your ears stand out, but it shouldn’t force you to adopt an ensemble that doesn’t match your style. Refrain from breaking the rule if you feel like you are breaking it and don’t like it. However, if a particular pair of earrings truly captures your attention and you appreciate their mismatched appearance, grab them.

4. 5. 6.

7. DON’T LOSE YOUR SENSE OF STYLE INCORPORATE EAR CHAIN

Ear chains are another fashion accessory that capitalizes on the mismatched look. They usually cuff one portion of your ear, leaving the other part free to be worn as regular earrings. To get this look, wear regular earrings on one side and a chain on the other. Playing with the mismatched trend may be enjoyable and safe with this approach.

CONCLUSION

Wearing one bold pair of earrings can be so elegant and transformative. Wear simple jewellery with statement earrings to help draw attention to your face. Keep the rest of your jewellery basic and go for a modest stud in the other ear if you want to wear statement earrings that draw attention to your face. Wear your hair off your neck or pulled back from your ears to draw attention to the earring.

WEAR A STATEMENT EARRING PAY LESS ATTENTION TO THE HARDWARE

The majority of earrings have hardware made of either silver or gold. The hardware refers to the earring’s backings, edges, or other components. You most likely won’t want to mix and match your hardware if you’re striving for a single, consistent style. However, don’t get too fixated on the hardware’s colour since you are trying to mix it up. Even though you would have first thought to avoid it, pairing gold with silver can really be a striking combination.

Wearing mismatched earrings can help you stand out from the crowd. They give off a bold, confident vibe. While you may need to step outside your typical jewellery comfort zone to pull off this style, if you do it confidently, you’ll look amazing and turn heads.

SPIRITUAL JOURNEYS

Destinations For Soulful Enlightenment

When it comes to trips to different cities, two thoughts mostly go into people’s minds: they either think it’s for business or pleasure. However, one fundamental reason for travelling is almost always forgotten, and that reason is spiritual growth. People also travel to reconnect with their inner selves.

Embarking on a spiritual journey allows us to find solace, inspiration, and clarification, and the world is brimming with beautiful and sacred places for this. We will highlight five destinations to help with your quest for inner peace.

Mount Koya, Japan

Mount Koya, home to over 100 monasteries, shrines, and temples, is a pilgrimage site that offers visitors and worshipers a serene atmosphere and a glimpse into Japanese Buddhism’s ancient rituals and traditions. One of the most prominent temples in Mount Koya is the Kongobu-ji Temple, the head temple of the Shingon sect of Japanese Buddhism. Mount Koya allows you to connect with your inner spirit while learning more about its culture.

Lourdes, France

A sacred pilgrimage site honoured by Christians of Catholic beliefs, Lourdes is home to the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes, which was built in honour of the visions of the Virgin Mary, who appeared to a young girl named Bernadette Soubirous in 1858. Visitors participate in mass and prayer services, as well as bathe in the water of the Lourdes Grotto, which is believed to possess miraculous healing properties.

Rishikesh, India

Nicknamed the Yoga and Meditation Capital of the World, Rishikesh is located in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. While several gods are being revered, Lord Shiva is the main deity worshipped in Rishikesh. It is home to many Ashrams, which serve as centres for spiritual teachings, meditation, and retreats.

Uluru (Ayers Rock), Australia

The Australian Outback is home to a massive sandstone monument respected as a sacred site by the native Anangu people. Uluru Rock is considered a resting place for ancient spirits, hence its status as a religious monument. This spiritual monument attracts visitors who take guided walks and gain cultural experiences in the spiritual traditions of the native culture.

Bali, Indonesia

Known as the Island of the gods, this beautiful tropical paradise is dotted with ancient temples, lush landscapes, and a spiritual ambience. It is believed that the Earth’s Kundalini energy is found on the island, and this energy is thought to purify the blood of the Earth and, therefore, cleanse and rejuvenate the soul and body as well.

Embarking on spiritual journeys promotes personal growth and knowledge about the nature of existence. Whether meditating in the tranquil atmosphere of a temple or taking a spirit walk, these sacred destinations offer whatever your soul needs for spiritual enlightenment.

Celebrating Growth in The Nigerian Fashion Scene Couture Culture

Vibrant, creative, culturally expressive, and innovative are just a few words to describe the fashion scene in Nigeria.

Nigerian fashion has thrilled consumers locally and internationally with rich traditional textiles, vibrant colours, and intricate designs. In recent years, Nigerian designers and brands have been at the centre of bringing the country’s unique fashion designs to the global stage, gaining both attention and acclaim from fashion lovers around the world.

One of the key factors driving the success of Nigerian fashion brands on the global stage is their ability to blend traditional African influences with modern design elements. From complex

Ankara prints to bold geometric patterns and adornments, Nigerian designers have mastered the art of infusing their collections with a sense of cultural heritage while also pushing the boundaries of modern fashion.

Also, Nigerian fashion brands have harnessed the power of social media and digital platforms to showcase their designs to a global audience. With the rise of Instagram influencers, fashion bloggers, and online retail platforms, Nigerian designers have found new means to connect with consumers beyond the local markets. The digital presence has enabled Nigerian fashion brands to reach customers in far corners of the world, and this method of reaching more

audiences has created more demand for their unique designs and expanded their global footprint.

In addition, Nigerian fashion brands have been active in forging partnerships and collaborations with international retailers, fashion houses, and influencers. By collaborating with established brands and designers, Nigerian fashion labels have gained exposure to new markets and audiences, further solidifying their global presence.

Here, we recognise some brands that put the Nigerian fashion scene on the map.

Atafo is an award-winning fashion label known for its exquisite designs, creative craftsmanship, and innovative approach to men’s and women’s wear. Atafo adds luxury and sophistication to suits and traditional Nigerian wear.

Speaking with Ohimai Atafo, the mastermind behind this successful brand, he gave us a brief comment on how Atafo became a reality.

“I started my fashion brand when I was working. I had a 9-5, and I was doing fashion on the side; I was trying to make clothes that I wanted and I couldn’t find; that was where I started. I started Atafo in 2010. I would say the growth has been good; I think we have done quite well in gaining international and global recognition. We feature in movies; we have been put in museums, I have had to speak of my brand on different platforms, Harvard University, you know, in other kind of setting, so that’s growth and we are happy about it.”

For challenges, he had this to say:

“We are trying to survive the Nigerian economy, keep our heads afloat, with what the dollar is doing and the environment being so volatile, I think surviving right now is important, so we are trying to ensure that even our staff survive what’s happening in the country.”

As for future plans for the ATAFO brand, he said:

“We are focusing on the present now, like I said, survive the country. For now, there’s none, we are focusing on the present.”

Emmy Kasbit

Lisa Folawiyo Studio

Lisa Folawiyo has created a fashion brand renowned for its blend of the Ankara material with modern and trendy designs. Speaking with Lisa Folawiyo herself, she gave us some insights on how she brought her dream to reality.

“Well, with me, what happened was that, after my study and short practice in law, I realised very quickly that I was not cut out for what I thought was the creative space, and I wanted to channel that creative energy through fashion. I needed to move to where I could have my voice heard and fill a gap that I felt was there. I wanted useful, very contemporary clothing that also celebrated my culture, where I am from, while also making use of the resources that were available to me in Nigeria. In addition to that, I am someone who has also loved colours and prints, even while I was younger, I used to do lots of drawing and paintings. I wouldn’t say it was something I was good at, but I just enjoyed it, and all those things together just led me to create the Lisa Folawiyo brand that it is today.”

Speaking on her brand’s objectives, she had this to say:

“The main objective was to create a Nigerian fashion brand that spoke a global language. I remember writing my visions when the brand was brewing; I want whatever I have to do with fashion to be appreciated all over the world, so starting with home, the idea in terms of designs, and who we are as a brand, I wanted it to speak to everyone and anyone wherever you are. I wanted it to be a brand that women all over the world would be able to identify with, understand, desire, and demand. I had the idea of turning the Ankara fabric from something just plain and regular into something more sophisticated and exquisite.”

On challenges, here’s what she had to say:

“I would say the obvious infrastructural situation, you know, the lack of electricity, the market cost, but I think those ones are very obvious for everyone though, particularly when you are working in an environment that doesn’t really enable growth, which is the truth, especially in the creative space. Another challenge in the early stages for me was getting people’s minds to accept that this was a new direction in Nigerian fashion. I didn’t really have the knowledge at the beginning, basically walking in blind, but still growing every day despite not having it all figured out. But I know business is a risk, so challenges are bound to exist.”

When we asked about the future plans for the Lisa Folawiyo brand, she said, “Yeah, we definitely have a show coming up, hopefully in the last quarter of the year, and while we look forward to that, we would keep on working towards growth, all types of growth. For me, I am always working towards getting women intrigued by anything I create, it’s forever my duty, so I am going to be working towards that in the future, even for men’s wear. Just continue creating fashionable pieces that women all over the world can connect with; that’s just the future plan, really, basically the growth of the brand.”

A prominent Nigerian brand in the fashion scene, Emmy Kasbit is known for its bold and diverse designs that blend traditional Nigerian elegance with modern flair. Growing steadily, Emmy Kasbit is set on redefining African fashion.

Taking out time from his busy schedule, Emmy Kasbit’s founder Emmanuel Okoro gave us a bit of the brand’s origin story.

“I started the brand in 2014, and the sole aim of starting the brand was to change the way the Western world viewed African fashion. So, in a nutshell, I wanted to be one of the designers putting African fashion on the global market and to take these small crafts from a small community to the centre stage, which is the European market, so that’s basically the whole aim of the brand. It’s been 10 years now, and so far, so good, there have been challenges along the way, but I feel like every business in Nigeria undergoes challenges, although I feel like we have been able to circumvent this and find out what works for us, while also mastering the art and how we operate on a daily basis.”

“We are changing the Nigerian fashion scene, but we are also doing it not just for Nigeria but for the whole of Africa; that’s the objective, that’s what we have set out to do, that’s the main goal. I feel like our success wasn’t overnight; even right now, we might not be where we want to be, but we are not where we were yesterday. It’s something we wake up every day and keep putting in the work. It’s been 10 years so far, and at the time that I started, it was just me and just one tailor.”

“For challenges, I would say power, of course, this is Nigeria, and we all know power is a serious issue. Also, access to funding and quality manpower, I mean good tailors. These are the issues we have had to face. Although we have ways to make do with what we have and still put out our work, keep showing up every day, so we are still building the brand.”

He also had this to say concerning the future of the brand.

“The plan is a big one. We just turned 10 in January, and in the coming years, we would want to develop more international presence, get more international stores, and more walk-in stores nationwide cause right now, we have the Lagos HQ, the walk-in store, and we want to do more, so we are looking towards bringing this whole lifestyle to the western market by opening other stores across the world, partnering with international stores too. Also, with the African hub that we are working on, we want to empower more women. These are what we are planning to do in the coming years, and I believe we are on the right track.”

LDA

Announcing itself to the fashion world in 2005, the LDA brand set out to create designs that stand out in the fashion scene, from couture, to ready-to-wear dresses, jewels, and hairpieces, the LDA brand creates collections worthy of appraisal.

Speaking with LDA’s founder and designer, Lanre Da Silva, she had this to say on the origins of LDA.

“My strong passion for the fashion industry was the key driving force that stirred me up to be creative, innovative, different, and unique with my designs.

Back in 2005, when I began, I was into the Victorian-era style of dressing, which was not popular at the time in Lagos. My love for the Vintage era took off whilst, I was studying in the UK.

I would visit shopping spots like Portobello market, London Vintage Fashion Textile and Accessories Fair at Hammersmith Town Hall. I arrived back in Lagos and incorporated my sense of dressing, it was perceived as different, strange, and new at first to people, but gradually people did not mind being different, and they embraced the boldness of my designs. We are committed to delivering excellent customer service to our customers, to be dynamic and innovative, in the production of high-quality clothing that is timeless and unique.”

Commenting on obstacles the brand has overcome over the years, she says:

“Some of the main challenges of the fashion industry in Nigeria is lack of power, capital to stay afloat, and continue in business, and lack of infrastructure. This makes working conditions unbearable sometimes, with overhead costs on the high.”

As expected, there are plans for the future of the brand, and she tells us that “The LDA brand is expanding. I foresee more stockists here in Nigeria, Africa, and Europe.”

Deola Sagoe

A pioneering fashion brand in Nigeria acknowledged for its finesse, luxury, and creativity, Deola Sagoe was founded by Deola Sagoe herself in 1989, the brand has become a trendsetter in the African fashion industry, redefining traditional Nigerian fabric and designs for the modern worldwide market.

Deola Sagoe’s journey began with a vision to celebrate and preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage through fashion. With a commitment to quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, the brand quickly gained recognition for its signature blend of elaborate adornments, vibrant colours, and contemporary style.

Despite its success, Deola Sagoe’s fashion brand has faced its share of challenges, such as dealing with the reality of economic fluctuations and overcoming logistical and infrastructure constraints in Nigeria’s fashion ecosystem. However, these challenges have only fueled the brand’s determination to innovate and adapt, leading to the development of new strategies and initiatives for growth.

Looking ahead, Deola Sagoe’s fashion brand remains dedicated to its main values of authenticity, creativity, and sustainability. With a renewed focus on expanding its global presence and reaching new markets, the brand is exploring opportunities for collaboration, digital innovation, and social impact initiatives to propel it into the future.

Through its commitment to excellence and its non-stop dedication to showcasing the beauty of African fashion, Deola Sagoe’s fashion brand continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, cementing its legacy as a true icon of African luxury fashion. In conclusion, Nigeria’s fashion scene stands as a symbol of creativity, diversity, and innovation on the global stage. From the vibrant Ankara prints to the exquisite craftsmanship of traditional fabrics, Nigerian designers continue to push boundaries, challenge norms, and redefine the narrative of African fashion. With a rich cultural heritage as its foundation, the industry is experiencing tremendous growth, led by a generation of creative and innovative designers, entrepreneurs, and visionaries who are reshaping the landscape and driving sustainable change.

Breakfast can be considered the most significant meal of the day since it determines our energy levels and productivity throughout the day. Eating only toast or cereal in the morning can get boring after a while, which is another reason you need to top your breakfast game. In this article, we will share six creative breakfast ideas to transform your breakfast routine.

(1) SAVOURY OATMEAL BOWLS

We can all agree that eating oatmeal the same way daily can get boring. To add a savoury touch, try adding cheese, sauteed veggies, and your favourite seasonings, among others. Doing this gives you the delightful savoury ingredient you need to start your day and helps enhance the flavour even further.

(2) PROTEIN-PACKED SMOOTHIE BOWLS

Try making a richer, more filling smoothie bowl instead of the same old, boring smoothie. Blend your preferred fruits with Greek yoghurt or plant-based protein powder to give your smoothie an extra protein boost. To make your breakfast more eye-catching and wholesome, sprinkle fresh fruit, nuts, and edible seeds.

(3) EGG MUFFINS WITH A TWIST

Try adding unusual ingredients to give your conventional egg muffins a unique twist. To do this, try adding some chopped vegetables, feta cheese, and herbs before baking. In case you don’t know, egg muffins are one of the tasty, high-protein, versatile, portable breakfasts.

(4) AVOCADO TOAST 2.0

To improve your avocado game, try experimenting with different toppings. Consider topping your avocado with balsamic glaze, cherry tomatoes, or poached eggs. In addition to helping provide healthy fats, avocados have a unique flavour explosion that will entice your palate.

(5) QUINOA BREAKFAST BOWL

Quinoa is a great breakfast, lunch, or dinner alternative. After cooking, serve it with nuts, fruits, and a dollop of yoghurt. Incorporate quinoa into your breakfast options to energise your morning. This power-packed bowl includes a blend of complex carbohydrates, proteins, and vital nutrients.

(6) DIY BREAKFAST BURRITOS

Make your burritos and take charge of your breakfast. Top wholegrain tortillas with diced vegetables, black beans, scrambled eggs, and cheese. With this handson approach, you may customise your burrito to your taste, making for a happy and content start to the day.

CONCLUSION

Spending a lot of money or effort to reinvent breakfast is unnecessary. With these creative ideas, anyone can easily break free from the breakfast rut and start a tasty daily adventure. They offer a new outlook on morning meals. So why limit yourself to the usual when you can make breakfast a delicious and affordable adventure?

Face Mist

And Why You Should Add it to Your Skincare Routine

One effective way to give your skin what it craves regarding hydration, antioxidants, and glow is by incorporating face mist into your beauty routine. A face mist is more than just spritzing water on your face; it has a lot of benefits for the skin. We could say a face mist is the second cousin of a serum; the only thing is that it is more liquid than a serum and even more versatile than a serum. This article will explore the benefits of incorporating face mist into your skincare routine.

2.ENHANCED ABSORPTION OF PRODUCTS

Using a face mist can improve the absorption of other skincare products. When your skin is somewhat damp from the mist, it becomes more permeable, enabling subsequent products, such as moisturisers and serums, to sink deeper into the skin. Applying your other skincare products after spritzing your face mist will allow them to function more efficiently, giving you more value for your money.

1. INSTANT HYDRATION

Face mists are shortcuts to infusions and heroes of hydration. As we said earlier, they are similar to serums due to the inclusion of nutrients that promote healthy skin, such as hyaluronic acid, vitamin C, and even alpha hydroxy acids. Since they enable us to absorb some of the beneficial ingredients without the strain of a five—or ten-step procedure, they’re a bit of a skincare cheat.

4.SOOTHING RELIEF FOR IRRITATED SKIN

A face mist might be your soothing go-to solution for sensitive or irritated skin. Calming components like aloe vera, chamomile, and cucumber extract are found in many face mists, and they work to lessen redness, irritation, and inflammation. A gentle mist can instantly soothe and relieve your skin, regardless of the cause—a harsh weather reaction, contaminants in the environment, or just too much skincare product exposure.

3.REVITALISATION ON-THE-GO

Your on-the-go skincare superheroes and face mists are not simply for use at home. A little spray on your face may instantly brighten and revitalise dull, tired skin, no matter where you are—in traffic, in a stuffy office, or on a long flight. Like when you press the refresh button on your face, you can get a quick pick-me-up wherever and whenever you need it.

CONCLUSION

5.

STRESS RELIEF AND AROMATHERAPY

A face mist can offer a moment of serenity and relaxation during your busy day, in addition to its skincare advantages. Aromatic essential oils like lavender, rose, or eucalyptus are added to many face mists, and they have healing qualities in addition to being delicious to smell. It’s the ideal addition to your self-care arsenal to give yourself a quick spritz of this relaxing fragrance to help reduce stress, lift your spirits, and encourage well-being.

Adding a face mist to your skincare regimen is a simple but effective step toward having healthy, glowing skin. A face mist provides a comprehensive approach to skincare that goes beyond superficial beauty with its rapid hydration, improved absorption, revitalisation on the go, calming relief, and stress-relieving qualities. So, remember to add this renewing elixir to your skincare essentials the next time you reach for them. Your skin will appreciate the rejuvenating boost.

Debunking Myths For Beginners GYM CULTURE

Everyone has a depiction of how they wish their bodies would be; while some are happy with theirs, others want to change something about their physique, which is why many people hit the gym. Embarking on this fitness journey can be both exciting and intimidating, especially for beginners when they come into the gym and see more experienced fitness enthusiasts doing the most in the gym. Being a beginner makes one even more vulnerable to falling for different myths and misconceptions about fitness practices and the gym culture as a whole. As such, these myths hinder progress and make it seem as though efforts are just in vain. But not to worry—in this week’s gym guide, we will debunk some common myths that beginners need to know.

You Need to Be Fit Before Joining the Gym

As basic as it may sound, it seems that many people still fall for this. You don’t have to be fit before joining the gym. If you are already fit without going to the gym, there’s no reason to stress yourself out by going at all.

The gym is for everyone, regardless of your fitness level.

Muscle Turns Into Fat When You Stop Working Out

One major thing to know about this myth is that muscles and fats are two different types of tissues. It’s simple biology, really. When one stops exercising, muscle mass decreases due to lack of use, while fat levels could increase due to consuming more calories.

Cardio is The Only Way to Lose Weight

There’s no doubt that cardio is a very efficient method of losing weight and improving cardiovascular health, but it’s not the only method.

Maintaining a balanced diet helps you lose weight, and strength training does that, too. Basically, you need to burn fat and build muscles.

Spending Hours in The Gym to See Results

Spending an hour or 90 minutes daily in the gym and consistently working out is good enough. You don’t have to overdo things; spending at least an hour daily is enough. When at the gym, the quality of your workout is more important than the quantity.

Rest Days Are for the Weak

Of course, the quotes are just cheap emotional blackmail. Too much of everything is bad, and overtraining leads to burnout. Setting aside a day to rest, especially if you are feeling worn out, doesn’t make you weak; your body needs rest for the muscles to recover.

Supplements to Build Muscles

One doesn’t need supplements; supplements are more of “wants” than “needs.” A balanced diet provides the nutrients your body needs, while supplements should be used as a complement to your diet, not a replacement.

Now that these myths have been debunked, it’s up to you to stop fear or self-doubt from holding you back and achieving that fitness level you want to attain. Embrace the process, stay consistent, and enjoy the rewards that come with it.

DIY Tech Repairs TECH TALK

Easy Fixes For Common Gadget Issues

ISSUE

Your smartphone or tablet screen isn’t responding as it should.

FIX

Wipe the screen gently with a microfiber cloth to give your smartphone a fresh start. If the issue continues, try restarting your device or doing a soft reset. This entails holding down the power button until the device restarts.

ISSUE

Your gadget has become sluggish and unresponsive.

FIX

Delete any unnecessary background apps. To force-stop apps that use too much memory on smartphones, navigate to your settings and locate the task manager or app manager. To create additional space, consider removing any apps you are no longer using.

ISSUE

Our devices are our lifelines in the ever-evolving world of technology. What occurs, though, if they start misbehaving? Give your devices another opportunity with a few easy do-it-yourself tweaks before you head to the closest repair shop or consider buying a replacement. These solutions are simple and made for anyone ready to do some minor tinkering; you don’t have to be a tech wizard.

ISSUE

Your gadget struggles to connect to WiFi or frequently drops the connection.

FIX

Restart your device and your router. If the problem continues, forget the WiFi network on your smartphone and reconnect. Connectivity problems may also be fixed by updating the firmware on your device or checking for firmware updates for your network.

Your device doesn’t hold a charge like it used to.

FIX

Change your gadget’s settings to extend its battery life. Reduce the screen’s brightness, shut down background apps, and turn off unused features (such as GPS). If your current battery keeps dying quickly, consider getting a new one.

ISSUE

Your gadget feels excessively hot during use.

FIX

A faulty battery or an excessive number of open apps might cause overheating. Ensure your gadget has adequate ventilation, and remove any protective covers that could retain heat. If the issue continues, seek additional help from a specialist or the manufacturer.

ISSUE

Physical buttons on your device aren’t working.

FIX

Examine the buttons for dirt or debris, and then use a small brush or compressed air to clean them carefully. If the issue continues, you might need to open your device (if possible) and look for any obvious damage. Applying a tiny bit of isopropyl alcohol may be helpful in certain situations.

Try these easy DIY solutions before throwing in the towel and giving your device to professional repair services. You may be astonished at how simple it is to give your reliable gadgets a new lease of life if you have a little perseverance and are prepared to try different things. Remember that often, all it takes to get things back on track with technology is a few simple modifications; it doesn’t have to be a mystery.

1. FORGET ABOUT YOUR TO-DO LIST

Stress can hinder your mood, so before you put off the lights and start getting sensual, try to forget about whatever plans or tasks are on your to-do list. Instead, focus on the present because that’s the only way to create the space for pleasure.

2. BE COMFORTABLE IN YOUR BODY

Many are ignorant of the fact that being comfortable or confident in their body plays a huge role in finding pleasure. Deep breathing, exercising, and spending time outside can help you to feel more relaxed and connected with your body. Before your body can send energy and blood flow to the genitals to become aroused, it needs to be calm enough. So feel free to employ whichever muscle-relieving method you find most effective, whether by getting a professional masseuse, using a massage gun, or using your hands.

3. ENGAGE YOUR SENSES WITH HOT VISUALS AND SOUNDS

Engaging your senses other than just touch can facilitate the start of arousal, as the brain is the primary source of arousal. A time-honoured classic (ethical) porn may hold the secret to regaining that cosy sensation between your legs. A good audio sex story might be just what you need to get lost in.

6 Best Ways to Get

Going from 0 to 100 with a partner doesn’t happen in ten seconds. Getting your engine running takes time, and this is also the same when you’re alone, which is why you need to take the situation into your own hands and find ways to boost your libido. From there, you’ll be able to light your flame just as you want. In this article, we will explore ways to turn yourself on.

4. DO NOT FORGET TO USE YOUR FANTASIES

If your libido needs a pick-me moment, you probably can recall at least one spectacular sexcapade. Allowing your thoughts to wander there can energise your body and focus your attention on the task at hand. Remembering old times can be a definite way to get your engine revved, whether you and your ex had a steamy romp in his car or you banged it out to seductive music on silk sheets. Better still, you can get lost in your imagination. Imagining yourself in that position or kink you want to explore in real life is the best way to turn yourself on.

CONCLUSION

5. EXPLORE YOUR BODYPARTNERS

Explore your body if your usual spots aren’t cutting it anymore. Applying pressure to the regions on the right and left of your labia majora, where your leg and pelvis meet, can provide amazing pressure relief. For even better results, try lightly squeezing your nipples and sliding your fingertips over your collarbones. Pay attention to the sensations that work best with your labia, pubic mound, and taint.

6.MAKE USE OF A SEX TOY

The role of sex toys in enhancing arousal and improving orgasm cannot be underestimated. Whether you use them alone or with your partner, they can be one way to empower your experience.

Keep in mind that everyone experiences difficulty getting turned on, and this is very natural. Numerous factors might influence one’s level of sexual arousal. Nonetheless, if your old ways aren’t working, you should prioritise setting aside time to find new things that might turn you on.

MOVIE REVIEW:

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes

In a forest of teetering, overburdened movie franchises, Planet of the Apes stands as a mighty oak. Where other sprawling sagas spread themselves thin, wear out their welcome, or recycle the same characters and ideas again and again, the Apes series slowly but consistently grows in new directions and reaches new heights. Since its 2011 reboot, Planet of the Apes has been an anomaly amidst big-budget studio tentpoles, emphasising drama over action and utilising digital performance capture technology in the service of great acting and complicated characters. Now, after a seven-year hiatus, a new cast and creative team kicks off a new trilogy with one of the strongest films in the series.

Wes Ball’s Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes doesn’t surpass the Shakespearean heights of Matt Reeves’ Dawn, but it does honour its patience and moral complexity, offering an intriguing social thought experiment and exciting ape adventure.

Kingdom is set centuries in the future, long after humanity has fallen to a plague of its own making that left survivors mute and intellectually stunted. In its place has risen a civilisation of chimpanzees, gorillas, bonobos, and orangutans granted humanlike intelligence by the same disease. Our world is a distant memory, and Caesar, the 21st-century ape messiah, has become just that: a legendary figure whose history and message have been obscured and distorted over time.

Our new protagonist is Noa (Owen Teague), a young chimpanzee from a clan that’s never even heard of Caesar. When his village is ransacked by a merciless empire led by Proximus (Kevin Durand), who claims to be Caesar’s heir, Noa embarks on a quest across a forbidden valley to rescue his family. Along the way, he encounters a gentle orangutan philosopher (Peter Macon) and a young human woman (Freya Allan) who may be more than she appears. Their journey is an old-school adventure story, pitting them against natural, manmade, and ape-made obstacles that test their courage, their allegiances, and their ethical boundaries.

Though he demonstrates his bravery early on via a dangerous climb up an ivy-covered skyscraper, Noa is something of an every-ape, sort of a Luke Skywalker to Caesar’s Anakin. (Narratively speaking.

They do not share any blood.)

Noa’s bland side is a drag in the first act, but the film livens up significantly with the arrival of Peter Macon’s Raka, an instantly likeable scholar who preaches a more peaceful (but still inaccurate) interpretation of Caesar’s gospel. All of the ape characters have unusual rhythms to their speech, but Raka’s radiates pure music. Raka can get a laugh out of a shrug or a glance, but it’s his warm presence that gives the movie life when it needs it the most.

There to challenge Raka’s pacifism and moral certainty is the villainous Proximus, who has flattened Caesar’s philosophy to a single sound byte (“Apes! Together! Strong!”) and repurposed it as a slogan for conquest. Kingdom’s allegory about diverging belief systems from a common source is refreshing in its complexity. Finding or proving what Caesar truly believed isn’t possible, as there are few reliable records of his life. Instead, characters must choose for themselves what they want to do with what little they know.

The back half of Kingdom involves multiple interlocking moral dilemmas that make the most out of the world left over from the previous trilogy. Apes have inherited the world from a humanity that doomed itself. But does that necessarily mean that everything that was once humanity’s now belongs to ape-kind? What are the apes’ obligations to the former rulers of this world? What is humanity’s role now, and what if they don’t like it? Like the best films in the franchise, Kingdom’s conflict does not map directly to any current events but inspires thought about conflict in general. It’s clear who the bad guy is, but that doesn’t mean all the good guys share the same interests or work towards the same outcome.

As for the visual effects, despite nearly every shot including a digitally-rendered character, the hard work of the VFX team is practically invisible, which is the aim of any effects artist. Wes Ball made a point of shooting as much as possible on location rather than using digital environments, upon which modern blockbusters have developed a troubling reliance. With the effects teams able to dedicate their time and budget to where it’s really needed and the actors able to immerse themselves in an environment, the CGI apes become totally convincing characters.

Kingdom provides a rock-solid foundation for a new series of Apes films, leaving the titular planet with its most interesting status quo to date. Though not the best installment of Planet of the Apes (that remains Dawn), it’s a strong second place, and a fair sight better than the film that launched the last trilogy, Rupert Wyatt’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes If Wes Ball, screenwriter Josh Friedman, or whoever succeeds them can build on this first chapter as well as Matt Reeves did in 2014, then there’s potential for their follow-up to be every bit as compelling. What a strange feeling it is, amidst the franchise fatigue of 2024, to be excited about the future of a 56-year-old film series and to feel as if its best days might still be ahead of it. Long live the king.

BLOOD OF ZEUS SEASON 2

Before superheroes existed, gods and monsters and bastard half-human children wrought violence throughout the universe.

Created by Charley Parlapanides and Vlas Parlapanides, who also teamed up to write all 16 episodes so far, Blood of Zeus takes mythology very seriously, which makes for a refreshing break from the past two or three decades of movies and television shows that have churned out many lighthearted yet superpowered heroes and villains who are largely indistinguishable beneath their masks and costumes. Greek mythology is largely the basis for superhero tales, after all, so in going back to the source, the Parlapanides brothers treat the original gods and monsters with deep respect.

The gods in the series may be immortal, but they are far from perfect. They are filled with the same flawed personality traits and negative inclinations as humans. Whereas Season 1 started from the perspective of humans, Season 2 begins from the perspective of the gods, focusing mainly on Heron and Seraphim as they follow different paths after the events in Season 1.

Resplendent in darkly beautiful animation, Blood of Zeus feels like a graphic novel brought to life. The characters are well-defined and very expressive, playing against detailed backgrounds without

being unnecessarily fussy. The colour scheme slants heavily toward darker tones, which is very appropriate for the underworld, of course, but also in devastations that are wrought upon heaven and earth. Blood flows, flies, and spurts, leaving gaping holes, exposed intestines, and severed limbs.

T he Parlapanides brothers often write eloquent speeches for the characters to deliver and the voice cast performs them admirably. Each episode is a little bit different in how it presents its portion of the overall narrative, while featuring compelling B-stories that fill in the

background of the gods and humans who (mostly) aim to be brave and honourable in their own actions, even if they feel they must decimate thousands to do it.

For those with a taste for the gods, demigods, and monsters, as well as a few humans, of ancient Greek mythology, the series more than satisfies, while offering something for every lover of a good tale told right.
