Iron Goat Trail
• Experience the popular and stunning Wallace Falls on this 2.5mile trail (one-way). Continue past the falls for a longer hike to quiet Wallace Lake. • In the town of Gold Bar, follow the signs two miles northeast to Wallace Falls State Park. Heybrook Lookout
• Take this 1.3-mile (one-way) steep, forested trail to Heybrook Lookout, a 67-foot-tall restored fire lookout tower that provides scenic views of the Skykomish Valley, Mount Baring, and Mount Index. • The trailhead is located north of Highway 2 near milepost 37, just east of the “Entering Mt. Bygone Byways Trail
• Travel a gentle and easy 2.2-mile trail (one-way) through old and new forest to Barclay Lake. The lake is nestled between imposing Merchant Peak and Baring Mountain and sits at the edge of the Wild Sky Wilderness. • In the town of Baring near milepost 41, turn north from Highway 2 onto Forest Road 6024 and continue 4.5 miles to the trailhead. • Stretch your legs on this one-mile loop trail and learn about the history of rail and road transportation on Stevens Pass. Listen for noisy Nason Creek below. • Going westbound, turn north into the parking area near milepost 68; the trail is not easily accessible going eastbound on Highway 2. No parking pass is required. Wheelchair accessible.

Chiwaukum Creek
Beckler Peak Trail
• Hike along chattering Chiwaukum Creek through cedar, cottonwood, and ponderosa pine groves into the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. At 2.5 miles, a creekside campsite provides a good resting stop and turnaround point. • Between mileposts 88 and 89, turn south onto Chiwaukum Creek Road for 0.2 miles to the trailhead. Restroom available. Northwest Forest Pass required.
• Explore the newly built 3.6-mile trail (one-way) to Beckler Peak through new and old-growth forest to spectacular views of the peaks and valleys of Wild Sky, Alpine Lakes, and Henry Jackson Wilderness Areas. • Near milepost 54, turn north onto Forest Road 6066; follow the road for 6.7 miles to the trailhead. Penstock Trail (also known as Tumwater Pipeline)
• Explore magnificent old-growth forests of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness along this quiet trail and cross tumbling Deception Creek on a beautiful foot bridge. For a longer hike, continue beyond Deception Creek to Sawyer Creek and Tonga Ridge. • Near milepost 58, turn south onto Forest Road 6088; the turn off is 0.25 mile east of the Deception Falls Picnic Area. Follow Forest Road 6088 for 0.4 mile to its end at the trailhead.
• Explore this 1.2-mile historic pipeline trail in scenic Tumwater Canyon along the Wenatchee River. A steel bridge, big boulders, and nice sandy beaches are popular features along the way. The swift river current makes this area unsafe for swimming. • Between mileposts 97 and 98, turn onto a short road leading to the river’s edge. Restroom available. Photo: Sean Munson
Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest
www.fs.usda.gov/mbs, (360) 677-2414 (Skykomish Ranger District) The Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest is one of the most visited forests in the country, located east of Seattle, Washington on the west side of the Cascades between the Canadian border and Mt. Rainier National Park. The Skykomish Ranger District serves the westside of Highway 2; the ranger station is located in the town of Skykomish.
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest

Rainier, and east of the Cascade Crest to the Okanogan highlands. The Wenatchee River Ranger District serves the eastside of Highway 2; the ranger station is located in the town of Leavenworth.

• Take in mountain views and learn about the history of the Great Northern Railroad along this historic rail line, now a nine-mile trail with multiple trailheads. • To access the Martin Creek Trailhead, turn north on the Old Cascade Highway (Forest Road 67) near milepost 55 and proceed 2.3 miles to the junction with Forest Road 6710, then turn left onto Forest Road 6710 and proceed 1.4 miles. • To access the Scenic trailhead, turn north near milepost 58 to access the parking area which also serves as an interpretive site with a real caboose. • To access the Wellington trailhead, turn north about 0.25 mile west of the summit of Stevens Pass onto the Old Cascade Highway, proceed three miles then turn right onto Forest Road 050. • Restrooms available at all trailheads. Northwest Forest Pass required at the Martin Creek and Wellington trailheads.
