Success Rooted in Westview | Alumni Spotlight

Greg Harris

Greg attended Westview at the Shadyvilla location for his pre-elementary education from 1991 to 1993. Greg went on to graduate from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.. He lived in Denver for several years following graduation, is now happily married, and has lived back in Houston for over six years.

Greg's childhood memories of Westview include petting and feeding the giraffes during a field trip at the Houston Zoo. Greg shared that outings and interactions like these set up by the Westview staff really helped him greatly with social skills.

Greg praised Westview for their commitment to students. "The staff at Westview helped me tremendously the moment I stepped on their campus," said Greg. "Their care and patience working with me helped me develop my working and personal skills that I implement even to this day. They helped me work on my confidence, social and personal skills, and overcoming fears not everyone could understand."

Greg currently works for the Houston Marathon Committee as the Business Development Manager and Programs Manager for the Houston Marathon Foundation. Greg shared, "What I love about my position is that I get to meet all kinds of runners throughout the Houston community and managing an after-school running program for Houston area students."

Greg is proud of the opportunities and experiences he enjoyed at Westview and beyond. "Everything from the kind teachers to field trips to the Houston Zoo," he said. "I am overall proud to be a past student at an institution where everyone goes out of their way to make sure you will succeed in life."

Greg's parents Tim and Wendy Harris are extremely proud of Greg's accomplishment as well. "[Greg] is a wonderful young man who brings joy to all he does," shared his father, Tim. "He has taught us how important curiosity is in this life. Whether physically traveling the world or just delving deep into topics from the comfort of his own home, he never ceases to explore what interests him."

Forever grateful to Westview, The Harris Family have been contiuned supporters of Westview even after Greg was no longer a student. In 1998, during the capital campaign that funded the building of Westview's current location on Kersten Drive, Tim made a significant financial contribution to the school's future. The Westview library in the 1900 building is named for Tim and his wife, Wendy. Tim served on the Westview Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2021.

We will never forget what Westview has done for Greg and our family. Starting with Jane and Joel Stewart and all the way to the current Westview crew, you bring hope and answers to so many who need them. You can’t ask for more than that in this life. Wendy and I will always provide support to your daily efforts to give wonderful people like Greg a great start in life. - Tim Harris

Greg recently paid a visit to the Westview campus, and visited The Harris Library in the Lower School building. Greg had this advice to share with our students, "Patience is key!" he stressed. "It takes time for you and the staff to work together to overcome obstacles and to collaborate on the pathway to individual achievement."
