Please Give this your Urgent Attention! The Welcome Record commenced as a news sheet over 40 years ago and evolved into a popular community newspaper, with many volunteers coming and going over this time. Most of our current committee members have been part of the paper for over one quarter of this time and during this period, have been witness to many changes, both in the requirements of readers and the advances in technology. Volunteers have been and always will be the mainstay of our organisation and it is a prerequisite of producing such a paper that a sufficient number of volunteers is available. In the current environment, many community organisations are experiencing dilemmas such as ours, in that the pool of volunteers has been reduced, due to a variety of factors, including ageing populations and the reluctance of some to commit to volunteer work.

This may also be exacerbated in our situation, by some potential volunteers believing they do not have the required technological expertise to be of any assistance. We produce a quality weekly publication which aims to publish news from the local area, items of interest and sporting results, promote local events and to provide a forum for businesses to advertise at reasonable rates, also giving back to the community in the form of grants. Our small number of committed volunteers collate what is received via email, mail, telephone or by hand-delivery to the office, also sourcing articles from social media and appropriate newspapers. Without more volunteers, the time is coming where our committee may be forced to make a decision regarding the regularity of publication. Continued on page 3
