Anna Ashton’s Groovin’ Goblins Whimsical. Surreal. Intriguing. Colourful. Happy. Quirky. Sublime. Nonsensical. These are a few of the words used to describe the dynamic and diverse artworks on show at St Arnaud Raillery Hub Gallery for eight weeks from Friday 22 July 2022. Two Central Goldfield’s artists, Anna Ashton of Dunolly and Tenar Dwyer of Bealiba, have joined forces with Melbourne mates, Tanja Gawin and Jas Shalimar to create a group exhibition that truly does have something to delight every visitor. Anna Ashton and Tanja Gawin are felt artists of exceptional skill and limitless imagination. The results of their phenomenal ability to manipulate tangled and shrunk merino wool fibers is astonishing to behold.

Tanja’s colourful creatures with mysterious origins smirk and giggle from on high while Anna’s mythical beings emerge mischievously from dark grottos to gaze upon her Celtic influenced cushions, and one absolutely fabulous rug created using complex resists and inlay techniques. Perfectly complementing these tactile works are the paintings of Tenar Dwyer and Jas Shalimar which reveal each artist’s unique and unconventional view of the world. While the subjects Tenar immortalizes in oil on canvas with consummate skill and academic attention to detail are overtly ordinary, her compositions are not.
