Deledio Park Pavilion Pledge

To say I am ecstatic about yesterday’s announcement by Dr Anne Webster to pledge $3.6 million towards the proposed Deledio Park Pavilion, if the Coalition government is re-elected on Saturday, is an understatement.

The announcement at Deledio Recreation Reserve was well-attended, with representation by, amongst others, the Neighbourhood Centre, CFA, Dunolly Primary School, Dunolly Football Netball Club (DFNC), Riding Club, Deledio Reserve Sports Committee and Central Goldfields Shire Council officers and staff, including the CEO. This hasn’t just ‘come about’. It is the result of many years’ worth of work and planning. Since my election as

Flynn Ward Councillor 18 months ago, I’ve been a passionate advocate for this new building, attending meetings of the Deledio Reserve Sports Committee, as well as persistent lobbying of both Dr Anne Webster, MP - Mallee (Federal) and Louise Staley MP – Ripon (State). All this work has finally paid off, we did it!

This new building is not just for the Dunolly Football Netball Club, far from it. The whole community will benefit and will have access to it. It will be a new, modern and ‘fit for purpose’ facility to be enjoyed and used by everyone!

I am humbled to be able to help the Dunolly community get this project off the ground.

I have been wondering about truth in advertising lately, while watching TV. One in particular, is irritating me at the moment. It is the one telling us how to make a fluffy cappuccino from one of those sachets from the supermarket. It shows various people sipping their drink which has a lot of fluff on the top. I have tried them and while they are quite tasty, they certainly do not have that. I even tried stirring mine with a battery whisk to bring up the foam. This resulted in no drink, as the whisk flung it all over the place. I can only surmise that in the ads they put a layer of shaving cream on the coffee, or some of that aerosol cream in a can.

I decided to do a wash this morning, because it was Monday and there was a bit in the laundry hamper. I checked the sky and reckoned the sun would come out.

Wrong; just as I started to hang the clothes out, some of that moisture which is not really rain came down. "I'll finish this, I won't get very wet,” I thought. Wrong; had to change my jumper and dry my hair when I came in, then sit under the heater to thaw out. The plant stand is almost finished and is looking good.

There are few things more annoying than a dripping tap.

They seem to make an especially loud noise, particularly at night. I have one that is a serial offender. I turn it off so hard that I can hardly turn it on again. All is well, then as I walk away there is one last defiant "Plop ".

Deledio Park Pavilion Pledge Continued from front page The Deledio Reserve Sports Committee is a group of passionate community volunteers who have worked tirelessly, and they are to be commended on their unwavering enthusiasm, dedication and vision.

To see so many of them yesterday at Deledio Oval was special, with an atmosphere of pure joy. Incidentally, at the end of the announcement, when photos were being taken, a beautiful Eagle circled right above us for quite some time, I believe it was a sign.

We are not there just yet, as the build has an anticipated budget of $5 million. However, this Federal funding election pledge is a solid start and it’s hoped that the State Government will kick in with a further funding pledge for the election to be held in November this year.

It is now up to the community to further get behind this with our ‘Paver Fundraiser’, to raise $100,000 by the end of the year to contribute towards the building.

My sincere thanks and gratitude to Dr Anne Webster who, whilst being a sitting member in the largest geographical Federal electorate division in the State (at almost 82,000 square kilometres), still made Dunolly a top priority on her list!

Changing the Political Climate

On the occasion of National Volunteer Week, I would like to express my admiration, respect and gratitude to the hard working volunteers of our community.

Our town is filled with committees made up of hard working volunteers, who put aside time in their busy weeks to give back to their community because they are passionate advocates for a better world.

These volunteers have to face criticism and online abuse from time to time, an unfortunate side-effect of our online world, but still they roll their sleeves up.

I would like to acknowledge the following organisations I come into regular contact with, either as a committee member, or in my role at the Neighbourhood Centre: Dunolly Football Netball Club, The Welcome Record, Dunolly and District Neighbourhood Centre, Dunolly Hospital Auxiliary, Dunolly CWA, St. John’s Fellowship, Dunolly Golf Club, Dunolly Historic Precinct, Dunolly Rec Reserves Committee of Management, Deledio Reserve Sports Committee, Dunolly Arts Hub, DDI, RTC and CFA. Thank you all for being the heart and soul of our community.

Now that all voters have heard the arguments provided by candidates seeking their support, perhaps a check of the facts behind their comments might open a few eyes to the naïve thinking of virtually all candidates.

First read the fable “The Emperor’s New Clothes” then take the issue of “Climate Change” as just one and check how many bushfires we suffered last summer? How many cyclones we experienced last season? How great the stock feed and crops farmers have this season? How those dams that (according to Prof Flannery) were never going to fill again are all flooded, but most of all check for yourselves these candidates claim about sea level rises!

Go to the website Australia's official weather forecasts and weather radar — Bureau of Meteorology (bom.gov.au) and type in ‘sea levels’ in search: at “Australian Baseline Sea Level Monitoring Project” where you will find many points around Australia that have been monitored for years which when displayed as a PDF plot clearly shows that sea levels over the past 30 years have not risen to any extent the amount claimed (if any).

Having been convinced that you are being fed heaps of lies then I suggest you go out and buy a bag of ‘grains of salt’ which you can add to any future promises from current candidates. Ps Better check the site ASAP before this data is removed!

Queen's Birthday Concert Tenzin Choegyal The Queen’s Birthday Festival is delighted to bring Tenzin Choegyal to perform at the Dunolly Town Hall on Saturday 11th June at 2pm. Grammy nominated artist, composer and cultural ambassador Tenzin Choegyal is one of the world's finest musicians in the Tibetan tradition.

Through his music and warm explanations, Tenzin takes audiences on a musical journey which transcends cultural

boundaries, reveals ancient wisdoms and connects deeply to the wandering people of his homeland. Tenzin’s message is uplifting, and his obvious joyfulness is infectious.

This concert is made possible by the generous support of the local Dunolly newspaper “ The Welcome Record” a Q & A will be held after the show.

From the Editor’s Desk The Welcome Record Volunteers Volunteering can make a positive difference in both your life and the lives of those around you, as well as to your community. It can give you self-confidence, satisfaction and social contact in addition to the opportunity to use previously-established skills or to develop new ones.

Each week our volunteers work together to produce our issues; all have significant parts to play, ensuring that our paper is produced, both in hard copy and online.

The Welcome Record has been part of our community’s weekly routine since 1978 and over the years, has given many locals the opportunity to assist in its production.

Each of our volunteers has varied skills and without their valuable contribution, the paper wouldn’t exist.

The past couple of years has been challenging, as we have navigated the ever-changing COVID rules and regulations, also replacing office hardware and updating software packages.

We are always seeking new volunteers, and as some of the COVID restrictions ease, we look forward to new members joining our group.

Some changes are shortly being made to our opening hours, which will allow for more flexibility and better

access for general enquiries, contributions, advertisers and payments, in addition to more opportunities for volunteering.

Volunteer Week On Monday several of The Welcome Record volunteers travelled to Maryborough to celebrate National Volunteers Week at an event organised by Central Goldfields Shire Council.

Around 70 volunteers from various groups within the shire were treated with an afternoon tea at Railway Cafe & Tracks Bar to celebrate and recognise their dedication and commitment .

Tony Macer from Maryborough Volunteer Resource Centre (MVRC) delivered an informative speech regarding the organisation.

MVRC is a non for profit community group which promotes volunteering and supports local organisations in the Central Goldfields.

The Welcome Record Grant Scheme Just a reminder that our Grant Scheme is closing soon. If you’re a community organisation requiring funding there is still time to apply for a grant. Applications close Friday 4th June 2022.

We have been able to assist the local community with small grants this year and have a limited amount of funds remaining. All you need to do is apply in writing stating the amount required, purpose and date the funds are required by. Honouring the Volunteers at the RTC 2022

Most days at the RTC are busy while the bank is open, then traffic drops off until the office closes at 3.30pm. Our computers, which offer access to the Internet, are used regularly, along with our printers and photocopiers.

Remember to take advantage of the Centrelink connection in the Service Australia’s section of the office. This is a valuable facility, but will be closed if not used regularly.

On Fridays, the rostered volunteer bus driver picks up the key from the RTC office to drive the bus from the CFA garage to the RTC bus stop behind the office. The bus leaves promptly at 10am, returning between 12noon and 12:30pm. The RTC is looking for more drivers to add to the roster. More drivers will support the RTC to keep the service operating and allows volunteers to travel, visit family or take time out when ill.

These drivers do a sterling job driving those who need to go into Maryborough, for whatever reason, and bring them home safely each Friday. Some folks like to stay on to catch up with friends.

V/Line buses and trains are booked by our staff, ensuring a trip is paid for and ticketed before boarding the bus and train. Single tickets can be used on trams in cities, like Melbourne, for one hour on either side of your V/Line

journey. For a day return or date-to-date ticket, all day free bus or tram travel is available Here is an explanation of a date-to-date ticket — a date-to-date ticket used between midnight and 3am must be valid for the previous day. The ticket expires at 3am on the day following the ticket's expiry date. Another valuable service offered for the community in Dunolly.

For those looking for visitor information, the RTC has a bevy of booklets, maps and pamphlets on display, plus extra maps, like the fire collection maps when needed.

On top of all these services, the Maldon and District Community Bank — Bendigo Bank, is opened from 10am until 2pm — manned by customer service officers, like Melanie, who are friendly, helpful and go out of their way to assist with difficult queries.

The Dunolly RTC remains open due to the following; usage by the community and by having volunteer staff who work at the office each weekday, along with putting out the information trolley over the weekends.

Please look at the possibility of being a volunteer. We need people who are willing to be flexible and who have the appropriate driver’s qualifications for the Friday Community bus run. What's new on Broadway Railway Hotel The new owners of the Railway Hotel have been making some changes. Recently new signage adorned the building and a Bottle Shop opened with some exciting specials. The Bottle Shop is located to the left of the main entrance.

The next bonus, again from the state government, is a $250 bonus for going online and comparing energy providers. This starts July the first, and I’m happy to use my computer here at the Centre to do the work needed for you to pocket some cash. As always, I ask that you call the Centre to make an appointment.

Internet available at the Centre This week, the Centre internet is going to be upgraded to the NBN, so hopefully that will be smooth sailing and excellent service. If anyone in the community wishes to access the internet here, just bring a device and enjoy our lovely lounge area with tea/coffee facilities and a warm split system. Best view in town!

‘Stargazers’ Astronomy Club - coming soon!

I’m excited about this one... over the next few weeks, I will be looking into purchasing a telescope for the Centrethanks to funding from a Vic Health grant for Neighbourhood Centres in our region.

Get in touch if you too are an avid sky watcher, as you will have the opportunity to gaze up at planets, galaxies, and whatever else may be up there!

Coming up Soon The Whispering Weeders garden club will be visiting the Great Stupa in Marong on Monday May 30th, meeting at the Centre at 10am to carpool.

This peaceful place is not to be missed, and hosts a vegetarian cafe on site. All new Weeders are welcomed!

Gold Rush Progress Report

This year, we are starting off with music at the Golf Club on the Saturday night, with the other activities taking place on the Sunday in Gordon Gardens and also in Broadway, where many of the shops will be decorated in a Gold Rush theme.

Many of the attractions in the Gardens will focus on different aspects of our gold history, with displays and activities catering for all ages.

Plans for our Gold Rush are starting to fall into place, but of course, as the date is set for the 22nd and 23rd October, they still have some way to go. We have been pleased to see the enthusiasm within the wider community for this event, as so many have memories of past festivals and are keen to come on board. Due to the uncertainty of the past couple of years, we have purposely not planned a huge gathering for this year’s festival but intend that it grow and evolve from this into a successful annual event.

Coat Project @ Arts Hub

Catholic Church, Dunolly

Everybody needs a nice warm coat for the winter, so we are happy to present our first winter workshop with Cate Green, dressmaker, who will be teaching the skills to measure up for a pattern.

Choose a combination of 100% vintage wool blankets to suit you, cut out your pattern, and construct an original lined coat. The pattern will be simple, to suit people with minimum sewing skills and under Cates tutelage any skill set can be successful.

The two-hour lessons run for six weeks and at the end we will hold a celebratory lunch for the students. You can source your own blankets, any size, or Cate will have some for sale on first day.

We will send you out an email list of materials you may require or buy as you need. The fees are $60 for six weeks of lessons this can be paid straight into Dunolly Neighbourhood Centre’s bank account or paid weekly at lesson.

The pattern, which is yours to keep, will be $20 to $30 depending on size of pattern (paid when you receive pattern). Bring your own machine or hire at $5 per lesson. You will need a few other items and will receive an email with all details.

MDHS v-squad hits the road

Members of the Maryborough District Health Service (MDHS) vaccination team, also known as the v-squad, recently hit the road to visit residential aged care communities in Avoca, Dunolly and WattleRise Maryborough.

The team were tasked with the mission of giving local aged care residents a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine as well as their seasonal influenza (flu) vaccine.

“The team administered more than 100 vaccinations across the three locations in one day, which is an extraordinary effort,” said Heather Blazko, Associate Director of Nursing — Acute Services, Maryborough District Health Service.

“These vaccinations will help keep our aged care residents safe as we move into the winter months.

“It’s nice to be finishing our COVID-19 vaccination program back where we started in March last year, with the aim of protecting some of the most vulnerable members of our community,” she said.

As Victoria moves into winter, an additional booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people at higher risk of severe illness from COVID-19 who have already had a third booster dose.

The cold weather can make it easier for viral infection. It is also recommended that everyone over six months of age get an annual influenza shot ahead of the peak flu season, which generally runs from to September.

To get a COVID-vaccine or booster contact your local GP, pharmacy or larger state-run vaccination centre. To get your flu vaccine contact your local GP, pharmacy or the Central Goldfields Shire Council immunisation team.

Blue Tongue Lizard Tales Many lizards have lived in our back yard over the years and they are always welcome. One blue tongue spent an entire summer living in a drainage pipe near the back door. In the cool of the evening, Bob would often sit on the back veranda with a cold beer and a cigarette.

Over time, the blue tongue got used to him and became less timid. Bob began to talk to it and the lizard became friendlier and could be coaxed closer. It began to come out as soon as Bob sat down and started to share the tobacco smoke. It would open its mouth and Bob would blow the smoke in its general direction. This continued all summer, but if I, or someone else tried to join them, the lizard would disappear immediately.

Perhaps the lizard moved house over the winter, or perhaps it died of a cigarette — induced illness, or perhaps rain washed it out of the drain, we never knew.

Whatever its final fate, we never saw it again after that summer.

At Marion's place, she often sees blue tongues around the fruit which drops into her backyard. The peaches seem to be their favourite, but they eat many things, including the occasional over-ripe banana, which finds its way into her

yard. Marion's dog takes no notice of them, unlike mine, which is very territorial. And like many gardeners, Marion welcomes lizards into her space. Some people believe that if you have blue tongues, you won't get snakes.

Unfortunately, studies say that has no basis in fact. A pity, but blue tongues are nice to have in your yard anyway.

Stories from Cynthia Food deliveries are not very common in country towns but in the city, there seems to be a huge demand for take away meals delivered to the house. In order to complement her part time work salary, my Queensland daughter decided to apply for one of these jobs. The only food deliveries I knew of in my city-life days were the pizza ones, but now there are a number of companies; Uber Eats, Menulog, Door Dash and probably others. Daughter chose Door Dash and expected to wait a while to be called; however very soon after she was accepted and while she was busy cooking dinner, a call came to make a collection at McDonalds. Without even thinking, she grabbed her bag and dashed out the door. Halfway up the street, she realised she was wearing her reading glasses and her driving glasses were at home. Frightened to be late on her first job, she decided not to worry about it. After picking up the McDonalds’ order, she fumbled with her phone, to find the procedure to notify them that the order had been picked up. Then she needed her GPS to locate the address, but the GPS would not respond, so that meant using it through her phone. Although she connected it to hands-free, she was unable to read it in the dim light, so had to balance it on the gearstick panel. This friendly GPS then decided to take her on a long, lovely scenic route, obviously not the shortest way, as she recognised the tourist area. Finally, she was told she has arrived at her destination. By now it’s dark and there are no street lights, so she must park and walk along looking for a number, wearing the wrong glasses, then discovering it is the wrong street.

Back in the car, she resets the GPS and is taken round in circles, until she arrives in the correct street, but again no street lights or house numbers. It has now taken her over half an hour, when the estimated time was 15 minutes and

the food is now cold. Very nervously, she rings the doorbell, expecting to be told off for the lateness, but only receives a polite thank you. She then makes a dash for the car, in case she is chased when the food temperature is discovered. After that it takes a further five or so minutes to find out how to report back that the order has been delivered. By now she is beside herself with anxiety that such a simple task could have become such an ordeal.

My daughter decides that things must get better with practice, so she perseveres. One problem is that she only eats out at local restaurants, so has no idea where all these fast-food places are. The next one is KFC and she notices two other delivery people waiting for orders, holding insulated bags. Oh dear, she thinks, ‘where is my bag’? No wonder the food gets cold.

This place is in another dark street, with overgrown lawn and a broken window, which she finds a bit scary. As she is leaving, she then sees another KFC delivery arriving at the same house, so decides to put her foot down and not stop to ask. She finishes up doing seven deliveries in 2 ½ hours, most of them in heavy rain, for the grand sum of $64.

Quirky Treasures from Dunolly’s Colourful Past Dunolly attracts visitors from far and wide, many of whom are fascinated by our rich history. Sometimes, due to time factors and limited opening hours of public buildings, there is still so much that they do not get to discover.

Havilah Volunteers Needed Volunteering for an aged care provider with the outstanding reputation of Havilah is always going to be a personally rewarding experience. Havilah offers a huge range of volunteer roles and there is bound to be something of interest for everyone.

This week the Maryborough Volunteer Resource Centre is putting a spotlight on aged care volunteering at Havilah in an effort to help them re-establish their volunteer army which has been affected by the pandemic.

Executive Assistant, at Havilah, Kerri McInnes, said at its peak, the organisation had seen volunteer numbers reach around 120 people. “We are very grateful for the ongoing support of our volunteers. Unfortunately due to Covid-19 restrictions we have been unable to engage with our volunteers at the level we had previously prior to the pandemic. We recently launched our Havilah ‘Revival week’ where we have seen a return to our much-loved activities such as our local bus trip outings following the easing of some Covid-19 restrictions. Whilst some restrictions still remain in place for Aged Care, now is a great time for us to re-engage and re-build our volunteer base.”

Volunteers are able to assist in activities such as gardening, arts and crafts, fingernail painting, 1:1 chats with residents, happy hour serving of drinks, preparation and serving of high tea, reading the newspaper, driving of our minibus and shopping.

Sue Williams is a well-known familiar face at Havilah, having volunteered for almost 5 years. “Volunteering at Havilah is very rewarding, I really enjoy it. It is a great

feeling seeing the smile on the faces of our residents when they are enjoying their activities”.

Recollections of Life in Dunolly — Part 4 When television began in Australia in the 1950s, the TV shops went all out with the displays in their front windows.

We were able to all stand around or even take a seat and watch a special show on television. Some early purchasers of TV sets in Dunolly used to be kind enough to set their TV out on their front verandah and we, the neighbours, would all arrive with blankets to sit on the lawn and watch the TV. Being a bus traveller to secondary school in the late 1950s/early 1960s, I have memories of many great drivers who took us many different ways on our way to school, so that all the kids around the district could be picked up on the bus. There were about four buses that left from Dunolly and a few of those special drivers were Mr McRae, Happy Robertson, Doug Thomas, Mr Dowling and then Kevin Shiell, when our kids progressed to Tech in later years.

The Dunolly Town Hall was the place for much entertainment, especially prior to us all getting caught up with a TV set. If not being entertained by visiting artists, we often had concerts, amateur hours or a Saturday night movie. Mrs Davison from the café used to carry a tray of goodies up from her shop at half-time and we could buy an ice cream, lollies or drinks, or maybe buy a packet of Jaffas to roll down the floor after half-time.

ANZAC Day was always remembered with a tribute to all who had fallen, with a ceremony in the Town Hall after the ANZAC March through the main street, the Brass Band, Returned Soldiers, Guides, Scouts, Brownies and Cubs.

The Annual Flower Show was held every year in the Town Hall, also with prizes for the best of most things, flowers, cooking, sewing, art and painting competitions for primary school kids, etc. Mum (Hilda Bowman) took many prizes in flowers and cooking and I remember one day when I sure didn’t take the prize! I snuck up onto the table, sat on what I thought was a pile of tea-towels when, yikes, I’d squashed the puff pastry buns which were under the tea-towels. Oh my!

The Dunolly Girl Guides were started in 1953 with 12 eager recruits (one being my sister, Jan) under the tremendous leadership of Marge Linton. Initially they met for a short time in the old Fire Brigade Hall, which isn’t there these days. They then moved into the new Scout Hall when it was completed. We often had sleepovers there or camped in tents outside. There were people who agreed to be testers for the badges. Sad that Guides, Scouts, Brownies and Cubs are no longer in Dunolly, but it’s good that the hall that was built for them didn’t go to waste. So many wonderful memories of our time in the Guides with Marge Linton. Fifteen of us gained the distinction of Queen’s Guide and went down to Government House for the Award. Later on, the leaving age of Guides was lowered and this saw girls work through and gain their BP Award. I was proud of my daughter Michelle, gaining that Award.

Mataranka was the name of our campsite out in Goldsborough and we loved it. Prior to that we would set up campsite behind the Scout Hall from time to time.

At Christmas time, one of the dads would provide a big truck with bales of hay on the back. I played a piano accordion and we would sing Christmas Carols all around the town. In 1956, the Brownies were started by Mary Chennells and Wendy Gloury. I had the pleasure of being in the first group of Brownies. Phyllis Shay gave much of her time as a fantastic Brown Owl for many years. Our boys also enjoyed their time in Cubs and Scouts. Tom Linton will always be remembered for his gentle leadership of the Cubs.

Dunolly’s “Living Legend” Mr Jack Flett, joined us for Christmas dinner on Christmas Day on a few occasions. I would sometimes send him home with a plateful to have for tea. Wandering around a garage sale he had one time, it brought a smile when I saw a few of those plates for sale. After Christmas dinner, the kids would all be set to watch Uncle Jack, the Magician, as he performed his magic tricks. Jack used to love taking items down to Melbourne to sell to the city people. He had a lot of success from his sales of lavender from the Scent Farm.

My Dad left me a property out by the Scent Farm and from memory, as a kid I remember lots of lavender plants in that area … and the special spider orchids sometimes.

The day we were married, was July 1967, in Dunolly. It rained and of course, dear Wally Richards arrived to take photographs. Wal used to ride his bike everywhere from Maryborough to take wedding photos. Wal passed away a few years ago and there was an amazing exhibition of all his work in the Maryborough Town Hall. Something I am sorry I didn’t get to see. I was hoping they would produce a book with all his photos printed in it and sell it on behalf of a charity. So many memories. Hope you enjoy them and that they bring some memories back to some of you, as well as letting others know something of what Dunolly was like.

Deledio Reserve Fund Raiser The Deledio Reserve Sports Committee would like to thank Gaz Lavars for his wood raffle held at this week’s footy/netball home game.

Dunolly Bowling Club Last Wednesday 11th May, Avoca hosted the Winter Jackpot Pairs, Alan Weir and Barry Mortlock were the winners on the day. Central Goldfields Residents and Ratepayers Assoc. Inc. Have you submitted concerns or even read the Proposed Budget for 2022-23? www.engage.cgoldshire.vic.gov.au/proposedbudget2022 Council market this document as one of the most important documents for the Central Goldfields Shire.

Regardless of its accuracy, it is a guideline to our direction for the coming years and a document which gives us, the ratepayers, an indication as to our Council and Councillors' direction.

Over the past few years submissions have been presented with varied results, we expect this year to be no different. CGR&RAI has already engaged with Council on several issues and several of those issues we believe will be addressed when the draft is re-done and submitted for approval. Being part of this also informs the Council that the community is interested in our Shire's direction and with more participation by the community it could change from a Council marketing tool to an actual successful forecast for our Shire's direction.

One thing we do is to compare the Council's Financial Report with the Budget. These are two different documents which have cross references to each other — a very interesting exercise which is a huge task. If doing exercises like this helps to achieve a more complete Budget and a stronger direction, it is well worth it.

Council has decided to extend the submission time for the Budget to 20th May 2022. Thank you to them for deciding to extend the dates.

We believe submissions may be received right up until the Budget is tabled, however, to give your submission the best opportunity for investigation, submitting within the council's dates is highly recommended. Being part of the community is to participate. We also would like to acknowledge the huge amount of work our Council staff have done in compiling this and every Budget. Please show gratitude by assisting them to get this right.

On the subject of being part of the community, we have the Federal and State elections this year. We hear many different opinions and receive many different stories.

This year's elections (we believe) could possibly be the most important elections in our lifetime. With the issues which have arisen over the previous terms raising a lot of concern within the Australian and Victorian communities, your vote is important and every vote does make a difference.

How often do we hear 'My vote won't make a difference', or 'I am going to put in an informal vote'? How wrong can one be? Over previous elections how many seats have been won by just a handful of votes? It could be your vote which tips those scales, so please do your research and make your vote count. We have arrived at this place in time with decisions made by formal votes. Informal votes do not steer our direction, nor remedy any concerns you have. Assistance is available should you need help to complete your ballot paper with the direction you wish. Please take the time to research and do your bit for our country's direction. Be part of it.

CGR&RAI have concerns about how many community projects have been started and not completed. Obtaining grants is one thing, but completing the project appears to be another. A few issues active and not complete at present are the Carisbrook levee, Dunolly Mosaics, Book Seats and Gordon Gardens to name a few.

There are many projects currently up for public comment and we encourage you to participate in all of these. By participating we are taking responsibility in these projects and by Council listening and acting, they are giving the

community ownership of part of it. This makes each a community project and not just a Council project. Dunolly Football Netball Club Football Report Junior Football Report: Well, we came up against Natte on Saturday, and we were in for a good chance of a win!

The team spent most of the game in front, feeding each other with a strong desire to play a fair and decent game.

Grace Freemantle played her 50th club game (25 for Netball, 25 Football) and carried herself with honour. We had Riley Penny on permit, what can I say, just loving the ground, kicking massive goals. Liam Forster (joint Captain alongside Isaac Scott) was unfortunately out for the day, but the whole team rallied well, and you can see them starting to gel together as a real team. Natte played brilliantly too.

They came home strong in the last quarter to pip us at the post by 11 points in the end. It was disappointing being so close, but we will learn and we will come out stronger. I really couldn't be prouder of the effort and team spirit put in by both sides. Dunolly 6.3.39 Natte 7.8.50.Great effort all round.

Hayden Wellard, U14.5 Coach Football Report from 7th May 2022: Heading to Avoca saw our Senior group have a massive opportunity to win two games on the trot for the first time since 2016. Much the same as the week prior, v. Lexton, the boys jumped out of the gates raring, kicking out to a three goal advantage midway through the first term. A lapse towards the back half of the quarter meant we went into quarter time with just a 1-point lead. A very 50/50 affair in the second term saw Avoca kick 1.6 to our 1.3, giving Avoca a 2 point buffer at the main break. Our back line stood tall during the quarter, stopping repeat entries and applying enough pressure to not allow Avoca to kick away. Our first two third quarters of the season had let us down immensely, so we had a major focus on turning this around and coming into three-quarter time with the lead.

Although not our finest display, we were able to kick 3 goals to 2 through Bailey Wingrave, Xav Ryan and Toby Johnston to lead by 3 points.

For the second week in a row, a challenge had been set at the final break. The game continued to sway during the last quarter, a combined 8-goals kicked for the term. We were on the ropes with 2-minutes to go before a ripping Toby Johnston tackle and 55-metre goal gave us the lead. The boys took valuable time off the clock before hearing the final siren sound. 11.16-82 to 12.13-85 victors. Best players for the day: Bailey Goodwin, Jamie Townsend, Oscar Keogh, Bailey Wingrave, Adal Zuk and Mitchell Goodwin.

Heading into our clash with Natte we knew the chances of being 3-1 were massive and this was our most important game to date so far. With plenty of changes to the side and with six out, we knew our backs would be against the wall.

The first quarter was a hot footy, with no side gaining too much momentum. The play of Lachlan Tranter and debut Benny McKinley was outstanding and we led the Swans by 5 points at the first break. Very much the same in the second quarter as the Swans outscored us and we trailed by 16 points heading into the main break with a lot of confidence. From then on it was all one way traffic, and credit to Natte for the way they put their foot down to run away 115 point winners.

There's a lot for us as a senior group to work on, and at 2 wins / 2 losses, our season is still very much alive. Our

goal kickers were Toby Johnston on 2 and Joel Fisher kicking 1. Best ons were judged as Tranter, McKinley, Wingrave, Max Ryan, Crowley and Bradley on debut.

Massive week this week as we take on Maldon in their home deck.

Rhys Brown, Coach I am Ric Lang, local business owner of True Blue Floors and proud President of the Dunolly Football Netball Club. My passion for the Club began when my daughters began playing netball. I have been a long-time sponsor and wanted to ensure the Club grows and continues to be a great place for netballers and footballers of the future.

The atmosphere at the Club is amazing. The Football and Netball teams, families and supporters put in a great deal of time behind the scenes to make everything as seamless as possible. There are so many jobs, some small, some large- but none less important than the other. We are always looking for new volunteers and some of our volunteers are stretched a little thin at the moment. Many hands make light work and if we all share the workload it creates a touch of magic.

Our Sponsor Day went off with a bang. A great feel around the Club with new and old members there for the day and lots of sponsors. Coming up, we have our Annual Goods and Services Auction on 28th May, after our next home game against Carisbrook starting at 7pm at DFNC Club rooms. Our volunteers will be making food available for purchase at the canteen. Any donations would be much appreciated. This event not only goes towards the running of the Club (completely volunteerbased) but also to the improvement of the facilities for future generations. Hope we can see you there. DNFC Goods & Services Auction This year’s DFNC goods and services auction will be held in the DFNC clubrooms from 6:30pm on Saturday 28th May. This will be a catered event with bar facilities available and raffles throughout the night.

This event is the DFNC’s major fundraiser for season 2022 and is pivotal for the club to provide equipment, services and assist in the day to day running of our club.

With fundraising well underway for our new pavilion, these funds will continue to strengthen the club and support the community in years to come.

Dunolly Football Netball Club Netball Report 14th May The 11s girls started the day off strong again. Great to see the girls putting what they learn at training into play.

We won the game 12-1. Mia, Taylah and Melody were awarded the incentives.

The 13s showed some great determination and teamwork fighting their way back from an 8-goal deficit at half time to only lose 20-24. Bakery incentive went to Charlotte and Club went to Ava. 15s started the game with a bang and were unstoppable in the first quarter. Natte lifted their game and drew back even.

Dunolly steadied and took the game out 22-17. Incentive went to Chelsea. The 17s girls came up against a very strong Natte side. The girls showed some great passages of play, but unfortunately Natte were just too strong. We went down 6-37. Teagan got the All Day on Broadway incentive and Chloe got club incentive C-Grade had a tough day out.

Natte’s great defensive pressure made it hard for Dunolly to score. The girls fought all the way to the end but went down 60-2. The club incentive went to Nicole and the Welcome Stranger award went to Lara.

B-Grade had a very physical game. Natte got the jump early, but Dunolly improved as the game went on, showing some great passages in the attack end. We went down 16-68. Club award went to Sarah and JM Leech award went to Amber.

In the A- Grade game the score did not reflect how well the girls played. The girls showed some great defensive pressure and some lovely plays in the attack end. We

went down 27-73. Club awards went to Avril and Briella and the Railway Hotel award went to Kate.

Congratulations to Annabel Fitt who played her 50th club game on Saturday.
