Now that the colder weather is upon us it won’t be long before winter sniffles or worse, a bout of the flu takes hold. The body is not as effec ve at figh ng a virus when cold air enters the nose and upper airways, so viruses such as the common cold, the flu and COVID-19 o en spread more easily in the winter because you've essen ally lost half of your immunity just by a drop in temperature.

But did you know that Central Goldfields Shire Council run an Immunisa on Service? It began in March 2022 and brought together exis ng immunisa on services that were being conducted from both the Maternal and Child Health and Compliance teams.

Community sessions are regularly run in Maryborough, Dunolly and Talbot. Dunolly sessions commenced in September last year, and now run monthly from the Senior Ci zens building. The service also runs workplace flu programs and school immunisa on sessions. There is an online booking system which many people like, as well as having a direct number for those who like to book over the phone. Bookings are preferred for all sessions. Book online via email below or, contact Council’s Immunisa on Services team on 0428 894 724

immunisa on@cgoldshi re.vic.gov.au

Some ‘fun facts’ about the service:

In 2022, they conducted 1606 immunisa ons to 0 -6 year olds, 1295 to adolescents and 327 adult vaccines. They offer all immunisa ons that are listed on the State immunisa on schedule except for Zostavax. This includes all childhood vaccines, as well as those for adults such as flu and pneumococcal.

The staff are absolutely

lovely and consists of a Coordinator, three casual Immunisa on nurses and Branch Sta on Officer (BSO - an employee who holds a Bachelor of Paramedic Science and relevant work experience or other qualifica on approved by the Commissioner).

I recently had my Flu jab in Maryborough. I am not a fan of needles and

WORKS UPDATE

have been known to pass out (yup), but this was by far one of the be er experiences I’ve had ge ng an immunisa on. Please note that Victorian Councils are currently not able to offer COVID-19 vaccines due to insurance constraints, but they would love to!

Works to construct a new 250 metre footpath along Broadway - from Daly Street to the railway line, are now underway. Construc on is expected to take four weeks - weather depending. The project is being delivered as part of Council's 2022-2023 Budget.

Everyone is welcome to join our Councillors for a coffee at the Bull and Mouth Hotel, 119 High Street, Maryborough on Wednesday 31 May from 10am to 12noon. Meet and greet with our Councillors and chat about the issues important to you.

PROPOSAL TO UNITE AND HELP SERVE OUR COMMUNITY

Our Anglican, Uni ng and Catholic Chris ans in Dunolly are discerning how we can best con nue to serve our parishioners and community into the future.

At St. Mary’s, due to ageing and declining members and increasing costs for insurance, services and maintenance, it is becoming more challenging to maintain our church. One op on to be considered is to use just one of the three churches in Dunolly. I would be interested to hear the views of former parishioners and Dunolly and District residents on this proposal.

If you wish to contact Mr. Long about this proposal, please leave your name and phone number with The Welcome Record and we will forward your details.

Did you watch the Corona on of King Charles last Saturday? As everyone seemed to be saying - you can't beat the Bri sh when it comes to spectacles. People are nit-picking of course. They seem to forget that the King and Queen are elderly people at the end of what must have been a stressful me. I reckon all they wanted was to go home, get onto their jamas and slippers and relax.

It is fascina ng how many women wear big hats to these sorts of events. Don't they realise that they block the view of the people behind? On this occasion however, they were all outshone by Katy Perry, who seemed to be wearing a satellite dish on her head and needed a periscope to see where she was going.

Had the tree removers in during the week to tame the jungle my garden was becoming. A dead melaleuca was taken out at the back. I did not realise how much room it had actually spread over. There is now a very large empty space where it had been. I wonder how many local cats will leave their footprints on the nice new concrete footpath. Cats do seem to be a racted to wet cement.

I am s ll trying to get the rich creamy froth on my coffee made from those sachets. I have tried many sugges ons given by friends, but s ll end up disappointed.

I checked my Ramble archives actually several small photo albums with the pieces cut out and put in the pockets. The first official RAMBLE was printed on 27th of August, 2014. I wonder how many mes things have been repeated since then.

On 16 May 2023 the Council called a special mee ng. The two main items on the agenda for this mee ng were the 2023/24 Dra Budget and also to approve a $200K increase in the Maryborough Sta on visual display.

The 2023/24 Dra Budget is an 86-page document, and only 81 of those 86 pages were made available for viewing.

Since 2018, CGR&RAI have been reques ng more community consulta on be used throughout the Dra Budget process. This is the Council report on our concern.

CONSULTATION/COMMUNICATION

“All internal service owners have been consulted during the produc on of the Budget. Consulta on with the councillors was undertaken during several workshops, and an online presenta on will be conducted with community consulta on and feedback open un l 9 June 2023.”

Looking forward to that community consulta on. The Dra Budget (from our assessment) reads of tough mes, however Flynn ward has nearly $850K men oned for the Deledio Netball courts (a Labor Party elec on promise), $150K Gordon Gardens Masterplan (carry over), $200K Rene Fox Gardens toilet refurbishment (carry over) and $100K for Dunolly Town hall design and scoping (new item).

One disturbing projec on from Council on page 61 of this Dra Budget, was Targeted Performance Indicators - Service. In 2023 governance at 51%, and planning approvals within relevant me at 50% also in 2023.

To see Council forecast their target on these two key performance items in 2027 s ll have governance at 51% and planning at 50%, clearly tells us Council is more than happy for our Shire being well below the State average. Maybe this could be a reason our Shire cannot retain staff. Are our staff being expected to work well below State standards?

CGR&RAI encourage all community members to download this Dra Budget and submit your concerns pertaining to this document. The second item is the $200K blowout for the Maryborough Sta on visual display. According to a Council representa ve “a considered proposal from well-creden aled experts which our officers have had carefully assessed about the case for added investment which they believe will create a truly world class experience and capture the global visitors we are seeking.” Please feel free to make your own minds up on this one. Looking forward to seeing it eventually finished, but obviously not on budget now Please look a er each other and stay safe.
