Central Goldfields Shire hosted two food network mee ngs to bring people together, people in the community and organisa ons with an interest in food.

Everyone has to eat, so it interests us all, one way or another.

The keynote speaker was Lou Risdale from the Ballarat Laneway project.

Lou was inspired by the Food is Free movement that started in America.

In eight years, the Laneway has established an open space community garden that holds regular workshops, has over 40 garden beds, provides a drop off point for food waste that fuels their compost making, worm farms and has a surplus free food point where people can access freshhomegrownproduce.

The network mee ngs were a catalyst for ge ng people together to talk about a broad

Bealiba Bowls

What a sight we were entertained with, this week. An errant bowl disappeared under the stack of chairs never to be seen again.

All of a sudden we saw two legs in the air poking out from under the chairs then Heather’s body appearing as she shimmied out, bowl in hand. Well done Heather!!

Pairs night saw some very close results but it was congratula ons to the teams of Malcolm Campbell & Gary McClelland along with Shirley Coburn & Ian Lovel, both teams scoring two wins.

We also welcomed Stephen Manning, a visitor from Melbourne. Stephen bowled well for his first me but paired with his Mum, they didn’t manage to post awin. WehopetoseeyoubackagainsoonStephen. Happy Bowling. Chris Evans

Heart Health Check

Acoali on of key Australian heart organisa ons congratulated the Australian Government for taking strong ac on to protect Australian hearts by extending the Medicare Heart Health Check for two years with at least 250,000 Australians expected to take up a Check in that me frame.

The coali on includes the Na onal Heart Founda on of Australia, the Australian Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilita on Associa on, Baker Heart and Diabetes Ins tute, Australian Cardiovascular Alliance, Australian and New Zealand Society of Cardiac and Thoracic Surgeons, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Ins tute, Heart Support Australia and Hearts 4 Heart. The Heart Health Check was first introduced in 2019 and since then has been taken up by more than 450,000 Australians, saving thousands of lives.

Tanya Hall CEO and founder of leading pa ent organisa on Hearts4heart said:

Hearts4heart welcomes the con nua on of the MBS Heart Health Check, which is a vital step towards improving the heart health of Australians. This commitment to heart health will undoubtedly help save lives and reduce the burden of heart disease in our communi es.”

Disaster seems to have followed me around this week.

I ventured out for the first me for quite a while to do grocery shopping at Anna's. Had a fair trolley full by the me I had finished.

Wai ng at the checkout, I moved about an inch to the le to let someone pass when disaster struck. A tall box on the top of a stand suddenly flung itself onto the floor.

It was full of small packs of lollies which sca ered over all over the place - Anna quickly gathered them and put them in a basket. She has enough to do without that. The second was yesterday, when I had a flood in the laundryandthetoiletandthepassage.

Serves me right for not checking for things that would block the plug hole.

It took a lot of unnecessary work to clean it up, it cleaned out under the washing machine though!

I see the yellow peril near the bakery has been redecorated to fit in with the heritage of the street. Those bright pink bollards really blend in.

I am fascinated by the deodorant that promises to make one's underarms so er. Who has hard underarms??

Dunolly Golf Club

A wonderful day presented itself for the May monthly medal and a small but enthusias c band of golfers took part.

Shenae Hunt con nued on her winning way, winning the women’s event by a considerable margin from Jenny Lovel, making her first appearance this year. In the men’s sec on, Ian Arnold returned to form to defeat Darren Hunt by three shots, with Josh Hunt a further four off the pace.

Nearest the pins went to Jenny Lovel on the 18th, Shenae on the 13th, and Darren on the 12th. This Saturday sees the staging of the Bill Willmo Championship.

This is our first Board Event for the year. It is a Stableford compe on over 18 holes, and it should be a great day.

We are really keen to see as many players as possible a end, especially those who have not yet been able to make it this year. The Willmo family have contributed greatly to our club over many years, and it would be a shame if our numbers were low for the event.

All are most welcome, including all injured and recovering members and friends. Please bring a plate to share, and let’s make it a fantas c day.

The Dunolly Country Market is a couple of weeks away, so please get yourselves ready. Take a stall, if not, make sure you a end. Place this event as a MUST - tourism is very important. There has been some concern around Council's lack of informa on being placed out to the locals. Reports are that the Council Facebook page is becoming a social page, and not addressing actual infrastructure or development concerns.

CGR&RAI understand that vaccina ons and social messages are very important, however, knowing what is going on in our Shire is also important. Un l Council understands that the community needs more than social reports, we ask you keep in touch withtheCounciloffice54610610,orcontactyour local elected representa ve.

On 31st May, 2023 there will be the second 'Coffee with the Councillors' to be held at the Bull and Mouth Hotel in Maryborough from 10am to 12noon. If you are unable to a end, please email your quesons in and ask someone who is a ending to listen for your ques on.

h ps://www.facebook.com/feed_story_share/? story_id=620637750095188

The last ‘Coffee with the Councillors’ was a coffee with the Mayor. Well done to our Mayor for a ending and running that event. There are s ll several answers outstanding from that mee ng in February and

wehopethoseques onswillbeanswered.Twothat come to mind are the planning situa on (from Dunolly residents), and also Ranger behaviour re animals, impounding and costs.

It is good that Councillors have taken this step. Quarterly listening posts were introduced by the former Administrators when they cancelled ques on me at mee ngs, ci ng that the same ques ons were being asked and that it was non-produc ve. However other than a couple of wards, these quarterly listening posts have been missing. More public consulta on is most welcome.

With winter quickly upon us and the roads in the condi on they are in, CGR&RAI ask you to add that few extra minutes to your journey and drive very carefully. Not only the potholes and edges, but roadside debris also is a very concerning. In all shires there are Council roads and State roads. Please be aware of which road is controlled by which body. Netball Report

11’s - The girls started our day on a great note. Each of them put into prac ce things we have prac ced at training and came out very confident.

We won the game 13-1. It was a great team effort but incen ves went to Natalie, Ruby and Alanah.

13’s - No game

17’s- It was a very scrappy start for both teams with not many goals shot in the first quarter. Both teams se led in the 2nd and we saw a much nicer game of netball.

Dunolly came out strong in the 2nd half and played some great netball all Around to come away with the win. 20-10. Incen ves were awarded to Teagan and Chloe.

C-Grade - The ladies stepped out against a very strong Trentham ou it.

They fought hard all day and never gave up but unfortunately Trentham were Too strong. We went down 5-44. The incen ve was awarded to Katherine.

B-Grade - It was nail bi ng game from the first whistle. With it being a couple of goals in it the whole game.

We had a great 2nd quarter and managed to sneak away to a 4 goal lead.

Trentham managed to peg there way back and although we put in a tremendous effort we went down by 3 goals. Losing 31-28.

The incen ve went to Ma sse this week.

A-Grade also had a ght game with both teams demonstra ng some solid defensive pressure. We went into the 2nd half 3 goals up.

Our 3rd quarter wasn’t the best and Trentham capitalised on this taking a 4 Goal lead going into the last.

It was a low scoring quarter and we managed to peg back a few goals but unfortunately le our run too late going down 28-30.

Incen ve went Ash.
