Hawea has the only community owned centre in the QLDC area. It has been built up from small beginnings through the passion of community spirited folk. The recent redevelopment has resulted in a high quality function centre that will serve the community for many years to come. The new library space has been welcomed by locals along with sporting clubrooms, meeting and function rooms. The ongoing costs associated with the running of this venue benefit from these fundraising initiatives which are essential for the viability of this centre. On Friday May 9, at 7.30pm, there will be an opportunity to catch a glimpse of “The different worlds of snow and ice”. This is a rare opportunity to hear from two highly respected gentlemen in their respective fields of expertise. Wanaka photographer and filmmaker Richard Sidey has formed his career in photographing the Polar Regions over the past decade. In a presentation filled with photography and video, Richard will share his stories and experiences from the remote northern landscapes of Svalbard, Greenland, Iceland, Arctic, Canada and Russia,

the isolated southern islands of South Georgia and the Falklands to the icy wilderness of Antarctica. He can offer advice to those interested in travelling to these regions and will share his firsthand account of the changes he has witnessed over a decade of warming.

Peter Wardell will share a behind the rings perspective of the life of winter athletes at the top of their game. As the first contact for our guests on the mountain we need a new Carpark Supervisor who is passionate about providing excellent guest service and motivated to inspire a team of 8 to do the same!
