WISHING YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! MAY GOD BLESS YOU WITH GOOD HEALTH AND HUGE WEALTH IN 2015

Ten Wanaka children in the Family Works Buddy Programme are waiting for caring adults to volunteer as their mentors. Local co-ordinator Jacqui Henson-Cubie says people often make New Year resolutions to undertake voluntary work but that all too often that promise is not fulfilled. “Well, here’s one very rewarding role that’s also a load of fun,” she said. The Buddy Programme has been enriching the lives of children aged between 4 – 12 years in the Otago region for over 20 years. The Wanaka Family Works Buddy Programme aims to improve children’s lives with friendship, fun and encouragement of positive interests, attitudes, values and behaviour.

The programme matches each child to a carefully selected trained adult volunteer.

Adult volunteers are recruited to offer a couple of hours each week to befriend and support a child on outings/activities. The children come from a variety of backgrounds and have a wide range of needs. Including being away from extended family members, parental separation or being affected by disability or loss.
