4 Wanaka A &P Show 201 Country comes to town this weekend with the 77th annual Wanaka A&P Show.

The Showgrounds will come alive with the best of rural life this Friday and Saturday with livestock and farm machinery, plus fashion stalls, theme park rides and live music.
Jam-packed with family entertainment, the Show’s beloved novelty events like the famous Jack Russell race and sheaf tossing return again this year.
Olympic medallists Sarah Walker and Lisa Carrington are the guest judges for the Beef and Lamb NZ Golden Lamb Awards, aka the Glammies, and television personality and radio host Marcus Lush opens the Show on Saturday.

1. A grey coloured Kona mountain bike was stolen from Kowhai Drive in Wanaka. The bike has a distinctive grip that is pink in colour. 2. It seems that the Wanaka police are on the brink of solving a case whereby a necklace was stolen from Chapter 5 in the Pembroke Mall. This was all down to the help of CCTV. 3. We have had reports of “boy racerâ€? activity at the junction between Gladstone Rd, Greys Lane and Kane Road. Unsightly tyre marks have been found on the road. I personally went to a crash on State Highway 6 just past the junction with Riverbank Road heading towards Cromwell. In this instance a young learner driver was transporting her friends home after a party in the early hours of Sunday morning. She lost control left the road and rolled the vehicle in a paddock. The three young occupants escaped with minor injuries. I spoke to the parents of one of the occupants in this crash and they raised an issue with me that concerned me and the parents. They told me that some young drivers think by taking drunk friends home they are doing a good thing. The answer is plain and simple - the restrictions on learner and restricted drivers are there for a reason. They are there to help inexperienced drivers get proper safe instruction while they learn how to drive. If people are drunk they should get a fully licensed sober driver to take them home or get a taxi. 5. At 4.38am on Sunday morning I apprehended a 19 year old drink driver outside the Wanaka police station. She was driving towards me in the dark with no lights on. She was breath tested and blew 714 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The adult level is 400. She faces a court appearance and her driving licence is suspended. 6. Last Monday at around 5.22pm a tourist pulled out of the junction at State Highway 6, State Highway 84 and Riverbank Road. He turned right into the right hand lane. He then pulled into the left hand lane but did not see a Toyota Hilux and hit the side of it. The Hilux deviated left on impact just managing to straighten it up but scraped the front of an electrical van that was at the Riverbank Road junction. Great driving from the Hilux driver prevented the occupant of the electrical van becoming seriously injured. This particular junction is hazardous - be careful when you negotiate it.
