Celebrating nine years
What does it take to build thriving communities in a rapidly changing world? That’s the question at the heart of Wao Summit 2026, returning from 27–31 October for its ninth year. Over five days, the Summit brings together internationally recognised speakers, local experts and innovators alongside community and national leaders to explore practical ideas that can help our region and all of New Zealand navigate change with confidence. From learning what nature can teach us to exploring better business, healthier buildings and stronger local food systems, each themed day offers inspiring conversations, practical experiences and real-world solutions. This year, Rippon Hall becomes the home of Wao Summit, hosting keynote sessions and gathering spaces, alongside an award-winning exhibition by acclaimed photographer Camilla Rutherford.
Field trips, films and immersive experiences complete a programme designed to connect people with ideas, place and one another. Programme Director Monique Kelly says this year’s Summit has been designed for a time when people are looking for hope, practical ideas and meaningful connection. “We’re navigating change in different ways. We want people to leave feeling informed, connected and inspired, with ideas they can apply in their own lives, businesses and communities.”
