The current Lifepak 12s are about 7 years old and are used on a daily basis to monitor a patient’s heart rhythm, blood pressure and heart rate etc. The new Lifepaks have several new features such as keeping track of a patient’s temperature and the capability to transmit ECG’s directly to a specialist in hospital for advanced interpretation.
The cost of a Defibrillator is about $22,000 each, and the Manikin will cost around $25,000.
To help keep the staff at St John current with their Clinical Procedures, a new Advanced Life Support manikin is needed. Such a manikin can simulate a vast variety of cases that ambulance crews may encounter, from cardiac arrest to breathing difficulties and can even simulate vomiting. This type of manikin is invaluable and will
St John has received $10,998 from the Central Lakes Trust and is currently waiting for replies from other local trusts. While the local St John Area committee will fund any deficit, it would welcome any contributions from the people of Wanaka. Unlike the other Emergency Services, St John receives no funding for equipment from the government and must rely on the local community’s generosity.
