avalanche dogs
Aspiring Avalanche Dogs is a non-profit organisation and has been registered with Charities Services since 2010. As members of NZLandSAR, the organisation’s four teams provide a rapid response avalanche search dog service to the Southern Lakes Region and beyond. As a volunteer organisation, Aspiring Avalanche Dogs relies on fundraising, sponsorship and community grants in order to operate and ensure the succession of both dogs and handlers into the future. If buried in an avalanche without the correct equipment, training and companions, an av-dog team is your best chance of survival. Based at Treble Cone with their own skidoo, kennels and shipping container to store rescue equipment, they are close to Aspiring Helicopters and in the perfect location to deploy with haste when the need arises.
Aspiring Avalanche Dogs’ sixth annual Heliski raffle will be drawn on Friday 11th August at 6.30pm at Kai Whakapai. Harris Mountain Heliski and Southern Lakes Heliski have both provided one four-run heliski voucher. For your chance to win, raffle tickets can be purchased for only $5 at Racer’s Edge. There will be a few for sale on the night but don’t leave it too late as they will be limited! With support from sponsors and a host of local businesses, there will also be an auction and spot prizes to be won. The fun begins with happy hour and music from 5.00pm, spot prizes from 6.00pm and the auction at 6.45pm.
