The Rotary Club of Wānaka’s New Year Book Sale will take place over three days next week (4 - 6 January).

The annual book sale has traditionally attracted hundreds of people to the Lake Wānaka Centre in search of a great read at a bargain price.

Rotary Club of Wānaka president Richard Wallace said the Club has a stockpile of books which were collected earlier in the year.

'We have thousands of books which will be for sale next week,' Richard said.

The books have been categorised to make browsing easy and the majority of books are priced at two dollars.

Some newer books and special interest books are a little more expensive.

'It’s a big job to categorise and price but well worth it when we see the response and the funds we can raise for the community,' Richard said.

MY COMMUNITY NEWS Volunteer at Warbirds Over Wanaka Did you know you can be part of this renowned event? We rely on volunteers to help make this show a success and we might just have the perfect volunteer role for you!

Warbirds Over Wanaka is a 3 day International Airshow. A biennial event over the long Easter weekend, with 50,000 people expected to make the pilgrimage to Wanaka for their weekend of excitement.

“You must have been doing this forever.”

When Sharon Kirk heard this above the background roar of planes, she knew she had found her perfect way of contributing to the Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow. She also chuckled since it was her first time volunteering as the Aviation and Market Stalls Facilitator.

Sharon’s passion to give back to her Wanaka community led her to this role that is ideally suited for her personality and background. Sharon assists vendors with pre-show set-up and manages

Silent Auction winners announced It is a pleasure to announce that the winner of the silent auction for the pair of Grebes sculpted in stainless steel have gone to Mrs Marilyn Barlow of Wanaka.

Marilyn celebrated the occasion at two levels, firstly at now being the proud owner of these, but even more so that she had been able to contribute and support a conservation project she feels passionate about and that gives pleasure to so many.

The Grebe project is about a rare and threatened native species, but also it is being used to draw the attention of all who view and use Lake Wanaka that as we seek to secure this species, in this doing we secure the health of the lake. The project is managed entirely by volunteers and funded from donations. Each year

“People come from all over the world for the show. I do what I can to ensure vendors and attendees have a great event, return and tell their friends.
