It’s nearly time once again for the traditional New Year’s Eve celebrations on the lakefront – all free to enjoy! Organised by Queenstown Lakes District Council on behalf of locals and visitors, things kick off at 2.00pm with family-friendly entertainment down at the Dinosaur Park including roaming entertainers, face painting, a bouncy castle and fun games. Two great bands, Superficial and Wānaka Project, take to the stage in the spectator-only Ardmore Street layby from 8.00-10.45pm. Then headliners The Mandates get everyone pumped for a spectacular fireworks display at midnight before finishing their set at 1.00am.

A roof so safe, even Santa takes a break.

A separate dance stage features Red Frogs DJs followed by DJ Jordi either side of the fireworks.

Merry Christmas & Happy 2026!

Don’t fancy the crowds? Why not grab a blanket and watch the fireworks from Lismore Park. As in previous years, there’ll be safe zones in town from 29 December through to the main event thanks to the awesome Red Frogs volunteers. And don’t forget that Wānaka’s CBD is alcohol-free round-the-clock from 6.00am Christmas Day until 6.00am on 6 January. QLDC would like to thank local suppliers, security and traffic management contractors, emergency services and Red Frogs NZ for helping stage this awesome event.
