‘Stars in Your Eyes’, Wanaka’s very own talent extravaganza, is celebrating its 26th annual show which is set to run once again on the 27, 28 and 29 September 2018 at the Lake Wanaka Centre. ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ is Wanaka’s longest running local show, raising funds for local schools for the development of music in our region. With a new line up of stars and also some new band members, this year’s show promises to wow audiences once again. Practice sessions are well under way, and our wonderful wardrobe volunteers are busy creating

some stunning outfits! This year’s show promises to be entertainment for all ages, with some big name stars taking to the stage. Which famous singers will be performing in ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ this year? Make sure you buy your ticket to find out! Asiatic lilies (with no aroma) and freesias are also available to purchase. The bulbs are always of high quality and sell for $10 per bag of four bulbs. Upper Clutha Lions supports youth in our district and also a variety of good causes. Last year funds from the sale of lily bulbs went to the NZ Life Education bus. Written by: Julie Parry The Upper Clutha Lakes Trust Board is working with the Million Metres Stream Project, which has created the Love Lake Wanaka crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for riparian planting in the Upper Clutha waterways. Crowdfunding makes it easy for people and businesses wanting to do good to contribute towards

restoring our community’s nationally important waterways. Te Kākano Aotearoa Trust and its amazing network of volunteers will carry out the actual planting. The first planting of 220 trees was completed on 21 July at the Glendhu Bay Wetland, a DOC reserve that drains an area of farmland and roadside runoff. Te Kākano is currently assessing future planting sites against

With funding for 184 metres already raised, the Trust is hoping to achieve its target of $60,000 by 30 September 2018 which will fund 465 metres of tree planting in 2019. The next Wanaka fundraising event for the Love Lake Wanaka campaign will be held on Thursday 23 August from 6.00pm at LaLaLand Lounge Bar and is supported by Cardrona Distillery, Relishes Café, Adam and Eve Bakery, Mediterranean Market and Print It. LalaLand Lounge Bar will donate $5 from every Cardona Distillery cocktail and $1 from every drink ordered throughout the night. During the week that was we have had plenty to keep us busy. The roads remain a priority for us and we have been keeping a close eye on them to keep everyone safe. On that note, we have caught three drink drivers this week, two of whom will be appearing in court and one was issued an infringement notice. The message here remains the same - if you are drinking, don’t drive. Another driver had his licence suspended for three months for excess demerit points. The team here have responded to a number of your calls about drivers on the road and their manner of driving. One of which related to a driver on the Cardrona Valley Road who was crossing the centre line and putting other lives at risk by some dangerous overtaking. This person was spoken to and issued with infringements. Our job can’t be done without your help so if you see someone driving in a manner that causes you concern please call 111 or *555. We do our utmost to catch up with these drivers so we appreciate your calls. For those of you keeping green and using solar energy, please keep an eye on your gear as we have had two reports this week of this kind of property being stolen. One being a solar panel from a campervan parked up outside the Wanaka Districts Club and a solar power unit which was outside a tent at the Albert Town Campground. If anyone knows anything about this please come and see us or give us a call. A vehicle was stolen in Upton Street during the weekend that had a large amount of tools in it. I understand it’s not always possible to remove your gear but where you can, remove any valuables from sight and secure your vehicle. A car load of people were spoken to after being involved in a head on crash with a taxi on Lake Hawea – Albert Town Road over the weekend. The driver in this instance was affected by alcohol and will be appearing in court for this. An investigation is underway to establish exactly what has happened.
