The Upper Clutha Hospice Trust (UCHT) and the Otago Community Hospice (OCH) are working in collaboration to meet the needs of the Upper Clutha community. All OCH services are provided free of charge and it costs approximately $175,000 to run the service each year for Central Otago residents. Approximately 67% of this is funded by the Southern District Health Board and the balance comes from your donations. In the Central Otago region, the Otago Community Hospice has three care coordinators, each with specialist skills in palliative care. Due to the generosity of the district and the hard work of all volunteers, the Upper Clutha Hospice Trust has already raised $170,000 towards Wanaka’s new residential care home. The new home will be a joint venture between Presbyterian Support Otago and Aspiring Lifestyle Retirement Village. The hospital will include rooms dedicated to hospice use – one for patients and one for family. Stage one of the large three-stage

residential care complex includes the Upper Clutha Hospice rooms. The Hospice Street Day Appeal was held in Wanaka last Friday; 50% of the $3066 raised will go directly to the Upper Clutha Hospice Trust. The annual Hospice Collection is organised by Freemasons throughout Otago as part of their community charitable work. Judy and Ed King (Lodge Wanaka) who organised Friday’s collection, were delighted by the response.
