Leo Club members recently sorted 64kgs of foreign, predecimal and current coins to be sent to the Foundation of Heads Up for Kids - a unique collection asking New Zealanders to donate old decimal and pre-decimal New Zealand currency and all foreign money which is then redeemed for New Zealand dollars and used to fund education programmes for young New Zealanders who would otherwise not get the opportunity. Wanaka Recycling + gloves + pliers + heaps of patience = 8000 Kan tabs. Another NZ Lions incentive providing funds for the Kidney Kids foundation. So far the Leos have collected 13,000 Kan tabs. Wanaka Leo Club President Harry Hughes is looking forward to celebrating with the Leo club members the first year of service to community.
