Audi Quattro Winter Games NZ are spearheading a diverse programme aimed at involving school students in this month’s event. Schools Project Manager Jo Guest said there had already been an excellent response from local schools including Tarras School and Makarora Primary. “The concept is to create even greater community spirit during the Games.” Initiatives included a poster design competition with the top two entries to be printed as a poster. All entries will be available to see next week on the festival pages of the Games website www.wintergamesnz.kiwi. Top international and Kiwi athletes are visiting schools and students are also participating at the opening ceremony at Coronet Peak this Friday, medal
ceremonies in downtown Queenstown and Wanaka and the closing ceremony at Cardrona on Sunday 30th. Winning athletes will be signing posters after the award ceremonies in Wanaka and Queenstown. Young skiers are being urged to enter the Junior Interfield races at The Remarkables on 23 August. Winter Games NZ are supporting Snow Sports NZ and the Queenstown Alpine Ski Team who are running the event as part of a national junior series. “These friendly races are for first-timers as well as experienced ski racers aged from 6 to 16,” said Jo. “Racing will be followed by an official awards ceremony and family fun day in Queenstown using the same stage as Winter Games NZ medallists.”
