The Waiorau Nordic Sports Club The Waiorau Nordic Sports Club has recently changed its name from the Wanaka Nordic Ski Club. The change was made to better represent the broad interests of its members in many types of Nordic (travelling on snow) sports and the growing spread of membership around New Zealand and overseas. The club has taken on some of the responsibilities previously held by the recently dissolved body NZNSDA (New Zealand Nordic Sports Development Association). This new role of assisting with the development of Nordic Sports (XC skiing, biathlon, winter triathlon) will be in joint partnership with the Snow Farm and other bodies with an active interest in these sports.
Club members are also involved in national qualifications for teaching, coaching and unit standards. The club is seen as the hub of users at the Snow Farm which is now a community owned facility. Snow Farm events such as the Winter Games, Merino Muster, Winter Triathlon and Secondary School Championships are supported and organised by club member volunteers. Other club activities include bbqs, overnight hut trips, fundraising, working bees and holiday ski camps. The club welcomes new members. The club AGM will be held at the Snow Farm on Sunday 28 July at 2pm.
