If you have young children, you have probably visited an Upper Clutha mainly music session in the past decade. We offer children aged 0-5 and their caregivers a weekly music and movement session, followed by morning tea and playtime – a great chance for both kids and parents to connect. We’ll mark our anniversary on Queen’s Birthday Monday, June 3rd, 4-6pm at the new Wanaka Presbyterian Community Church Centre on Tenby Street. Families are invited to the birthday party, featuring a “mainly music favourites” music session followed by a sausage sizzle and birthday cake! Come along and remember the fun you had (or are still having) with your kids at mainly music. We’ll share photos and memories of the past ten

11/05/2013 The donation box and contents for the Hawea Fire Brigade was stolen from the counter at the Lake Hawea Store. 13/05/2013 Police dealt with a vehicle collision at the corner of Beacon Point Road and Aubrey Road. Giving way correctly could have prevented this incident. 15/05/2013 A male was abusive to staff at New World Supermarket. Thanks to their excellent security system he was a known offender and is to be trespassed from the store when located by Police. Police will be paying attention to rural speed during the next period with particular emphasis on speed past road works. Of concern at the moment is the Aubrey Road road works. My suggestion, to ensure the safety of these workers, is to go at the 30kph throughout the works or drive into town via SH6 and SH84 if you wish to travel at a faster pace. Infringements will be issued if apprehended. Ruby The Red Back and Terry The Tarantula were seen speeding last week. Oblivious to the recent speed campaigns which have been running in town, the spiders were travelling at 70km p/h in a 50km zone. If someone could just catch them, they’ll be off to court. Spiders are well known to be fleet of foot, as anyone who has tried catching one will confirm. Some species of spider can travel as far as 30 times their own body length in a matter of seconds. It does help to be fast when catching prey or escaping predators. The speed at which spiders can move – never mind the fact that they can also jump to extraordinary heights – is a problem if you want to catch and remove them from your home. You could spend hours chasing spiders or, better still, leave it to the experts.

Crown Range and Cardrona delays Stabilisation work continues on the Crown Range with the project expected to be completed by mid June. Traf¿c lights have been installed in places to manage traf¿c and while delays at each site are short, motorists are being advised to factor extra travel time into their journeys. Short delays are also possible at Cardrona Township where traf¿c calming measures, including the planting of an avenue of trees, are being installed. Plan to add an extra 10 - 1 minutes to your travel time.
