Road safety continues to be a priority and staff will periodically be monitoring speed when vehicles pass stationary school buses; remember the speed for passing the school bus both ways is 20km. One driver has been apprehended and had his licence suspended for 28 days. Under the new drink drive legislation for person/s under 20 years there is a zero alcohol limit. A young woman was caught, fined $200 and received 50 demerit points. Could locals be aware that a fire was caused at Dublin Bay due to the discharge of fireworks. Police ask that people please be careful when using fireworks as it is very easy to cause a fire that gets out of hand. A dwelling had a second story window smashed by unknown person/s, most likely by people heading home after a night out in town. A reminder that if you hear / see people walking home damaging property, call 111. A male was arrested for stealing a fire extinguisher and setting it off. A male was arrested and charged with disorderly behaviour. We continue to receive reports of opportunistic theft, in most cases the owner was away from their property and the thieves took the opportunity to have a go. A woman was arrested and charged with the theft of a jacket and its contents from a bar. A commercial boat moored near the lake front was entered and 2x life buoys and an attached battery operated light stolen. Local residents who live on Lagoon Ave and some neighbouring streets received a leaflet drop from our Community Constable Mike Thomas this week. We have received three reports of houses being broken into in the area, and primarily alcohol and food have been targeted. A sleep out was entered and the bed slept in. We are asking all residents to keep an eye out for any suspicious people and vehicles. Ask yourself the following questions - have I seen this person before, do they look comfortable, is there a sense of purpose to their activity, what are they looking at and why, how did they come to the area, is there a vehicle, how far away from the vehicle are they and what is the vehicle registration number? We suspect other holiday homes may have been broken into and the owners are yet to discover this. If you live next to an unattended holiday home please look over the fence and check it out. If you have concerns walk around the dwelling and check windows and doors. If there is any sign of entry please call us on 443 7272 or if you suspect an offender is inside the house, call 111. With approximately 30 artists confirmed as exhibiting at Art in the Park the organizing committee is gearing up for the day’s events on April 9. Artists - painters, sculptors and photographers - will exhibit their works in the leafy grounds of Minaret Lodge. There will also be student representation from the MAC gallery on display. A variety of musicians will entertain throughout the day.

“Harvest High Tea� is this year’s theme. An array of food and wine will be available to purchase and people are encouraged to bring a fold up chair to relax and enjoy the surrounds. Artist in residence, Paul Forrest from Wellington, will be working & exhibiting in the Lodge’s Pavilion.

Describing himself as a “contemporary icon painter� Paul will show existing works as well as those produced during his 4 week residency. He hopes to draw inspiration from the poetry of Brian Turner to create another art work.
