OUR PROFILE Established in 1972, the Center's core mission is to address unmet community needs, with a strong emphasis on supporting nonprofits and promoting volunteerism. We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, deeply ingrained in our community, partnering with over 1,400 local nonprofits and curating the Triangle's most extensive volunteer database. Our efforts are channeled through four core program areas: 1) Nonprofit Resources: Serving as a resource hub for the nonprofit community, we provide essential training, capacity-building support, and comprehensive volunteer recruitment and management services, all geared towards helping nonprofits achieve their missions.

2) Volunteer Engagement: Through our HandsOn Triangle initiative and coordination of the AmeriCorps Senior RSVP program, individuals can easily locate volunteer opportunities. Organizations efficiently engage their staff and members in meaningful volunteer work, contributing to the betterment of the community.

3) Student Programs: We are dedicated to inspiring the next generation of community leaders through our 7 leadership and civic engagement programs.

These initiatives encourage students to actively participate in their communities and they contribute over 40,000 community service hours annually.

4) Human Service Programs: In partnership with local Social Services, we coordinate essential programs like Share Your Christmas, Thanksgiving Dinners, and Backpacks 4 Kids, providing vital assistance to the most vulnerable members of our community.

IMPACT CAMP 4 WEEKS OF COMMUNI TY I MPACT IMPACT Camps provided high school students with a week-long urban mission experience...

5 days, 5 different nonprofits. Students heard from nonprofit leaders and focused on a service project at that nonprofit working with agencies such as Urban Ministries, The Boys and Girls Clubs, and the Durham Food Pantry.

Each week has a specific focus such as Food Insecurity, Education, and social needs. Over 80 students participated this summer.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS Working with UNC-Chapel, our Model UN is a vehicle for students to learn about and solve global issues. They worked together developing leadership and civic engagement, skills.

CIVIC ENGAGEMENT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE CELI is an intensive summer enrichment experience that is an accelerated approach to service. Students create a Capstone project to address social justice issues, presenting it to a panel of judges for the chance to be funded.

They get a first-hand look into area nonprofits and learns what it means to be a member of a civil society.

Recognition Programs Encouraging student service and providing opportunities for leadership development

Over 38,000 hours of student community service

MAYOR'S AWARD Students serving 40+ hours during the summer earn the Mayor's Award. This past year we had 164 students that served over 17,000 hours.

COMMISSIONERS' AWARD The Commissioners' Award is given to students serving 40 + hours during the school year. This year students earned more than 3,700 hours of services

PRESIDENT'S SERVICE AWARD TNVLC is the local certifying organization for the national Presidential Service Award (nation's highest volunteer award). This year we had 118 students that served 16,700 hours.

STUDENT ACTION BOARD This year we had two Student Action Board groups that met monthly to plan and execute community service projects throughout the Triangle. Former SAB students (now at Duke) as well as an associate Duke professor served as volunteer advisors.

IMPACT CLUBS Students created high-school specific clubs to continue working with nonprofits on monthly service projects throughout the school year.

ORAL HISTORY PROJECT INTERVIEWING OLDER ADULTS ...CREATING CONNECTIONS

Students were trained to talk with and record the stories of older adults creating a memory book that they could keep and share.

DIGITAL NAVIGATORS CONNECTING OLDER ADULTS ...ADDRESSING SOCIAL ISOLATION

Students helped older adults connect online to telehealth and other resources.

Nonprofit Programs

SEI TRAINING SERVICE ENTERPRISE INITIATIVE TNVLC is one of only 2 National SEI Training Hubs in NC. We conducted 2 SEI cohorts that included 12 different nonprofits and 37 staff.

TRIAVA TRIANGLE ASSOCIATION OF VOLUNTEER ADMINISTRATORS Focused programing providing training support for nonprofit volunteer coordinators.

Currently over 25 organizational members and 36 indvidual members.

FUNDRAISING TRAINING SPECIALIZED FOR EFFECTIVE FUNDRAISING Specialized training for fundraising strategies.

Held 3 sessions for 72 nonprofits.

23,284 VOLUNTEERS HANDSON TRI ANGLE The Center coordinates the Triangle's largest volunteer matching database -HandsOn Triangle as a free service. Volunteers complete extensive searches for opportunities based on skills needed, dates or even types of nonprofits!.

GOVERNOR'S SERVICE MEDALLION WINNERS 49TH ANNUAL VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR TNVLC coordinates the Governor's Service Award for Durham, Orange, Wake, Granville & Person counties. Two nominees earned honors as the top 25 volunteers in the State.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH BIMONTHLY EMAIL BLASTS Community Alerts are distributed twice a month providing information about urgent volunteer needs and important nonprofit events (sent to over 20K)--as well as weekly social media notifications. .

2022-23 IN REVIEW Key Highlights Senior AmeriCorps Retired Senior Volunteer Program Now entering into its third year of our initial 3-year grant cycle, RSVP has shown tremendous growth in both size and reach.

134 PLACED VOLUNTEERS The goal at the end of year 3 was 110 volunteers.

We have surpassed that goal with a year to go!

39 NONPROFIT STATIONS 39 unique nonprofit organizations serve as host sites for volunteers. We appreciate these wonderful nonprofit partners!

MARKETING/COMMUNITY OUTREACH Throughout the year, we hosted several volunteer engagement events, including our monthly Nonprofit Speaker Series in partnership with the Durham Center for Senior Life and the Osher Lifelong Learner Institute at Duke University (OLLI) with community outings ranging from DPAC tours to the Nasher Art Museum. We also stay connected with our volunteers and the larger community through a monthly digital newsletter with updates and upcoming community events.

1,215 MEALS THANKSGI VI NG DI NNERS PROGRAM We provided over 1,200 Thanksgiving meals to families including 813 children.

32 volunteers served 101 hours.

701 CHILDREN BACKPACKS 4 KI DS 701 brand new backpacks that were fully stocked with grade-appropriate school supplies for children in need in our communities.

27 Volunteers served over 80 hours.

2,144 INDIVIDUALS SHARE YOUR CHRISTMAS Over 2,000 people - including over 1,100 children received assistance during the Christmas holidays.

180 volunteers served 711 hours.

FEEDING DURHAM LOCAL FOOD PANTRY SUPPORT Continued coordination of countywide volunteer recruitment for Durham's small pantries. Over 1,200 volunteers have helped stock and distribute food in low-income/ hard-hit neighborhoods.
