The wedding When there's no time like the present

Pelham’s Meridian Community Centre was officially open for business as of last weekend, following an invitation-only “VIP” opening event on Friday and a public event on Saturday. According to Pelham’s Public Relations and Marketing Specialist Marc MacDonald, some 1,000 visitors attended the Saturday event and engaged in activities that highlighted the facility’s various attractions. About 20 community information displays were set up in the first floor lobby, including those of sports groups, community services, Town committees, arts and culture, and service clubs. Saturday evening saw an “NHL Alumni” match between NHL old-timers and Pelham Minor Hockey Association coaches. Audience member and former councillor Sharon Cook put attendance at 450-500, while Councillor and mayoral candidate Gary Accursi pegged the number at 600. Right, Avayah, Faith and Noelle Droppert laced up their skates and participated in the free public skate held on Saturday, while, below, Jessica Wilson serenaded the crowds. JENNIFER CHORNLEY PHOTOS

Frank had entered the McNally House Hospice in Grimsby just four days earlier, when his health requirements became more than Anne could manage. His future, he was told, would not even carry over to the next calendar page. Frank’s cancer was rare and See COLUMN SIX Page 20
