With the number of global Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases passing 181,000 on Monday, governments and medical authorities worldwide ramped up efforts to stem the spread of the virus on an unprecedented scale. On Friday, the World Health Organization

(WHO) defended drastic measures that included nationwide lockdowns in Europe and cancelations of large-scale events in North America. “You must react quickly,” Dr. Michael J. Ryan, WHO’s executive director of health emergencies said at a Geneva news conference. “You must interrupt the chains of transmission. Speed trumps

perfection. The greatest error is not to move." The global mortality rate for the virus sat at 3.9 percent. While this number may sound relatively low, at that pace it could theoretically lead to hundreds of millions of deaths worldwide if the infection rate isn’t slowed. As of Monday, Canada had 415 confirmed cases and one death attributed to the

illness. Ontario health officials reported 179 cases as of Monday with no deaths. As of Monday morning, the Niagara Region reported three cases. Niagara Public Health and Emergency Services said the infected individuals were in contact with people who recently returned from Portugal, Egypt, and "Europe." On Friday, Prime Minister Jus-
