way, high school helped each and every one of us find our passion. When we began Grade 9, most of us didn’t have a clue what we wanted to do with our lives. The only thing we knew was how to get to our classes. Since those days, we have learned many new skills. Like what to say if Mr. Hughes asks you

ALWAYS THOUGHT OF myself as an emotionally stable person. And then I had a baby. The fierceness of parental emotions first struck when my child was less than a week old. Do you know about the medical community's time-honoured tradition of the three-day-old check up? First, they find a new mother who is swimming in unfamiliar hormones. If she can barely walk upright, all the better. They tell this hormonal being that it's imperative she take her brand new, helpless, tiny human—the one she's not quite familiar with transporting yet—to a place where sick people congregate. I’ve heard they’re awarded bonus points if the woman is required to lug her baby in a bulky carrier up a flight of stairs. HEN I WAS TOLD THAT I would be the E. L. Crossley valedictorian, I knew that the stakes were so high. This is such an incredible honour. People told me to picture everyone naked to feel less nervous before my speech, but it definitely does not help. One look at Mr. Anderson and I immediately regretted it. Before I begin, a shout-out

to my mom. She has helped me throughout my life and has always been there to support me, and I just want to say thank you for all that you’ve done. Now onto the speech. Good evening students, faculty, families and friends. Today we are celebrating the achievements of E. L. Crossley’s Class of 2018. I often hear, “High school is the best time of your life,” and though

it may be cliché, I agree with it. The past four years helped shape the people we are today. Remember Maren Brandt-Riesebosch in Grade 9? She was super shy and never even thought about joining an extracurricular. This year she helped start a club while being our school’s Prime Minister!
