Heritage protection denied due to restoration cost

BY VOICE STAFF At their August 22 meeting, Town Councillors voted not to designate Pelham’s iconic Timmsdale House as a heritage building. Council reached their decision based on a staff report citing the designation as infeasible due to the building’s current condition and high cost of restoration. “In balancing the various interests and having an understanding of the state of the building and having toured the building and property, Planning staff recommend that Council not give notice of intention to designate.” Instead, the report recommends that Council “direct staff to work with the prospective purchaser in ensuring that features of merit are removed and repurposed in the redevelopment of the site.”
