The contentious property is located at the corner of Pelham Street and Welland Road. Residents that live near the area have voiced a number of concerns surrounding , including excess noise and light pollution, increased traffic, and potential damage to the vulnerable aquafer that runs beneath the property if a gas bar

is built there. They argue that the proposed facility does not fit in with the rest of the neighborhood, and is an unwanted addition to the community.

It was not until recently that a gas station was even an option for that property. A 1991 decision from the Ontario Municipal Board ruled against building a gas bar in that location, but the implementation of the town’s new Official Plan, which was approved by the OMB in July of 2014, saw
