Lowering temperatures and raising awareness
about turning down the heat and also turn off the lights to conserve energy
and recycle better.” WWF states Canada is far behind in their goal to
reduce greenhouse gasses by 2020. They say the country will be off by 113
million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions per year. That’s more than the total emissions from our electricity sector and more than all emissions from every single passenger vehicle in Canada. listened to an application to change the zoning on a new commercial development at 170 Highway 20 West. The change would allow an institutional use for the Julien School for Alterntive Learners and its related Brick by Brick program for autistic children. The commercial devel-

at Regional Road 20. Julien School has 12 students from across Niagara and hopes to increase enrolment to 20, said school director Camille Julien-Snelgrove. The staff includes four teachers. The school is meeting a need that is unavailable in Niagara, she said. See Plaza (Page 3)

Crossley Secondary School bundled up and turned down the thermometers to celebrate National Sweater Day in Niagara on Feb 6. “We’ve been involved with EcoSchools since 2008, so as soon as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) came up with their National Sweater Day, we thought it would be an easy way to promote environmental urgency,” Sharon Keller, Head of Science at E.L. Crossley said. “It gets students thinking
