James Lane is back. The former Ward 1 councillor from 2008 to 2010 will return to town council at its next meeting on Dec. 2. He will replace Ward 1 Coun. Larry Clark who resigned on Nov. 4. He is moving to British Columbia. Town councillors, at their policy and priorities committee Monday,
passed a motion recommending the appointment of Lane. They bypassed calling a byelection or advertising for applications. Lane will officially become councillor when council accepts the committee’s minutes. In an interview after Monday’s meeting, Lane said he will stress fiscal responsibility. “I’m always concerned about the way our dollars are spent,” he said. “I’m not sure about all the spending that has gone

He also finished second in a 2011 byelection behind current Ward 1 Coun. Richard Rybiak. It was called to replace Urbanowicz who resigned for health and personal reasons. Lane was appointed to
council the last time he served. He finished third in Ward 1 in the 2007 civic election and was appointed when Malcolm Allen resigned after he was elected the federal Member of Parliament for Welland in 2008.
