CHAMPIONS!
BY GAVIN CHAPMAN VOICE Staff
Your Pelham Atom A/E Panthers came back from losing the first game in a best out of five series against the Collingwood Blackhawks to become the best in the province. “It was great,” says head coach Mark Leduc on winning the Ontario Minor Hockey Assocation (OMHA) Championship. “It was almost a relief.”
“The games were so close, but even when we were behind a goal, we knew we had something. Before every game we would remind ourselves, you have to play as a team to win as a team, and we did it.” “It was team work, we worked as a team,” says defenseman and Captain Evan Lacroix. “We kept moving on, we never gave up.” Left wing and Assistant Captain Owen Leduc says the win was exciting
because, “we made a goal at the beginning that we would go all the way to the finals, and win it all.” “We won because of hard work and commitment. [Head Coach Leduc] always said to us ‘dream, believe and achieve.’” Defenseman and Assistant Captain Mitchell Waldt says the team took the prize because of their, ‘hard work, and willing to go on and on.” “It’s really exciting and awesome, next year we will win it all again.”
Left winger Cameron Crysler says it was, “team work, lots of hustle and practice that brought the team their championship. “We are all excited and proud.” Each team member was honored with certificates, and a hand shake from the mayor and councillors at the town council meeting Monday night. Coach Leduc says now that the season is over, it’s time for everyone to enjoy their summer. “Myself, I’m going to take
a break from everything, but I’ll be back to coach next season. We had an incredible coaching staff,
and the parents were so supportive. Everyone made a huge commitment, and it paid off.”
