DENISE FINDS HER ‘PLACE IN THE SUN’ AT SAN MIGUEL
Despite the heavy clouds and constant threat of rain a film crew from the Channel 4 television programme ‘ A Place in the Sun’ visited San Miguel Bowls Club last Wednesday where they spent a couple of hours filming a clip for the property show that will be broadcast later in the year. Everything of course was stage managed with many of the clips shot on two or three occasions with interior designer and tv presenter Ben Hillman posing the questions. The filming centred around the visit to the Orihuela Costa and Torrevieja of mother and
daughter Denise and Rebecca from Newark. The pair are looking for a dwelling in the area prior to the mother’s retirement. In anticipation of having far more time on her hands, Denise showed an interest in lawn bowling to the programme makers, hence the visit to San Miguel. The trio were hosted by Club Secretary Pat McEwan who gave them all brief explanation of the finer points of the sport prior to joining them as they each played a couple of ends. As might be expected the presenter and his guests showed that their skills aren’t quite yet up to the SABA Summer League standard, and with the gulley gathering up most of their efforts, neither are they likely to be so anytime soon.

Top Marks for local girl in international Singing Exam 18 year old Gemma GarcĂa Gamble, who hails from Bigastro, has achieved a superb result in her Grade 6 singing exam, awarded by the London College of Music in England. Gemma, who is taught by local professional singer and teacher, Nigel Hopkins, travelled to Wakefield, UK, two weeks ago, and was awarded a near-perfect Distinction Mark of 95% one of the highest marks gained across Europe this year - in the Music Theatre category. To win this award she had to sing and act - in costume - four contrasting pieces from different musical theatre shows, and answer many questions on the performances afterwards. These included questions on voice production, acting, characterisation, and general knowledge of the musical theatre - no easy subject. Gemma had gained experience singing with Cantemos Children's Choir, and in particular as a member of the highly acclaimed girl group, KARISMA, before both groups disbanded last year. Voice teacher Nigel Hopkins said, "This is a significant achievement. The Distinction Mark in this exam is 85%, but Gemma exceeded this by a further 10 marks. Only a few people reach this standard each year and she is to be congratulated". Gemma will spend the next few months concentrating on her final school exams, before continuing with her singing studies.

Driving Licence Fine Successfully Appealed
Earlier in the year the Citizens Advice Bureau, Spain was asked by one of its members to assess the validity of a fine received for not having changed her UK licence for a Spanish driving permit.
RJC decided not to pay the fine, but to visit Trafico instead. They would not respond to her questions about the legality of the fine, so she filled out the forms there and then and appealed the fine.
Member RJC was stopped in La Linea for having a headlight out and fined on one of the first days of January this year, just after the introduction of the ´no-fines window´ of one year following the ending of the ´2 year resident protocol´ by DGT/Trafico.
Last week, after a further visit to Trafico to enquire about the subsequent response to her appeal, she was informed that the fine was not justified, she could basically rip up the fine and the policeman who had issued the fine was incorrect.
She had been a resident in Spain for over 2 years, but had a pink photo card licence issued for only Categories B and B1. As the licence was valid for 10 years, CAB considered that it was within the maximum number of 15 years for that category. The licence was valid and legal. They advised RJC to appeal and also advised her on the correct procedure to do so, which included to not make use of the discounted payment, as by doing that, you waive your rights to an appeal.

A Musical Treat to Remember A musical feast of the highest calibre was heard on Friday night in the Centro Ecumenico at La Zenia. The well-known and popular Orihuela Costa Male Voice Choir, under their conductor Nigel Hopkins, played hosts to one of the finest choirs in the UK, Nottingham Trent University Chamber Choir, under their famous conductor Matthew Hopkins - son of Nigel The NTU choir were here as part of their Spanish tour, which has taken in the Sagrada Familia, Montserrat Abbey, and Barcelona Cathedral - and ended with a performance in the Military Church, Santo Domingo, in Cartagena. The choir were runners-up in the famous Llangollen International Eistedfodd last year and are much sought-after in the UK. Next week they perform with the Philharmonia Orchestra one of the finest in the world - when Matthew Hopkins conducts the wonderful Dream of Gerontius in Nottingham, along with his other 200 strong University choir. The following week they are backing Russell Watson on his UK tour. After a scintillating opening by the Male Voice Choir with Speed Your Journey, Go Down Moses, and the Eriskay Love

Lilt, the NTU choir took the stage and commenced a programme of exquisite beauty, amazing choral dexterity, and finely polished precision which left the audience gasping in awe and sore-handed with their enthusiastic applause. Three of NTU's young soloists gave polished performances which included Ireland's Sea Fever, Quilter's Go Lovely Rose, and a delightful aria from Don Giovanni. Notable among the Male Voice Choir's repertoire was a song, sung in the Zulu language, with a solo by Nigel Hopkins soaring above the 24 men's voices - with his back to the audience! Their programme ended with a performance of the Welsh hymn, GWAHODDIAD, which brought the audience, and the NTU choir, to their feet. The visiting choir performed an amazingly varied repertoire from classical liturgical pieces to modern composers such as Whitacre and Gjeilo. After a prolonged standing ovation the NTU were persuaded to sing a short encore, Viva La Musica! which just about summed up the whole evening - a night certain to be remembered for a long time to come. Spring Finals at RC Mar Menor Wednesday saw the second and final round of the Easter Trophy series. The day started bright and sunny with the wind at about 4/5 knots. The course was set out in a triangle with the yachts tacking up to the first buoy with the wind starting from due east to later becoming due south, this was followed by a long downwind run to the far mark, followed by a beat to the last buoy and a return tack through the start finish line. Les was acting as race officer and the starts were excellent with no one crossing the line early or any boat collisions. Six boats were entered for the second race of the series and as can be seen from the score sheet all boats completed the event without incident with some close and exciting racing. Full race results are on the group Face book page and Club website. Congratulations go to Julian Hook who won the series followed by Barry Hooker in second place and a well-deserved third place to Graham Jones. On a personnel note it’s nice to be back to the sunshine even if only for two weeks, the main reason for the hasty return is to take part in the upcoming regional regatta in Alicante next Saturday/Sunday,

MAN KILLED IN TABARCA BOAT ACCIDENT A man, 71 years of age, was killed on Saturday in a collision between 2 boats in the waters off the coast of the island of Tabarca. Reports stage that a sailboat with crewed by a man in his 60´s collided with a small fishing boat carrying two people, one of which was reported to be in a critical condition as a result of suffering heart problems, following the incident. The Maritime Service of the Guardia Civil took the injured man to the Port of Santa Pola where he was transferred to a paramedic ambulance to be

Dogs not banned from Santa Pola Castle A wave of criticism towards Santa Pola council regarding access to the historic castle for dogs has been dismissed as nothing more than social media speculation. Speaking on their behalf, the councillor for culture, Anna Antón, explained that the idea of banning dogs had been that of Councillor Paco Soler, although no official proposal was ever made. Therefore, according to Antón, there are no plans “on the table.” The move was suggested on account of the amount of urine and excrement that has recently been seen in the area, but Antón suggests that a far better proposal than banning dogs would be sanctions
against those owners who fail to clean up after their pets. The council accept that the need to protect the heritage and historic buildings from damage is a real one, but the simplest solution would be protection against urine, for example. That said, irrespective of what proposal may be tabled through the official channels, “the first thing to do would be to consult with the residents”, Antón said, and because no such proposal currently exists, and no such discussion is taking place. Medium-sized airports are those which carry between 10 and 25 million passengers, and at Alicante-Elche the growth was an increase of 21.2% in February, according to figures released by ACI Europe. Meanwhile, passenger traffic at Barcelona-El Prat airport and Madrid-Barajas Adolfo Suárez grew by 20.4% and 15.5% and consolidated as the first and fourth terminal that grew in the EU. In Europe as a whole, passenger traffic in February grew 10.3% on average. In the case of large terminals, those with more than 25 million passengers a year, traffic rose 9.1% on average and, outside the EU, only Istanbul Sabiha airport, with an increase of 24.3% of the number of passengers exceeded the Barcelona-El Prat. Dublin terminals (17.2%), Copenhagen (16%) and Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas (15.5%) have also recorded the largest increases in passenger traffic between major airports. Pineapple and Diamond Heists A news item about the theft of 3000 pineapples from the neighbouring small island of El Hierro caught my eye this morning. The theft of such an important cash crop from an island that is by no means the most affluent of the Canary Islands will have been a devastating loss to the farmers concerned, and particularly since their insurance does not cover such losses. Since the theft took place after the crop had been harvested, packed and boxed, it is assumed that the fruit has already found its way for sale on the neighbouring islands and beyond. All theft is wrong; someone gains at the expense of someone else, and can never be condoned. However, the circumstances of some thefts (or heists as Americans like to call it nowadays) are often amusing. The recent massive theft of fourteen million pounds worth of diamonds, gold and cash from a safe deposit facility in London’s Hatton Garden was one example where I found myself laughing at the circumstances. Indeed, many a television journalist covering the story found it hard to keep a straight face when reporting certain aspects of this ingenious crime. The thought of a group of elderly men, posing as gas engi-
neers, led by a 76 year old who charmingly used his London Transport bus pass to get to the burglary, gives all elderly men and women considerable hope that they can get up to something rather more interesting that playing bridge or bowls all afternoon. The technical and physical skills of drilling though a thick concrete wall, without leaving a forensic trace, is little short of amazing for anyone, let alone the over 60s. Fortunately, no one was killed in this exploit, which would have dramatically changed public perception of this case. This group of intrepid burglars used the Internet to research the equipment that they might need, equipped themselves with a diamond tester, diamond gauge, as well as a stock of informative magazines about diamonds. Despite nine million pounds worth of valuables being recovered, this crime will be remembered as the largest burglary in English legal history to date. At the time of writing, all but one of the gang members have been caught and prosecuted, and are now serving lengthy prison sentences. Not only did the age and ingenuity of this plot gain these criminals considerable attention, as well as some admiration, they also thoughtfully provided a screenplay for a future film through the recordings made of their animated conversations in a London pub, as well as in a vehicle after the raid. Agreement on Refugees Spain's acting Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy defended at the Spanish parliament the agreement reached between the EU and Turkey on refugees. Rajoy said the agreement with Turkey respected international law on asylum, pointing out that "refugees will not have to risk their lives to come to Europe" while adding that a legal path was guaranteed to welcome the refugees, allowing them to avoid risking their lives and being victims of human trafficking.
Bullying Spain Gibraltar and the Falkland Islands have accused Spain and Argentina of "bullying" after the two countries called for talks with Britain to end the "colonial situations" of the two territories. In a rare joint statement issued last week, the disputed territories accused the two nations of "ganging up" on them and ignoring the wish of the people of Gibraltar and the Falklands Islands to remain British. The statement was issued a day after Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo said Argentina and Spain were "committed to ending the situations" through bilateral negotiations".

Guardia booth finally removed In August, 2014, through a wave of publicity, the Interior Ministry launched what they considered to be a pioneering method of policing in Torrevieja, by introducing a videoconference booth on the Vista Alegre that would link directly to the Guardia Civil. This week, with considerably less publicity surrounding the event, the 150,000 euro “Ofipol” booth was turn down, put on the back of a truck, and was last seen heading out of Torrevieja along the N-332, as the Ministry withdrew the function on account of its apparent failure. During the almost 2-year period of operation, only three complaints have been submitted through the booth. Despite being at the cutting edge of video technology, the desire to use it simply wasn´t strong enough. Although there are benefits such as accommodation, healthcare, uniform and the likes, the basic salary for a new recruit in the Guardia Civil is around 16,500 euro per year. That means that the investment could have paid the salary of four and a half human officers for the two year trial period, who could have easily shared a rota of cover to have a human presence on patrol in the area instead, which would no doubt have been a far better use of resources and help make the area a safer place.

El Capitan v Ale House The league leaders faced the Ale House in this week’s fixture which saw them playing at home and scoring some great darts as usual including what looks like a 180 on the result sheet for Daddy Klimonis! Bettel, Filer (140) and Klimonis Jnr’s D8 took the first triple and then Rotella, Waddel and Klimonis Snr’s 180 (and something on the sheet that looks like ‘HOGs’ but probably isn’t) sealing the deal. It was Eddy Klimonis again getting the finish in the third triple. Waddel and the formidable Filer (140, T15-D16) did the job against Philips and Mr Whippy and then Eddy and Den Hall’s D4 saw off Cap’n Mallinson and Wing’s efforts in the 2nd pairs game. No doubt Havelock and Del Lister were delighted with the latter’s 140 and D20 finish giving them their first point and bringing the score line to 5:1 before Daddy Klimonis brought out his trademark pasta dish to revive flagging spirits. Filer was surely fortified when he got a 125 and finished on D9 before Mallinson could find an answer and then man of the match, Eddy Klimonis, did the deed again with a 140 and then checked out on D10 against Wing. Mr Whippy (100 x 2, D4) took one back for the Ale House and then Havelock (100, D3) did as well. In the penultimate game, El Captain Rotella was victorious scoring a 100 and then checking out on 96 (although it doesn’t day how but probably T20, D18?) and finally Little Klimonis (standing at least 6’ 8” tall) scored 100 x 2 and checked out on 65 (25, D20??) to give the El Capitanos yet another win making them unchallengeable winners of the league with one more game to play. Breakaways v Hub Hyenas It was a close match at Breakaways this week as they faced the Hub
Hyenas who are currently two places above them. The results went the way of the Hyenas for the three triples games with Smith (83), Hawkins (95) and Head Hyena Williams 83, D10 taking the first from Hickman, Waller and Jones. Then Miller, Letherby (140) and the mighty Eyre finishing on D4 over Chadwick, Bryan and Hickman. In the third triples Miller (2 x 100), Eyre (140) and this time Men’s singles semi-finalist Smith got a D4 finish with no high scores recorded for Breakaways. As the match proceeded to the pairs games, Breakaways found their form and took the first with Waller and Hickman (S18-D20) getting their double before Williams and Letherby. Breakaways took the next one too, courtesy of Chadwick and Hastings’ (100, D16) before Hawkins and Smith could do their thing. However, Mr Eyre and Mr Miller (100 x 2, T16-D8) did the necessary in the 3rd pairs to make the score 2:4 at the halfway stage. Breakaways then took the first two singles games when Hickman (140, D10) saw off Williams’ 95 and then Wallers (no doubt slightly tiddly 100, D4) did the deed against Letherby’s highest score of 98. It was now level pegging when alas Smith’s (100, 80, D8) saw off Jones’ 95, 81 giving the Hyenas back the lead. Wonder-boy Hawkins then pulled off 81, 100, 180, S16-D8 for a 16dart smash against Chadders. Breakaways’ Hastings then clawed one back to keep them in with a chance of a draw getting a D7 finish before the nifty little Eyre could get his. Mr Miller finally did the damage though and took the Hyenas to 7 games with 95, D8 before Cap’n Glennon could even it up for the Bears. Both teams will be looking forward to competing in the semi-finals for the team knock Out competition next week. Massey’s v Porterhouse A really good atmosphere combined with some excellent darts made for a great night for all as Masseys played host to The Porterhouse. The visitors got off to a great start with Todd, Ayres & Roof-Rack winning the first trebles despite some steady scoring from Harley, Cliffe & Smith, Todd sealing it with D18. The home side found their feet though, taking the next two legs with Field notching up 100 and a 121, while Miller matched Fields 121, comfortably taking the 3rd leg despite a 100 from Ayres for the visitors. Hayes & Roof-Rack made Field & Massey work in the 1st of the doubles, Roof-Rack playing out of her skin with a 140 before checking out with S8- D4, well what would you expect from this year’s ladies singles finalist!? The home side shook off the defeat though, taking the next 5 legs back to back with Miller hitting a trio of 100´s backed up by Harley for the home team with some excellent steady scoring including 100 & 140 along the way. Nash for the visitors dispatched Trev Massey quite comfortably, despite Massey hitting a 126, checking out with S3-D8, while Porterhouses Ayres also took Smith down to the wire with some great scoring including 100 making it 2 legs on the trot for the visitors. Miller faced Sanderson in the final leg of the night, racking up a 100 on the way, and despite some steady darts Miller went on to secure the victory with a S5-D8 checkout. Porterhouses Yvonne ‘Roof-Rack’ Rouffignac takes "Player Of Night" with some technically excellent darts along with some superb scores, well done!!

Both were trying for the double to win the game but Peter Smith put an end to all of that when he finished on D5. The last game before the break went again to Massey's when Mervyn scored 100 and finished on D4. In the singles Mervyn put in a great performance scoring 140 and finishing on D5. The next two singles also went to Massey's with Peter Cliffe finished on D15 and Dez on D10. Brian Nash sneaked the next game finishing on D8 even though Trev put in some great scores including 126. Tufty was back to his usual standard in the last winning game for the Porters scoring 100 and finishing on D8. The final round of the night went again to Massey's. Ray Sanderson put in a valiant effort with some high scores but was pipped to the post when Craig scored 100 and finished on D16. Another good night with Trev Massey as a great host. Report by Sue Sanderson Tavern v Hen’s Teeth The Chicken’s Choppers got a bit of a drubbing this week when were visited by their neighbours from the Tavern. Despite Mr Hassal, Evie Samuels and Joseph Cuyt’s D3 winning opener in the triples and Evie and Winnie’s D3 finish in the 2nd pairs game it was the Taverners who shone and got the other 10 games. Although Cox and Captain Birtwistle lost out in the pairs to the plucky chics, Mr B got the finish in two of the triples with D2 and D3 and also in his singles against Captain Mackay when he checked out on D10. Team mate Mitchell scored 101 and checked out on D16 with his pairs partner B Hobis against the afore mentioned Cuyt and Hassal. Mitchell also took down Graham White in his singles with a tricky D9 clincher. The coulourful Brown and Green also did the business with Brown ending on D1 in his pairs with Hindle over Cptn. Mackay and White and again in his singles against Samuels. Green checked out on D10 in his head to head with Cuyt. Cox and Hindle also won their singles, Cox checking out on D19 against Hassal and Hindle nailing D4 against the diminutive Levi Lynn. Not a match of many 100+ scores but clearly the Tavern have been practicing their finishing. This will be the crucial element as the final seasons games are played to determine who will end up top of league B. Will Tradewinds get blown away when they meet the Tavern in the final match on 28th? Will the Jaguars claw back their lead with two games in hand? Is it possible for Hen’s Teeth be top of the pecking order? The first game of the evening at Massey's bar went to the Porters when Toddy (alias Graham Todd) easily finished the game on D18. The next game went to Massey's when their team of Craig, Dez and Trev won the second triples with Dez scoring 100 and Craig finishing on D8. The third game saw some big scores with Dez scoring 121 and then Craig not wanting to be outdone also scoring 121. Television cameras turned up at San Miguel Bowls Club on Wednesday morning, to film the popular tv programme Place in The Sun. The programme takes prospective buyers to see various houses which are for sale and tries to show activities in the area. Prospective buyer, Denise and her daughter arrived along with the film crew at 9am, and filming took place for over an hour. San Miguel bowlers were in attendance, interviews took place and the visitors and presenters tried their hand at bowling. They had such a great time, they didn't want to leave, asking time and time again to 'have another go'. The programme will be televised in two to three months time. The Winter League were away to Emerald Isle coming away with 6 points. Another great week for San Luis, Monday 4th was the play-off, held at neutral Bonalba, between the winners of the Div A Southern League – San Luis Lions & winners of Div A Northern League – Benitachell Lions, resulting in a great WIN for SL LIONS 6pts-4; shots did not come into it! Las Ramblas Golf Society We started the week with a Team Counter Game where the number of scores required are not known until you reach the next tee. As it turned out the total number of scores needed was 47 and the team scoring the most points at the right time were Doug Wright, Tom Hardie, Alan Douglas and Mike Chapman with a total of 98 pts. Doug's two 4 pointers on the 6th and 18th sealed the victory by just one point. It was wet early on Wednesday morning however the rain soon stopped for the start of our weekly stableford competition but with many members deciding not to venture out there were only prizes on offer for the first two positions. Emerald Isle Bowls Club By Elwyn Morris On Friday April 1st Emerald Isle travelled up to Monte Mar for the VCL south game. As usual it was a tough game but EI came away with a very credible draw 6-6 with the following winning formats: Mens Singles - Pat Heaney winning 21-14, Pairs - Dennis Rhodes and Jim Mulloy winning 24 -16, nice to see Jim back in action, and the rinks completed the winning scores with a 17-13 win by Yvonne Mallaburn, Linda Vincent, Dave Close and skipped by the clubs newly elected, Captain Mike Veale. Well done on both counts Mike On Saturday 2 April the Annual Les McCracken Memorial Trophy was played for with the visiting clubs Country Bowls, San Luis, Quesada, San Miguel, Vistabella and El Rancho and the Highjackers, with the Emerald Isle providing the opposition. After the 28 ends had been played the winners were the home team Emerald Isle with Vistabella coming a close second. The EI winning rink was Linda Vincent, Sheila Wickens, Ed Shepherd and skip Peter Willicott. Congratulations to them and thanks to all opposition teams for making it a good day, and hopefully we will see you all again next year, and well done Tony, Reg and Mike for the organisation. Wed 6th saw Emerald Isle playing their last Winter League and Berleen fixtures of the season. The opposition was provided by San Miguel. In a hard
fought game honours where even at the end with a score of 6-6, 3-2 on rinks to SM, but EI took the aggregate 89-73 Emerald Isle winning rinks were Dennis Rhodes, Cas Thomas, Jim Mulloy and skip John Pooley with an impressive 31-12 score. Maureen Foulds, Mike Thomas, Jan Westall, and skip Steve Westall, coming out on top by 20-11. San Miguel took the Berleen game 19-17 on the last end. Emerald Isle returned to the Winter League and Berleen after a break of a few years. The club are pleased with the season with both teams hovering around mid table. Saturday the 9th brought the annual Presentation awards night for the clubs internal competitions held at the club. Well we thought that the 6 Card Joker Eclectic Stableford competition had been all but settled but the fantastic scores on Friday may cause a rethink especially with Rachel Leckey amassing an amazing 48 pts to take first prize on the day. It will be interesting to see how the scores will affect the standings once the numbers have been crunched. Alfies Golf Society at El Valle By Shaun Staplehurst 36 members and guests from Alfie's GS travelled to the lovely El Valle GC for the March meeting and the inaugural playing for the Terry Owen Memorial trophy. The course was in very good condition, the greens were firm and true and the very blustery wind made scoring very hard and points were hard to come by. It was a very special day in Terry’s memory, which was made even more poignant by the arrival of Terry’s lovely wife Gill from the UK, who presented the trophy and didn’t leave a dry eye in the place with her speech. “Thank you very much Gill on behalf of every member of Alfie’s Golf Society” Our winner of the day was Ian Connell, with 35 stableford points. Second place went to Pavla Serakova with 33 stableford points. The Hartley overtakes Easter Sunday, the second Race Day of the SAMM Spring Series, turned out to be a great and exciting day, despite the tardy start no doubt due to the clocks going forward the night before. There were two races of 4 laps each with the cruisers starting 10 minutes before the dinghies. The Race Officer set what he thought was an interesting course. With a southerly wind at about 10 to 12 Knots he set the first mark due SE of the gate near the moored ferries, the second due north, the third west and finally beat back. Number one proved to be very tricky and forced all crews to think and work out their strategies. In race 1, Sirocco and Mistral went over the line together bang on the start signal and after the first lap were only 20 seconds apart. Poor old Connie just about completed one lap when all the other boats had finished. Shoestring Cuatro and the Hartley crossed the line together right on the dinghy signal and exchanged the lead over the four
laps. Shoestring Uno had reefed and then lost time shaking it out. The start gate proved to be a magnet and by the time of the 4th lap the boats had to dodge, canoeists, a dozen Polish windsurfers and four CAR boats loaded to the gills with children. A very close finish, with Shoestring Cuatro winning by a few seconds. By race 2 the wind started to change from the South to the East and slightly faded. This resulted in the first lap taking twice as long as the first lap in the first race. However two cracking starts again. With a shortened course in mind, the wind picked up to 15 knots and lap times were cut to about 18 minutes, finally resulting in another win for Shoestring Cuatro. More recently Ernie Els started this years Masters with an opening score of 10 shots (which is the worst in the competitions history) missing 6 putts from less than 2ft many of which were in temper and without patience and control. You so often see players throwing their clubs about and stamping their feet and some of these players are the elite of golf and it would seem that some of them still do not understand that they are making the pressure of playing golf so much more intense for themselves. Feeling pressure is bad enough without making it worse or impossible to deal with. Anger is the worst fault in golf and often costs the golfer more lost shots than the yip or the shank and which invariably interferes with the next shot, in many cases destroys the rest of the round and often reduces a player to become very bad company. Of the ‘angry’ brigade, the ones who blame themselves are not too bad to play with although you can suffer from the ‘atmosphere’, but the ones who blame others for their mistakes are a pain in the neck, just as much to themselves as they are to others. All golfers must understand that the greatest challenge in golf is personal control and they must learn to be more patient with themselves and more tolerant of others because their scores and general enjoyment of the game will then,surprisingly, improve. Torry ease past Bunol to comfortable win Torry manager Pedreño needed to find a way to motivate his battle weary troops, following 2 disappointing defeats against average opposition.

The game itself saw Torry ease to a comfortable win over desperate Buñol, who now edge closer to Tercera League relegation.
But Torry were playing well and they continued to press the Buñol defence, knowing that they could force another mistake.
In front of one of the worst attendances for many a year the home side were much quicker out of the blocks racing to a 7th minute lead, albeit at the third time of asking. Piñango gave Torry a scare when he hit the post late on but the home side rode eased through the final minutes knowing that they had the win in the bag. Next weekend Torry travel north to Paterna. Details of the game are not yet known but keep an eye on the club website where the information will appear midweek.
Carp - R - Us Club News This Thursday, 7th April, saw Round 7 of the Spring series fished on Nancys at Guardamar. It was fished there as many of our match anglers are fishing the River Ebro in Cataluña. It was also my first time on the bank for a year. Winner on the day was Andy Foden with 7.42kg. Second was Derek King with 4.39kg, third Tom Marshall with 2.90kg and in fourth place John Brightling with 1.54kg. Next week the match is at the El Bosquet fishery on 14th April. Round 9, the following week, will be on the River Segura in Murcia town centre. The Clubs next Quiz night is on Tuesday 12th April commencing at 7.30. The cost of entry is 1€ per person and teams of 6 or less can take part.
