LA SOUFRIÈRE HIKER FOUND AGAINST ‘OFFICIAL ODDS’ was safely among relatives, friends, wellwishers and his rescuers at Bamboo Range, at the foot of the volcano. A team comprising, among others, Desron Rodriguez (Lava Man), Paul Cyrus and Ozarie Williams, with ‘Queenie Bhajan’ serving as coordinator, had decided
that they were not going to leave the hiker in the cold of night somewhere on the slopes of the volcano. Speaking with THE VINCENTIAN on Wednesday morning, still sleep deprived from the exhausting rescue mission the night before, Rodriquez said he was
informed about 7:00 pm on Tuesday 17th May that missing hiker Colin Browne was still at the volcano. Rodriquez explained, “I got a call about 7:00 pm and by the time we mobilized, we were able to leave the Windward side about 10:00 pm. There were about 11 of us on the team, but seven of us continued while the others stayed back. It was difficult to narrow him (Browne) down because the mountain was foggy and very dark. WHEN AROUND 7:00 PM on Tuesday official first responders decided that it was futile and foolish to continue a search for a hiker that had gone missing during a descent of La Soufrière (volcano),
they did not take into consideration that there would be a group brave enough to continue the search that very evening. And by 6:00 am on Wednesday, missing hiker, Colin Browne,
