(Nov. 27, 2025) objections and post-election petitions to the nominations of Dr. Godwin Friday and Fitzgerald Bramble as (election) candidates, on the grounds that they were Canadian citizens.
The objections argued that Section 26(1)(a) of the Constitution disqualifies candidates from being nominated and elected to public office if pledging allegiance, obedience or adherence to a foreign power or state.
Dr. Friday and Bramble were re-elected as parliamentary representatives in the Nov. 27, 2025 electionFriday for the Northern Grenadines and Bramble for East Kingstown, and currently serve as Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, respectively.
further consultation.
But according to the Opposition Leader, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, speaking on radio on June 29, “He (Prime Minister) said that they will put matters for public consultation, but since April, there has been no public consultation.
The Bills were included in the Order Paper for the July 2 Sitting of the House, but Gonsalves said that he thought that the prime minister said that they would not be pursuing the Bills until further consultations, and that they would not be included on the Order Paper.

THE TWO CONTROVERSIAL BILLS,the Representation of the People (Amendment) Bill and the Constitution of St Vincent and the Grenadines (Amendment) Bill, both of 2026, have been deferred. Both Bills were
included on the Order Paper for the July 2 Parliamentary meeting but were deferred, and did not come up for discussion when legislators met. The Bills find their origin in pre-election
The Bills were previously included on the Order Paper for the April 21 meeting of Parliament.
However, the prime minister indicated that they made the decision to shelve the Bills pending
“But lo and behold, when we received the Order Paper, they were still on the paper — but there has been no public consultation,” Dr. Gonslaves said in his radio broadcast.
PLACING SIXTH OVERALLand third among girls in the recent 2026 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) was no surprise to Kingstown Preparatory (KPS) student Anniah John, as the 11-year-old said she was always consistent and a top student.
Recounting her reaction upon hearing her results, she related, “I felt excited, I didn’t know what to do with myself”.
The self-motivated and disciplined 11-year-old attributed her success to sacrifices that came with cutting the time for leisure activities, such as watching television or drawing, to focus on the examination.
“I made a lot of sacrifices,
studied hard, did a lot of past papers, and went to look for quizzes”, she related.
Set to attend the Girls High School at the start of the academic year, and aspires to becoming an entrepreneur, wanting to be “my own boss”. However, she is not yet certain what area of business she would explore.
Offering advice to students who are preparing for CPEA, Anniah proffered, “At first, when you are sacrificing all the things you like to do, maybe mommy or daddy might take you out of an extracurricular activity to study, it will be worth it in the end, so just keep your head high and focus”.
Further, the leader of the opposition said that after seeing the Bills included on the most recent Order Paper, he consulted the minutes of the April 21 Meeting of Parliament and that the 30-page document did not include the prime minister’s comments about temporarily shelving the Bills.
on You Tube, Dr. Gonsalves argued, “And Friday’s words are there, so why is it left out of the minutes,” Gonsalves said.

There was no record in the minutes to show that the Speaker (of the House) had called on Dr. Friday to deal with the items on the agenda, items 5 and 6, which were the two controversial Bills, Gonsalves said.
He noted that before adjourning the Parliament (April 21), Dr. Friday had acknowledged the government’s decision not to proceed (with the Bills) , but it was not included in the minutes.
Referencing that footage of the April 21 Sitting of the House of Assembly was no longer available on the Agency for Public Information’s (API) social media page, but it was still available
He added that he anticipated that there would first be consultations before the Bills would be brought back for discussion in Parliament, but this was not reflected in the minutes as if nothing was mentioned. He contended that the minutes ought to reflect what was said and transpired in Parliament.
“Is that what we are going to have now, doctored minutes — minutes that does not reflect what transpired in the Parliament?”
However, during the ‘Confirmation of the Minutes’ in Parliament, the Opposition Leader acknowledged that the minutes were corrected.
The petitions brought against Dr. Friday and Bramble are expected to be heard in court between July 28 and 30, 2026. A ruling is expected by November, Gonsalves said. (DD)

All three men are said to have received a single gunshot wound to their heads at Great House, Lowmans Leeward on June 23.

TREVOR PEACOCKEGRANT, the son of former editor of THE VINCENTIAN newspaper, Nora Peacocke (deceased), was sentenced to two weeks in prison on Wednesday for stealing two 200ml bottles of Sunset Strong Rum, amounting to a total value of EC$27.12.
Peacocke-Grant, a 70year-old former secondary school teacher, who has resorted to a life of vagrancy in recent years, shoplifted the strong rum from Coreas Food Mart, Kingstown, shortly after 7am on Tuesday, June 30.

He pleaded guilty when he appeared before Senior Magistrate Tammika McKenzie at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Peacocke-Grant, who was unrepresented, expressed remorse for his actions.
A means test done by the Court showed that the defendant was unemployed and had no fixed place of abode, therefore would be unable to pay the fine or compensation.
McKenzie also expressed that she could have suspended the two weeks sentence, but she did not think that would be the best thing to do at this time, when there were so many ‘temptations’ around. McKenzie was apparently referring to the festive Carnival season, which is expected to reach its high point this weekend.
The facts showed that on June 27, a loss prevention officer at the store pointed out PeacockeGrant, and alerted employees that he was accustomed to visiting the liquor section requesting alcohol, then concealing items in his bag before leaving the store.
On Tuesday, June 30, around 7am, Coreas Food Mart was opened for business when the supervisor informed the loss prevention officer about PeacockeGrant, who was standing at the back of the chicken line, before exiting the store quickly. A cashier shouted that the defendant had placed rum in his bag and left.
KESROY WILLIAMS, a 27year-old man of Belair, said to have a history of mental illness, is fit to plead and participate in the Court process on two firearm possession charges, before the Court since February 6, 2026.
That’s the conclusion of a report by this country’s newly appointed resident psychiatrist Dr. Elroy Asanza Castillo of Cuba. Williams’s lawyer Grant Connell did not object to the report being tendered into evidence.
The Court on Thursday, after Dr. Castillo had outlined his
credentials to the Serious Offences Court and the Court deeming him an expert for the matter at hand, the Court accepted the report and tendered it into evidence at Dr. Castillo’s request. Copies of the details of the report were made available to the Court, and Williams’ lawyer. Williams had pleaded not guilty to the charges at an earlier Court appearance. Because of the defendant’s mental history, he was sent to the Mental Health Rehabilitation Centre for
evaluation, in connection with this matter.
Recently appointed resident psychiatrist Dr. Elroy Asanza Castillo leaving the court on Wednesday after delivering his debut professional report to a court here.

Because the Court had not received a psychiatric report in relation to the matter, as there was no one qualified then to do the report, Chief Magistrate Colin John summoned Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health, Joanne Benjamin Da Silva, and Clinical Psychologist in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Alisa Alvis, to provide the Court with an explanation. They were expected to appear in Court yesterday,
However, the PS and Dr. Alvis did not turn up as expected yesterday, given the appointment of a psychiatrist, and THE VINCENTIAN understands that they had made communications with the Court before yesterday’s proceedings.
As a result of the psychiatrist’s report, Williams was granted $15,000 bail with one surety, on condition that he report to the Calliaqua Police Station every Wednesday. The matter
The loss prevention officer pursued PeacockeGrant who had already crossed the street and was heading towards the Windward bus terminal. He was intercepted in the vicinity of the terminal’s exit and when questioned by the loss prevention officer, he admitted that he had not paid for the items. He then removed two quart bottles of Sunset Strong Rum from his bag and handed them over to the loss prevention officer, who then escorted him back to the store.

The matter was reported to the police and Peacocke-Grant was taken into custody. He gave a written statement to the police admitting to the offence and was later arrested and charged.

I HAVE NO DOUBTS there would be excitement, shocks and surprises at the 2026 World Cup. After each of the forty-eight countries has played their group games, can we make an ‘analysis’ of their performances and predict the future of the competition?
Your ‘analyses’ must not be influenced by the commentators or others, but by your knowledge and experience of the sport, so each of us would not challenge or disagree with each other, but learn from each other.
The commentators are already doing what they do best - promoting whom they like, whom they know by name from the leagues across the globe, and those who are already popular. They tell you the history of those players, when they score and make a good pass, while others have to wait.
The referees interpret push and hold differently for the team and players they like. We might look at the same game and see differently, so let’s not argue but share our thoughts.
We should accept that some of the countries want to play in these tournaments to get various benefits different from the actual sport, e.g. more people back home will want to play; to gain experience to a world event preparation and exposure to administrators and players; to encourage more investors.
Not to mention how much each country will benefit financially, and how all other FIFA affiliates, including SVG, will also benefit financially.
It is sad that only Caribbean governments and their supporters didn’t see the need to work with their football federations. They started their World Cup preparation very late, even after knowing there would have been three spots because the three host countries will not have to compete.
We must take the opportunity to watch the 2026 World Cup as it’s the end of an era of the real stars of football. So, enjoy the Tournament and remember we have to chat about next stars. Next World Cup is in 2030 and 2034. Could ‘Reparation’ be on the table for consideration why we see so many non-white players representing racist countries in the 2026 World Cup?
THERE ARE CERTAIN PERSONS on a mission to eradicate calypso and the traditional Carnival. They use their media outlet to degrade calypso and mas. To them, Carnival is anything except mas and calypso.
The drug dealers poison the youths’ brain with drugs. Some promoters use vulgar, lewd and immoral shows and music to poison the minds of the youth. The wealth accumulated from these shows will disappear soon. There is something called karma.
I believe shows for 2027 (fifty years of Vincy Mas) are already planned. I will not be shocked if one of them will be named “Come In Your Birthday Suit” or “Adams and Eves”.
Do promoters seriously listen to what they promote/push and refer to as “big tunes?” They have no serious lyrics, no melody and no story. Ras Shorty I must be turning in his grave.
If ‘Ten Years’ and “Ah Want Soca” (just two of Becket’s tunes) are soca music, how can you listen to guys rapping/dubbing to a drum machine and call it soca.
Man who for years saying calypso dying, calypso went to many of their funerals instead.
I applaud the band leaders who are refusing to be pressured out of traditional mas.
DEAR EDITOR,
I am writing to express my deep sorrow and solidarity with the people of Venezuela following the devastating twin earthquakes that struck the nation on June 24, 2026.
This natural disaster has left thousands dead, hundreds missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and vital hospitals and infrastructure severely compromised.
Even before these devastating earthquakes, Venezuela was already confronting severe challenges, including the
ongoing blockade on its oil exports and the fact its president, Nicolas Maduro, and his wile remained prisoners of conscience in a jail in the USA, awaiting trial for something only the American government seems know, All of that weighs on the current crisis with countless families lacking safe shelter, drinking water, and medical supplies.
I do not see Venezuela re-building on its own. That is why I urge Caribbean governments, especially those who have benefitted from
agreements with Venezuela, to support not only the current relief efforts by the Red Cross and the United Nations, but to join the assisting the r-building process when it begins.
There is no doubting the scale of the destruction wrought on Venezuela! It is simply overwhelming. But if we band together as governments and people we can make a real contribution to Venezuela who desperately need our help.
Let’s not forget how we have benefited from

IT IS NOW EXACTLY THREE OCLOCK in the morning of Monday the 26th of June 2026. I have had no sleep for the whole night because of the loud, boisterous amplified music which has been disturbing us since last evening. We had appealed to the Calliaqua Police Station about 7:30pm on Sunday and we were informed that an officer had left to visit the area, but at midnight when there was no improvement to our discomfiture, I called the Kingstown Office. The officer to whom I spoke said he had no authority to address my concerns, because permission had been given by the Commissioner, so he advised me politely that I should endeavor to see the Commissioner on Monday morning.
I am now left to painfully reflect on the fact that I had raised this painful subject with the present Minister of National Security, Major St. Clair Leacock, when we met at a function at the Kingstown Methodist Church several weeks ago. He had assured me that his team was working to correct the situation.
I felt assured that the situation was being very sincerely addressed because Minister of Education Mr. Jackson had also strongly expressed his desire to have this societally crippling issue
addressed with urgency. My agony last night prompts the question, “How could educate men be so callously indifferent?”
is now almost 4am and the noise still continues.

The fetes, all-inclusive or otherwise, leading up to and featured in what used to be referred to as the official period of carnival (from Calypso Semis to Mardi Grass) have been as frenzied as ever with one every weekend somewhere, but moreso on the doorsteps of the residents of Arnos Vale., now that the tarmac of the decommissioned E.T. Joshua Airport is made accessible with much ease, it appears.
Once upon a time those residents had only the scheduled noise of LIAT going and coming, now they have intensified, sound reinforcement that carries driving bass and percussions well into the morning of the next day. But that is a whole other story.
Some fete promoters would have us believe that they don’t “run to the bank’ with profits aplenty. They complain about no ‘drive in the economy’, about the rising cost of putting on a fete — security, sound, infrastructure, venue rental. But on the first note of indication that the fete is on, when the first drum beat is sounded, when the DJ screams his invitation to enter a world of bliss, the space allowed for patrons to “get on’ is quickly overgrown with human forms, primarily young females, even as ticket prices increase to offset increasing start-up cost.
Who supports these fetes in terms of providing the means for the average patrons to attend is anyone’s guess. It takes just a cursory look across the patrons to tell that many could not on their own steam afford entry to the fetes, far less purchase high prized drinks if/when they get into the fete arena. Cost for fete outfits is also a factor for the patrons though there are some observers who say that with less clothing being the “preferred attire”, the cost for this “requirement” could be less appreciable.
It is interesting to note as we ponder on the source(s) of support for patrons to the fetes, that even during previous years when there was a resounding cry of how hard the economy was, how the economy was stagnant, how there was no real money in circulation, that the average

working man had very little if any disposal income, that fetes were overscribed. Young people in particular flocked to and were encouraged to flock to the fetes to what some say was “to let off steam” and “express themselves” as each generation of young people does. Who supporting this?
If the reason for ‘feting’ is to let off steam, maybe we could consider going to a gym as an alternative. But therein lies another story. There is now the ‘getting in shape’ for the fetes by patronizing the gyms so that the gym is not an alternative but a “prerequisite”.
The funny thing is that while hundreds give the appearance of being moneyed — feting — the reality is that a large number of people are still finding it hard. What a dichotomy? A society of haves and have nots but in reality where the haves do not themselves generate their own “visible” worth.
Carnival fetes when we dig deep, tell us a lot about our society, our economy, our dwindling appreciation for traditional cultural expressions, our values (of old), not to mention how much they speak to us about what is supposedly our premier CULTURAL festival (carnival), and its components — calypso, mas and steelband,
And if we have not taken stock, the patronage at the Park for the Junior Carnival and Junior Panorama speaks loudly about the carnival art forms, their expressions, being threatened in a way and to an extent not before conceivable in our society. Fun Day or Carnival Parade?
Worse when the custodians/managers, safe-keepers of our carnival fall prey to the fete promotes (see what has descended on RISE) and encourage, promote the fete mentality over the genuine expressions of our carnival.
Here’s, for what it’s worth, an extract from our Editorial of July 10, 2015: “Time we stop, take a deep breath, and then a hard look at our Carnival, to discern whether we are playing ‘mas with the mas’; whether as we indulge incessantly in the ‘party’, we overlook those who create the real work that ensures there is a time for partying.”
I AM WRITING TODAYabout something that is a little personal. Four years ago, just before my Mom, Ettie Skeete Nee Gill, passed away, she asked me to do a little something in her memory. She said the best way to honur her memory was to do something for the school that provided all the formal education she ever received. Because of that educational experience, she pushed my sisters, Ophelia and Suzan, and me to be all that we could be. She knew instinctively that given the right opportunity, we could be anything we wanted to be, and she wanted to pass that message and opportunity on to the children who are now attending her village school, Dorsetshire Hill Government School.
So, honouring her request, I try to do a little something when I can. Today, I want to extend my congratulations to the eleven children who successfully achieved a passing grade in the most recent CPEA examination. Yesterday, I honoured my commitment to her by giving a special gift to (each of) the successful student at CPEA. Please allow me to list their names: Nathanial Gill, Elizabeth Mascoll, Mia Knights, Akeilus Arrindell, Ray-nique WalkerJacobs, Tyler Douglas, Lily Moon McDonald, Naomi Glikes, Jamal Jacobs, Ocean Greaves, and Uzziah Holder.
It would be disingenuous of me not to take the time to congratulate the teachers who worked over the last five years preparing the children to achieve these major milestones. Thank you, Ms. Glikes and staff.
Now, to the children who completed this major milestone. Moving from primary to secondary school is exciting — a rite of passage. Don’t take this right for granted, for as recently as my generation, it was not so; not everyone had that right or the opportunity to attend secondary school. For most people in my mom’s generation, primary school was the expectation; in my generation, secondary school was the expectation; today, I say to you that a minimum of a community college degree/diploma is the expectation. Find your niche and work diligently to profect that skill.
Attending secondary school can be a daunting and anxious time. Please remember, you are smart and capable. Most of all, be kind to yourself and others. You earned the right to attend

secondary school next year, so go out and make next year the best year yet. I know some of you would like to be placed at a different school, but don’t let it change your attitude towards school. The next five years are in your hands; make the best of these trying years.
Over the next few weeks, you will experience a variety of emotions and feel overwhelmed. This feeling will persist for the first few months of your journey, then things will settle into a new normal. At this point, I must congratulate Ms. Faith Grant, whose achievements were phenomenal. While her accomplishments are a testament to her courage, academic skills, and support system, I look forward to the day when all children with disabilities can record similar stories.
To all of you, remember that secondary school means a larger pool of possible friends. Choose wisely; don’t be too anxious about this challenge. A natural group of life-long friendships will organically develop over the next couple of months and years.
I am here to say to you all, after fifty years, that I am still friends with the people I met in secondary school, even though some of us are living thousands of miles away from each other. Whenever we meet up, it’s as if we were living next door for all these years.
Calling all parents and mentors! The journey of guiding our children into adulthood is an exciting adventure. Let them know that feeling anxious is completely normal as they face new challenges – from a bigger school to unfamiliar teachers and classrooms, plus more homework. For some, it might mean waking up earlier to catch a bus and start a new chapter. This transition is a pivotal moment right before our eyes, and our role is evolving. Instead of doing everything for them, we’re now supporting their growth by helping them develop vital management and coping skills. Listen openly, allow them to make mistakes, and watch them learn. Remember, it takes time – patience is key, and the process might be longer and more rewarding than you expect.

THE NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY (NDP)warmly welcomes all returning nationals and visitors to Vincy Mas 2026. As we celebrate this exciting carnival, we extend our best wishes for an enjoyable and safe carnival to everyone.
This is the first carnival since the NDP’s victory in the November 2025 general elections. With the new leadership, the excitement and anticipation for Vincy Mas 2026 have already begun to grow. Vincy Mas 2026 is promising to be a celebration full of energy. As ‘Wetty Beatz’ says, “Ting Go Nice Again.”
This year’s Ragga and Soca music are of exceptional quality. The songwriters, arrangers, musicians, vocalists, and producers deserve high commendation for their outstanding work. Their dedication and creativity have elevated the musical experience, making Vincy Mas 2026 a celebration to remember.
The calypsoes are of a high quality, demonstrating the incredible talent of our calypsonians. After twenty-five years of limited voices, only a few brave artists dared to deliver strong social commentary against the ruling Unity Labour Party (ULP) government. Today, every calypsonian is free to sing about the social issues or exploring any subject they choose, reflecting a renewed sense of freedom in our cultural expression.
Our mas men continue to showcase a high level of craftsmanship and creativity in their costume design and construction which reflect their dedication and talent. However, a significant challenge remains in securing a permanent home where they can build and store their costumes. Despite this obstacle, the government has reassured them that they are actively working towards providing a
dedicated space. This commitment has demonstrated the government’s support to uplifting our mas men and their vibrant cultural traditions.
Steelpan music continues to grow. It was particularly heartening to see the enthusiastic support for the young talents at the Junior Pan Show which showcased the next generation of steelpan artists. As the excitement builds, pan lovers eagerly anticipate the competition and rivalry at Panorama which is promised to be an unforgettable showcase of skill, passion, and musical excellence.
The police are committed to working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of everyone during the carnival. They have implemented thorough measures, and to maintain a strong presence in Kingstown. Deputy Commissioner of Police Trevor Bailey, outlined the following: “Vincy Mas is indeed the safest carnival in the region. And 2026 is going to be no exception. I know that in the back of some people’s mind, they are wondering how safe is Vincy Mas 2026 is going to be. And I say to you, if you’ve been monitoring what’s happening in the rural carnivals, you would have noticed that there was a significant increase in terms of the presence of the police, numbers on the ground. And none of those events had a shortage of police. We ensured that they were more than enough security personnel on the ground. And that is an indication that come 2026 for the National Carnival, there will be no shortage of police presence in and around Kingstown.
We know that for the ten-day period; people are going to come to
Kingstown, they’re going to consume their alcohol, they’re going to enjoy all of the shows, they’re going to patronise the bars, and we want people to come and do that. You will be doing so in an environment that is safe and secure. I want to give the nation the assurance that at every corner, at every junction, when you traverse Kingstown, you will interface with police officers who are dressed in the uniform of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force.
Patrons who are entering the Victoria Park will notice a mobile station which will be placed on the outside and those licensed firearm holders who have their firearm, you will not be allowed to enter Victoria Park to patronize any of the shows with your firearm with you. So you go to the mobile booth, officers will be there, you lodge your firearm, you’ll sign the book, they will take custody of your firearm. Whenever you’re ready to leave, you go back to the booth, you’ll sign out. You collect back your weapon, make sure that you collect the same weapon that you hand over, verify your serial numbers, get your weapon and you go home and you’ll be safe. The only persons who should be carrying firearms in the park, for the event, are the police officers.
I want to give you ten reasons why we’re going to have a safe carnival. I know we have the issues with sometimes these numbers, I don’t really like to call them. But there two numbers that have been popping up lately, a six and a seven. I know of one. I want to replace the six and the seven with one. Number one, the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force. That is the only number that we carry, one. So, if you have any bad intention, keep your intention to yourself. If you bring it to Kingstown, you will come head on, number
one. And we will flex our muscles.
And I’m saying it boldly, we will flex our muscles as hard as we can if you bring any six and seven violence, or if you attempt to bring it into Kingstown because we’re serious when it comes to that. We’re going to give the fullest support and

AN EARLY MORNING VISITto one of our more popular hardware stores provided me with an uplifting customer service experience that warmed my spirits and filled me with positive energy that lasted throughout the day.
I needed a few screws to enable some workmen to complete some repairs at my home. Unfortunately, the first hardware store that I visited did not have the type of screws required. However, the female sales attendant was exceptionally pleasant and courteous. She apologized for not having the item in stock and then went a step further by suggesting another hardware store — one of their competitors — where I might be able to find what I needed.
I was genuinely impressed. Her willingness to place my needs above making a sale demonstrated a remarkable commitment to customer service. In fact, I was so impressed by her professionalism, warmth, and genuine desire to assist that I found myself tempted to purchase a nonessential item simply to “give her a sale.”
She transformed what could have been a disappointing shopping experience into a most memorable one. Her outstanding service reminded me that true customer care is not measured solely by what a business sells, but by the way it treats those who walk through its doors.
Customer service is one of the most important ingredients of any successful business. Sir Richard Branson (born 1950), the British entrepreneur, investor, author, philanthropist, and founder of the Virgin Group, attributes much of his company’s success to the outstanding customer service provided by its employees. He emphasizes the importance of this principle by stating, “Customer service is everything in the end.”
Remarkable customer service goes beyond merely answering questions and resolving complaints. It involves creating positive experiences that result in customers feeling respected, valued, and appreciated. Businesses that consistently provide excellent customer service build and maintain strong relationships with their customers, earn loyalty, and develop a positive reputation. These are extremely valuable intangible assets.
We are assured that employees who are “likeable” are apt to attract repeat business. As my good friend and mentor, Jesus Pazos (former CEO of Neal & Massy), would say, “Customers like to do business with people they like.”
Effective communication is considered to be one of the key qualities of remarkable customer service. Employees are encouraged to be attentive to customers’ concerns, respond politely, and to provide clear and truthful information. Effective communication helps customers to feel respected, understood, and appreciated even when a problem cannot be immediately resolved. A caring attitude, patience, and empathy can invite the

customer to create and sustain a positive image of the employee and their workplace. On such occasions, such customers are likely to speak favourably about the employee and the enterprise. Employee responsiveness also helps to develop customer loyalty. Customers appreciate businesses where employees respond speedily to their inquiries and complaints. Keeping customers updated in relation to efforts that are being made to resolve their challenges and/or provide the products and services that they request can go a long way to building and maintaining customer loyalty. Employees should never underestimate the power of a follow-up telephone call, WhatsApp message, or email. These are considered especially valuable when face-to-face interactions are not possible. These seemingly “little courtesies” go a long way to assuring customers that they are valued. Such remarkable employees can be further energized when their supervisors, managers, and leaders recognize and commend such positive behaviours and attitudes.
No employee or business is perfect. Mistakes will periodically be made. Employees who take responsibility and apologize sincerely when a product or service does not meet the customer’s expectations demonstrate a level of professionalism and integrity that usher them into the realm of excellence. This is especially so when they resist the temptation to deflect the blame onto another colleague or department. Such outstanding employees focus quite intently of resolving the problem and seeking fair solutions. Companies like Nordstrom, Zappos, and Ritz Carlton are known to recognize and empower members of their workforce (they refer to them as associates) who go out of their way to resolve customer complaints. Their customer satisfaction surveys confirm that customers are often willing to forgive mistakes when they observe genuine efforts to correct them.
Customers feel special when treated as individuals rather than another transaction. For example, the cashier who observed the name of a credit or debit card holder and provides a personalized appreciation (e.g., by referring to them by name) will play a significant positive role in strengthening the relationship between the customer and the enterprise by doing so.
Research has confirmed that personalization enhances the customer experience and can have a lasting impact. The customer may not remember exactly what was said but they are likely to treasure how the recognition or comment made them feel.
As the marketplace becomes increasingly competitive, remarkable customer service will continue to play a major role in attracting and retaining customers. Individuals who exceed customer expectations through excellent communication, prompt responses, effective problem-solving, and personalized attention encourage customer loyalty and strengthen a company’s image.

IF SVG WAS ON A SLOW BOIL over the last few weeks, carnival fever is expected to rise to deliriously dangerous levels from today until next Wednesday, when young and old go out spreeing and dancing with their heart and soul.
Carnival is fundamentally a youthful affair, and Vincentian young people and their friends from home and abroad are expected to have a jolly good time.
There was a time when carnival was much more than a fete.
Carnival was a package of cultural entertainment experiences where mas, calypso, soca, and sweet pan music took pride of place. The Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) continues to offer official events. Still, these have been relegated to side shows while the ‘official days’ of carnival have been reduced to a huge fashion show where mainly young women dress up in splendar, and men follow sniffing and sifting. Who knew that little SVG could afford and entertain so many events in so few days.
Carnival is now nothing but a fete. ChalkDust, the legendary Trinidadian calypsonian, warned of the degeneration years ago when he belted out, ‘Man ah say, they gone commercial exploiting the carnival.’ Carnival was always about nakedness and rum, but there was more. The age we live in represents the triumph of nakedness and rum.
Last year, the CDC discarded Fantastic Friday and marketed rum. Good sense prevailed, and Fantastic Friday, with its traditional emphasis on calypso, reemerged. But Calypsoians and their tent organisers are killing the art form and driving away calypso lovers. Calypso writing is fast becoming a dying art. Many of those singing calypso slap a few verses together without rhyme or reason, barely a melody and more often than not insult our intelligence.
Beyond that, calypso tent night begins close to 9 pm, breaks at 10:30 for a 30-minute intermission supposedly to allow for the sale of drinks and idle chatter and ends after midnight. One has to be a diehard calypso lover to endure that level of punishment. Small wonder that tent life is on the wane and calypso is on life support. If we remember who is the reigning monarch, we would be hard press to recall the name of the winning song or anything more than a few lines? In years past, the lyrics of calypsoes that got tot he finals were recited long after the event.
And then there is soca, more appropriately labelled Soca Madness, because the young people go wild. Maybe I am dating myself as one from another era; the music is mostly bad and the singing, if we can call it that, is more akin to a primal, incoherent shout. The beat is at a frenzied pace, and the

sexualised lyrics are a little much.
How and when did rum take such a prominent place in our lives? It has been slow in coming, but it’s now a deluge. For much of my life, excessive alcohol consumption has always been frowned upon; not any more. Rum is now king and queen. Men and women alike hold their own bottle. Across the country, young and old get drunk every day. Many are simply burning off steam, but alcohol has rapidly gained favour.
The soca songs celebrate rum meetings, tell us that rum is better than women, that my rum woman never butt me yet, and call for a mixture of rum and pum pum. Everywhere is rum, rum, rum…Some have argued without merit that rum is part of our culture. Rum may be socially acceptable, but it is culturally inappropriate. Culture is memory and can be a tool in our further advancement as a people. Rum is the erasure of memory.
Warning In much the same way a campaign is waged against cigarette smoking, an urgent and determined assault must be launched against alcohol consumption.
Carnival was intended as an escape from reality. The cropping season was over, and as massa took time to count his earnings, the enslaved got a chance to let off steam: different times, same playbook. The people work themselves up with frenzied pleasure; the commercial class laugh all the way to the bank. People are now taking loans to play mas. For several years, SVG’s carnival was marketed as the hottest in the region. This year we summoned the world to our ‘great escape.’ The slippery road we are sliding are urgently in need of speed bumps lest we lose a generation.
Each age has its darkness, and we may be going through one of the darkest periods since independence. Our cultural expression draws its energy from the moment. Wild abandon is the order of the day. Discipline is shaky, and caution is thrown to the wind. Social prostitution runs rampant, and reckonings are adjourned to an indefinite future.
We are experiencing a cultural degeneration whose toll in wasted bodies and scarce resources is incalculable. Have your fun if you must, but don’t lose yourself in the process. Self-respect lost may never be regained. Our youth are our treasures; we have a responsibility to warn, guide and protect them.

THE GOOD BOOK SAID that the word of God is like a two-edged sword, so we are going to use that sword to cut down the two trees that have divided mankind for centuries.
These two trees are the two elements that have been controlling humanity for the many sunrises and sunsets.... Politics and Religion. This week we will deal with the origin of religions and their deception for the past 2026 years. As one mankind, we can state clearly that we were colonized by two foreign religions.... Roman Christianity and Islamism. In SVG, Christianity has been dominating for centuries.
Let us make this clear: no one called the Messiah Jesus Christ in his lifetime. The fact is that the English language as we know it, was not invented then. The first time the disciples of the Messiah were called Christians was in Antioch by Roman Gentiles (Acts 11:26). They did so in mockery, but the disciples later accepted the name.
The early followers of the Messiah were called Followers of the Way, Brethren, Disciples, Saints or Believers. “And all that believed were together, and had all things common...”Acts 2:44; 4:32. That common lifestyle was a threat to the religious and political systems of the day. The early Believers had a collective governing council where they met together and made collective decisions (Acts
15:6...).
As was said, the oneness of the Believers was a threat to the establishment and persecution was meted out to them. Saul, who became Paul, was chief among those arresting and imprisoning the Believers, in keeping with dictates of the political directorate of the day. After Paul’s conversion, he was persecuted by the Roman Empire.
By 30 AD, Roman leaders were actively persecuting Christians. The Roman Empire did not legalize Christianity until 313 AD, when Emperor Constantine issued the Edict of Milan, and it did not adopt it as the official state religion until 380 AD when Emperor Theodosius I issues the Edict of Thessalonica, making Christianity the only official religion of the Roman state.
By 1054AD, there was a division in the Roman Catholic Church, basically over who and what the Pope represented. The Roman Catholic Church split into two branches — the Roman Catholic Church in the West and the Eastern Orthodox Church in the East.
There was to be another major split in 1517 AD when a Catholic priest Martin Luther argued that the Church had strayed from the Bible and was corrupt. This resulted in Western Christianity dividing again into the Catholic Church and various Protestant churches. By the 153334 there was another split. This time, England passed laws in parliament to remove themselves from under the authority of the Roman Catholic Pope.

for the purpose of regular bible study, prayers, fasting and charity.
February 28, 1784: John Wesley officially chartered the first Methodist Church in the United States, allowing the movement to become its own independent church.
So, the Roman Catholic, (French/Spanish), Anglican (British) and Methodist were the first set of foreign Christians to come to Hairoun. They were the first to build schools in our Islands. The churches were the instruments that British colonialism used to destroy our language, culture, first that of the African slaves and then that of the Garinagu, after killing our Chief Chatoyer and exiling our freedom fighters to Balliceau then Roatan.
Prior to the French, Spanish and English, we had a Converted Religious Faith, practicing water baptism and common ownership of the earth, just like the early Saints as recorded in the book of Acts. We had a Spiritual Garifuna Empire. Our language was an Asianic (Indian)/African. (Esther 1:1) mixture.
When the Romans took Christianity as State Religion, they used some of the Saints doctrines and names, but dismantled the governmental and spiritual structures of the Most High government that was established by the Messiah. The church government that Jesus, Yeshua the Messiah established, was a wellorganized unit. Its leaders were taught not to govern like the Roman leaders ...as dictators but as servants of the people (Lk.22:24-30).
By 1533 Britain, under King Henry V111, passed a law stating the King–not the Pope–had final say in all matters in England, and by 1534 passed the Act of Supremacy that made King Henry VIII the “Supreme Head of the Church of England”, known as the Anglican Church, with the Archbishop of Canterbury as spiritual head. The Methodist church was formed out of the Anglican Church, when, in 1729, brothers John and Charles Wesley and other students of Oxford University formed a small group
In the 1980s and 90s there were some radical Roman Catholic priests in the Caribbean and Latin America, who saw the light and wanted to reestablish the original church doctrine as practised in the bible. We are looking forward to seeing you conscious priests doing the works of the Most High by building the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. The Pope can lead and receive forgiveness, a la the transatlantic slave trade, etc.
More to come on other religious denominations’ orientation and function and the role of governments on our journey to build our Caribbean civilization.

FORMER PLAYER VINCENTIAN STACY-
ANN ADAMShas transitioned from the cricket playing field to international cricket commentary, providing insightful analysis in the tradition of pioneer Donna Symmonds.
Stacy-Ann is officially the first female test cricket commentator from St Vincent and the Grenadines.
She wrote herself into West Indies cricket annals when she did her maiden commentary stint during the first test match between the West Indies and Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium, June 24th to 28th 2026 in Antigua.
Speaking to the VINCENTIAN, after the test match, Stacy-Ann look backed on her journey.
“The journey has been incredible so
far. One of the best parts has been getting the opportunity to interact with persons I grew up watching on my television and cheering on. It’s a surreal feeling getting to rub shoulders with some of the best in the world and one I won’t ever take for granted.”
Adams continued, “It is definitely a privilege to be among some of the best in the world. To be surrounded by people with years of experience and a wealth of knowledge brings a big learning opportunity for me, as I am still a rookie in this. If I sit down and think about it too much, it can feel intimating, but they have all been very welcoming and generous with sharing their knowledge. That has made the environment comfortable and allows the opportunity to grow.”
With respect to her aspirations, Adams said, “Right now, I must say I am living the dream, especially with a test match debut. Looking ahead, it is just about grabbing every opportunity that comes my way. Ultimately, it would be good to do an ICC World Cup especially for females. However, the focus now is on continuing to improve and hopefully really soon I can be in higher demand.”
Stacy-Ann’s debut moment in ‘live’ cricket commentary was the Vincy Premier League in 2020. Her first structured broadcast environment came during the men’s Regional Super 50 in 2025.
Stacy-Ann Adams’ journey from the playing field to the international commentator’s booth is a reflection of

the new era of cricket, where female participation goes “beyond the boundary.”

THE ROUND OF 32has wound up and attention turns to that of the Sixteen.
The Canada/Morocco clash tomorrow Saturday July 4 at 1 pm adds flames to the already raging inferno.
Paraguay and France prolong the intrigue. The Saturday fixtures featuring Brazil and Norway, and England and Belgium bring out the best on this stage.
A USA/Belgium battle Monday July 6 at 8 pm may force some revelers off the street of Capital City Kingstown. Some might abandon the Monday jam in the interest of football.
The countdown was finalised yesterday with Australia and Egypt on show.
The Argentina/Cape Verde encounter will be a clock stopper. Viewers are keen on the Cape Verde tale. It is stunning regardless of how yesterday’s results pan out.
Whether Colombia or Ghana advances will be a signal of relief or grief.
Quarter finals begin Thursday July 9 and will be determined Saturday July 11. Semifinals are Tuesday July 14 and Wednesday 15. The final is set for Sunday July 19.
Speculations are rampant as to who the finalists are. I will wait until the teams are determined to say who they are.
Sport fans can juggle their attention on screen. Cricket fans will woo the West Indies to another victory. If it is commanding as that one against Sri Lanka last Sunday, the sense of euphoria will heighten. Having been used to dosages of disgrace, the enthusiastic following might have reduced. Performances from Amir Jangoo (233), and Roston Chase (194) shattered the record

books. Their sixth wicker partnership of 401 reversed recent fortunes.
Barbadian commentator Tony Cozier used to say: ‘one swan doesn’t make a summer’. It is encouraging the tenacity the pair displayed.
Our batsmen have the capacity to acquit themselves and sustain their momentum more often than they have been doing. If more players adopt the approach of valuing their wicket, the score card will improve. Our bowlers will be motivated to play role.
There is the desire in the squad to set aside the scars and humiliation we have endured. It is time to regain our composure in the Test arena. After that, elevation in the other spheres will be automatic.
A good Test cricketer can fit into any T/20 squad. Just by sticking to the basics, and learning to switch gears and being environmentally aware are aspects of the sporting brain than persons have to promote.
Football and cricket are not the only sports. A serious basketball assignment is being undertaken by our national team. This is an area that we just might have relegated to periphery.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines has shown pedigree in Basketball, to wit Adonal Foyle.
A spirit of coordination will redound to the national good. A willingness to accept reality and work towards solutions are always the best options.
Fulfilling the cause of sporting development is an integral part of the drive to uplift the nation.
THE EXECUTIVE of the St, Vincent and the Grenadines Football Federation (SVGFF) now has the task of paying greater attention to its Grassroots Football.
This was one of the key recommendations unveiled at a forum held Monday June 29, 2026, at the Methodist Church Hall, Kingstown.
Emanating from months of data collection and interviews, a FIFA team of Regional Technical Consultants, including Ian Greenwood and David Abdul, presented their findings known to affiliates.
Citing as critical if St Vincent and the Grenadines Amateur Football is to be enhanced, Abdul stated: “Appoint a dedicated staff member within the St Vincent and the
Grenadines Football Federation to focus on Grassroots Football development, ensuring that it receives the attention and resources needed separately from the technical and women’s departments”.
Additionally, the national Football body has been ordered to restructure the SVGFF to establish dedicated positions for long term strategic planning and coordination across all Football development areas, ensuring a more focussed national approach.
Also, in shaping a better pathway to success, the SVGFF has been asked to identify funding and support opportunities, strengthen stakeholder inclusion as well as adapt and scale successful initiatives and

set up an Association Football Forum. Abdul reminded the affiliates that the recommendations are for all to work towards, not only the men and woman who have been elected to serve on the Executive of the SVGFF.
President of the SVGFF- Otashie Spring who was present at the forum, assured that his organisation will act swiftly on the findings.

THE ST. VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES Calypsonians Association has acknowledged the contributions of four of its members.
The quartet comprised Errol “D Man Age” Rose, Bernard “Reality” White, Earl “ Exposer” Isles and Bernard “ J Gould” Hazel. Each honouree received a plaque at Friday, June 26, 2026, appropriately during the staging of the National Calypso semifinals.

When Errol “D Man Age” Rose made his entrance onto the National Calypso stage in 1976, with the Clymax Calypso Tent, he was part of a four-member tent.
By the following year, “Age” was the first runnerup to the Mighty Toiler in the National Calypso Monarch competition. He rendered his memorable, biting social commentaries, “Who Cares” and “Spectacles”.
In 1978, “Age” went one place better, taking the crown with “In the Ghetto” and “Dey Go Ban It”. He migrated to the USA during the 1980s, and understandable, his contribution was limited. However, having settled comfortably in New York, he returned with a bang in the 1990s reeling off hit after hit.
Like fine wine, “Age” was his vintage best, as his powerful “We got a Country to Build”, earned him another national Calypso title in 1000. That masterpiece set him apart as he retained the crown, (in 2000) placing him in among a select few who had claimed three crowns or more. His numbers that year included “If I coulda I woulda”. This year, 2026, his Golden Jubilee in Calypso, ‘Age’ paid tribute in song to his multitude of fans his thankful piece “My Fans”.
Errol ‘De Man Age’ is an active member of the Dynamites Calypso Tent, New York.
“Bernard ‘Reality” White came to the fore in 1974, whetting his feet as a member of the Ambassadors Calypso Tent headed by Lloyd “Lord Hawke” Providence, who later transitioned to “Caribbean Hawke”.
In 1976, “Reality” set himself as now mean

composer when his “Steelband Music”, was played by every steel orchestra appearing in that year’s Panorama Competition.
No surprise as “Reality” had by this time established hinslef as a leading steelpan aficionado playing pan with Labour Stars Steel Orchestra, Starlift Steel Orchestra, and Abbucalypse Steel Orchestra, that later became 20th Century Steel Orchestra.
Reality’s “Where do we go from here”, sang in 1979 at the finals National Independence Calypso Competition, remains one of his timeless masterpiece.
Likewise, his 1985 hits “Champion” and “Kingston Too Small” are among Reality’s most memorable songs.
Not forgetting his “Egmont Street Jam” and his tribute to the St Vincent and the Grenadines Football team, following its exploits in the Caribbean Football Union’s competition in 1979.
Celebrating 52 years in the Calypso business, “Reality” was crowned the 2026 East St George Monarch, with his “Ban Bare Batty Mas”.
And as he said in song, “As long as the Almighty gives me strength, I will always be in a calypso tent.”
Bernard ‘Reality” White was a member of the Upstage Experience cast in 2026.
“What Causes the Problems”, “You call that Right”, “Which One Good, Which One Bad”, “Billy Button”, “We Could Change That” and “Bounce Back’ are just some of his memorable calypsoes,. reeled off by Earl “Exposer” Isles, since his emergence in 1976.
His compositions over the years were punctuated with a mixture of wit, seriousness and humour.
There is no doubting his
dedicated to his craft, but it is his dapper look whenever he hits the stage to perform, that has set him apart from his contemporaries.
Whilst a consistent performer, the title of National Calypso Monarch has eluded him, his resume shows many appearances at the semi-final and final of the Calypso Monarch.
He however, in 1982, was crowned winner of the National Agricultural Exhibition Calypso Competition.
A protégé of renowned calypsonians Jeffers “Mighty Sheller” Alexis, and Hollis “Mighty Chalkdust” Liverpool, he has fashioned his style to their style.
Additionally, “Exposer” cited the late Renwick Rose as a contributor to the discipline he has learned to apply to the art of calypso composition and performance.
Reflecting on his long career, Exposer proffered, “A true Calypsonian must be disciplined. Once you are serious, it could change your life”.
“Exposer” performed with the On Tour Calypso Tent this year.

A veteran calypsonian who hails from Bequia, there is no one else from that Grenadine island, whether before on in his time, been able to stand up to the rigors of calypso singing and performing than B Bernard ‘J Gould’ Hazell.
Since making his debut in 1982, he has become one of the Grenadines isle’s most recognisable and long serving artiste.
Reeling off hits such as “Mas in Town Again”, “We Playin”, “Blow Your Horn, Hold Your Brakes”, ‘The Natural Place”, “Man Just rriving”, “Sweet, Sweet SVG”, and “Greatest Whaler Man”, the compostion that immortalized in song the exploits of Athneal (often spelled Atneil) Ollivierre, a legendary traditional whaler from the island of Bequia. Athneal (often spelled Atneil) Ollivierre was a legendary traditional whaler from the island of , ‘one of the very last people in the world to hunt whales using only a sailboat and a hand-thrown harpoon’.

“J. Gould” was crowned Bequia Calypso Monarch in 1985, 1993, and 1994.
For over 40 years, he has been committed to promoting Calypso, using his songs to celebrate community, culture, Carnival, and the unique spirit of Bequia. He is known work with Country and Western group on the island, a genre of music that is popular among the native population.
Bernard “J Gould” was a member of the 2026 cast of the Graduates Calypso Tent.

Bishop’s College Kingstown, with a repeat win among school-based bands, may just be giving indication an eventual return to the national senior competition where they held their own.
THE RESULTS OF THE 2026Junior Panorama titles, stayed as they were in 2025.
This meant that the Courts Bishop’s College Kingstown and the Starlift Steel Orchestra remained as title holders, when they successfully defended their crowns on Sunday, June 28 at Victoria Park.
Bishop’s College Kingstown held on to the title for school-based steel orchestras with a winning performance 215 points, as they belted out Winston Soso’s ‘Dance With Me Again’.
Second was the St. Mary’s Roman Catholic School whose rendition of Becket’s ‘Ah Want Soca’ saw them amassing 208.5 points.
In a switch of places from 2025, the CW Prescod Primary fell one down from their second place, tallying 192 points.
Former championsCW Prescod did Touch’s ‘Mind Yo Pickney’, with Kesslon Wilson putting his spin on the arrangements.
Meanwhile, Starlift extended their reign in the Community Bands segment, with their interpretation of XAdus’ ‘Baila Sanka’ earning them 268 points.
Symphonix Steeel Orchestra was second on 254 points, as Jomoro Francis wove his arrangements of Asterick’s “Disco Ivy’.
Playing ‘Ah Love me Wife’ by Touch, Elite Steel Orchestra placed third on 188 points.
Kingsley “Hero” Roberts, who arranged for the two champions, as well as the St Mary’s
Roman Catholic, whilst cherishing the titles, said he was not pushed as in previous years.
“It was a bit easier than in previous years, because we did not have much bands because the more bands are more challenges, because you never know what can happen. With three bands it was an easier squeeze,” Roberts claimed.

He cited the absence of Starlift’s main challengers over the years- the Sion Hill Steel Orchestra, as one of the reasons why there was a muted celebrations at the announcement of his band’s victory.
Former champions — Sion Hill has opted out of the 2026 Panorama, as the organisation transitions to a new administrative framework.
Despite not being pushed, Roberts said he was pleased with the output of the three bands for which he arranged.
“I am very proud of the youths, as you know, St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Carnival coincides with external and internal exams, but all in all we got the job done and we made it”, Roberts related.
Roberts said he will not be resting on his laurels as he expects greater competition come 2027.
Six bands, three in each of the categories contested the 2026

St. Mary’s RC School, still considered the 'babies’ in the competition, did themselves proud with a second place among the schools.
both the schools and community band categories, with the Bishop’s College Kingstown and Starlift Steel Orchestra, respectively, ArrangerKingsley “Hero” Roberts was disappointed with the low turnout of bands at Junior Panorama, 2026, Sunday 28th June.
One of three Junior events held annually as part of Vincy Mas, Sunday June 28, Junior Panorama saw the participation of a meagre six bands: three in each of the two segments.
Speaking to the VINCENTIAN at the Victoria Park, minutes after the announcement of the winners, Roberts’ subdued look was one of concern.
“Once we used to have
bands in the teens, now we have single digits. I am very disappointed; the art is what I always look out for. Winning comes secondary”, Roberts expressed.
Roberts said that the need for more bands can and will make the Junior Panorama more competitive.
“Competition makes you fight harder; It makes you better. When you are winning, winning, you are too relaxed, but if you have some challenge and someone comes and whips you, you need to come hard next time”, Roberts reasoned.
Seeking answers to address the downturn in Junior Panorama and the art form as a whole, Roberts advanced the need for reactivation.
“There are lots of steelpans packed up in different areas in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and there are no bands, so there is no functioning”, he assessed.
Roberts thus cited the need for leadership to reenergise the art form.
“ What is lacking is leadership. We need some serious groups to run our bands because if it is left to pan men it will not work. It needs leadership that is vibrant, who can run the bands properly”, Robertsemphasised.
He also advised that functioning steel bands need to be their brothers’ keepers.

Kinsgley ‘Hero’ Roberts who has been involved with steel bands for most of his life and in particular the Pan Against Crime Initiative.
“ What we also have to do is to visit bands, find out from them their problems, spend a day with them, socialise, meet them halfway and try to help them”, Roberts advised.
Roberts is hopeful that all stakeholders will take the matter seriously and make amends ahead of the 50Tth Anniversary of VINCYMAS in 2027.

THE COMMUNITY of Dorsetshire Hill, overlooking capital City
Kingstown, has every reason to be proud. Samaya Hutchins,
representing the Dorsetshire Hill Government School, and going by the soubriquet ‘My My’, worked her way to the Primary School Caylpso Monarch title. She rendered the number ‘Journey to prosperity.’
‘My My’ was sure as to direction the nation must take. With placard bearing colleagues supporting her delivery, the youngster got her message where it mattered. “’When we work together, we will go further,” sang ‘My My’ in part of the song.

LYLANIE “SINGING
LILY” BASCOMBEof the Thomas Saunders Secondary School was crowned the new Junior Soca Monarch, after delivering an electrifying performance of her song, “Earthquake”.
Bascombe outperformed the pre-show favourite defending champion Alexcia “Lexi” Deshong and six other finalists on her way to securing her first Junior Soca Monarch crown.
Speaking with THE VINCENTIAN following her victory, the Greiggs native said the win was especially meaningful after several previous attempts.
“This is my fourth time, and this is the first time we have won,” Bascombe said.

The young performer admitted she was nervous before taking the stage but remained confident in her ability to deliver.
“I was very excited and happy to win. I was a little nervous before the performance, but I knew I was going to perform well,” she said.
Despite her success, Bascombe said she believed there was still room for improvement.
“After my performance, I felt I could have done even better,” she added.
The newly crowned monarch expressed heartfelt gratitude to her mother, Cordelia Baptiste, for assisting with her performance preparations, and to her songwriter, soca artiste and teacher- King Jace, whose composition propelled her to victory.
Looking ahead, Bascombe said she intended to pursue a career as
It was double delight for Dorsetshire Hill Primary School. Amina Lucas with her number ‘Good role models,’ secured second spot, thereby adding reason for celebration. That the Dorsetshire Hill competitors were so successful was due to involvement by supporting players. They supported their singers with appropriate props. a soca artiste, while also following her passion for football.
King Jace described the victory as a milestone in his own career, noting that after five years of writing songs for Junior Soca Monarch contestants, this was his first winning composition.
Defending champion Alexcia “Lexi” Deshong placed second with her performance of “Craze”.
Third place went to Demi “The Diva” Bruce of the Bishop’s College Kingstown with her performance of “Soca.”
The other finalists were Katelaya “Singing Kathy” Nero of the Barrouallie Anglican Primary School with “Cah Wait”; Malik “Tempa” John of the Sandy Bay Secondary School performing “Yellow Fever”; Aniek “Calypso Flames” Stapleton of the Evesham Methodist School with “Together as One”; and Janiya Lavia of the Tourama Government School with “No Child’s Play”. School.
‘Singing Blessing Compton’, from the Calder Government School, did the number ‘Pillar of truth.’ A petite figure, , ‘Blessing’ showed that she will not be outclassed and was undaunted.
The junior calypsonians were accompanied by the band Vykinz, horns inclusive, led by Junior Sutherland. (WKA)
(CDC)had to bring another chair on stage for the “crowning segment of the of the Junior Calypso Monarch — Secondary Schools.
This when Devine Walters, from the St. Joseph Convent Kingstown (SJCK) and Alexcia ‘Lexi’ Deshong, Sandy Bay Secondary, tallied the same score in the last Tuesday Competition.
‘Lexi’, already with a notional profile based on her list of performances last year, had to share the title with Devine who did a timely number ‘’Mr. AI’. ‘Lexi’ did the number ‘I cry’.
Ameeah Glasgow, St. Joseph Convent Kingstown, further enhanced the institution’s image, earning the third place with a rendition of a song titled ‘Blessed be the Peace makers’.

Kerieka ‘’Kherie” Mc Caul from St. Joseph Convent Marriaqua and doing ‘Restore calypso’, opened the secondary School package. Divyne ‘Skye’ Hackshaw of the SJCK did ‘Silent cry’. Jolicia Byron - Sandy Bay Secondaryrendered ‘Good Old Calypso’, and Casnique Williams representing Georgetown Secondary with ‘No Refugee’ completed the cast. (WKA)
FOLLOWING ON THE TRENDover the previous three years during which the title of Junior Band pass through the hands of three bands, not allowing any one band to repeat during those years, the title has once again changed hands.
Nelson Bloc is off to a good start taking the Junior Band of the Year title, its first since 2024, amassing 438 points with its 2026 presentation ‘Through the Eyes of an Artist’.
St. Vincent Distillers Ltd Blondie Bird & Friends, who had dominated the Junior Band of the Year
competition in the last decade or so, had to settle for the runner-up spot with 425 points with the presentation ‘Lost in Paradise’.
X-Treme Fanatics finished 3rd with its presentation ‘Spirit of Caribbean Carnival’ and Mirage Productions 4th with ‘His Legacy’.
Nelson Bloc also took the ‘Best Junior Section’ category with the section ‘Crayon Dream’, and fourth in the same category with ‘Sketchbook Rebels’.
Additional silverware for Nelson Bloc came through Acalib John who was adjudged this year’s
Junior King with a portrayal entitled ‘Master of the Stroke’.
Blondie Bird & Friends had some consolation when they took the title of Junior Queen of the Bands with Alazne Niles’ portrayal of ‘Celestial Paradise’from the band’s 2026 presentation ‘Lost in Paradise’.
Kamara Stapleton representing SVG Player Int’l placed second with “Mama Quilla —Moon Goddess’; Aja Brewster presenting “Laundry Chores —The Jooking Board’ from Lynx Mas Band took third place; and Nia Saul of

BEST SECTION: The section “Crayon Dream’ which cop the best Section Award helped propel Nelson Bloc to another Junior Band of the Year title’ with their presentation ‘Through the Eyes of an Artist’.
Melbourne Artisans took the 4th spot with ‘Queen of Carnival Pageants 1951 — 1954. There were the usual competition categories for age groups with participants coming exclusively from the mas bands and not including independent costumes, i.e. not attached to any mas band, as many adults and parents would like to see
returned to the Junior Carnival.
Thirteen Mas Bands participate in this year’s Junior Carnival competition. In addition to those referenced earlier in this article, the others were: Beautex International, Metrocint General Insurance High Voltage, Verlene Ralph &
the Professionals, Energy Mas Band, My Imagination and Leeward International.
The masquerade bands take to the at Mardi Gras on July 7, vying for the 2026 Band of the Year title, which was won by Blondie Bird & Friends in 2025. (DD)

HAVING FOUR OF THE TOP TEN places in the 2026 Caribbean Primary Exit Assessment (CPEA) is a welcome return to the national academic limelight for the Kingstown Preparatory School (KPS) . Making it in the top ten for the KPS were Naailah Stevensonsecond, Amiah Anderson- third; Anniah John- sixth and Orije Brewster- tenth.
Responding to the overall success of the institution- Acting Principal- Jonathan Noel, expressed elation with the results.
“I’m feeling elated, I’m feeling happy with the pass rate that we had. Overall, I think it was either 99.2 % overall. I think one person was not successful, but generally every one of the students passed. Getting back into the top ten is a good feeling, and I’m hoping, by God’s grace, that is not the first time that in a long time we’re
going to be there. I’m hoping that next year, if we could improve, or we should improve on what we did for this academic year,” Noel stated.
The Acting Principal shared that there is a structured approach being adopted that should ensure success of the school, in the long term.
Noel thumbed the area of Reading, which has been tackled in a systematic manner.
“Reading has been a challenge for so many years, but getting back to where we’re getting all the students more familiar with the basics, and also with the hardworking ethics of the teachers too,” Noel said.
With the whole school approach in train, Noel highlighted the input of the teachers, especially with the 2025-2026 Grade Six cohort.
“Some of the teachers during the holidays were working with the students, giving extra

classes working with them. I must commend also the parents’ support, too, as that is very, very vital in Grade Six,” the principal noted. Preliminary results indicate that 1557 students (732 males and 825 females) were successful in the 2025 CPEA, representing 88.47%, a slight increase on 2025, when 87.34% met the threshold. The final examination took place May 13 and 14, when a total of 1760 Grade Six students sat the exams.
Dear George,
I RECENTLY MADEan unexpected visit to my girlfriend at her workplace only to find her wrapped up in her boss’s arms and giggling. When she saw me she tried in vain to wriggle free from his hold. Imagine, George, he questioned her about behaving nervously.
When I asked him why he was frolicking with my woman, his response was she had told him she was single and disengaged. He honestly did not know she had someone in her life. I told her there and then that I was done with her. She tried to make me feel guilty by telling me that the car I bought recently, and the down payment she made on a plot of land were because of her boss’s good nature. She wants me to allow her to keep seeing him so that in the end we could be financially stable.

I told her I was going to expose her this time. This is the fifth time she was caught cheating. I am wondering if to give her one final chance.
For a relationship to make strides and be successful there must be a high level of commitment, loyalty, trust and respect exhibited by each party. Your lady friend has repeatedly shown that she does not subscribe to these values. By giving her another chance you would be postponing the inevitable. Its time you move on.
Dear George,
I HAVE BEEN with this girl for two years.
Lately I have been having some doubts as to her true nature and the reason why she is with me.
I am fairly well off, i.e. financially secured. All of a sudden she is behind me to add her name to a number of my properties, to my bank account and to make her the beneficiary on my insurance. Her
reasoning is that if I did that would be proving I really love her and will not leave her for another woman.
I totally disagree with her reasoning and as a result it is causing a rift in our relationship. From the looks of things, I don’t think we are going to last for much longer. Your thoughts.
Skeptical
Dear Skeptical,
Adding your girlfriend’s name to your properties, etc. is not going to prove how genuine your love for her is. On the contrary it will prove how senseless you are. If she needs to have those things done to be assured of your love for her then you need to stop and examine things a bit closer.
Maybe somewhere in there where you think you are smelling a rat, there is actually a rat.
George
Dear George,
MY GIRLFRIEND INFORMED ME
that in the two years we have been together we have had sex 142 times, which is 100 times less than in her previous relationship.
I made it clear I did not want a sex statistician in my relationship, but she countered with I needed to step up on my sexual performance if I wanted her to remain with me.
I thought I was dreaming! Is this the kind of woman a man should be with?
Shocked
Dear Shocked,
It is not usual for couples to keep score of their sexual performances but it is very unhealthy to
compare results with past relationships.
Ask your partner to focus on the present and what’s working, and cease comparing you someone in her past. This is a recipe for closure. If sex is that important to her then maybe you two need to have an honest discussion on your compatibility.
George

A MAN WHO ENTEREDRanjhomae Bakery at Stoney Ground, commonly called Randy’s Bakery, and made off with a cash register containing cash, will be sentenced on July 10.
Appearing at the Kingstown Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Zimran Cupid pleaded guilty to entering Ranjhomae Bakery as a trespasser on June 16, 2026, and stealing a Casio cash register valued at EC$3,500, containing $90 in cash, the property of Ranjhomae Bakery.

Around 9:15am on June 16, she was at home when she received a phone call from the Manager, who is her sister, informing her that the bakery had been breached.
She left home and went to the bakery to make checks. She subsequently reported the matter to the police, and handed over CCTV footage from inside the store and handed it over to the police.
The police reviewed the footage resulting in Cupid being identified as a suspect.
On June 24, police went in search of the defendant and met him at Stoney Ground. He was taken into custody, then to an area in between Stoney Ground and the Park, upon which he pointed out where he had thrown the cash register.

JEFFERS “THE MIGHTY SHELLER” ALEXIS holds the record in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, capturing the national calypso crown a total of seven times. This includes a hat trick from 1965 to 1967 and four consecutive wins (a beaver trick) from 1970 to 1973.
Zamfir “Man Zangie” Adams has captured four crowns. He is remembered for his hattrick from 2014 to 2016, and his victory in 2018.
The question on all calypso enthusiasts’ minds would be: Can defending monarch Raeon “Madzart” Primus, with two consecutive

wins to his credit — 2024 and 2025 — join “Sheller” and “Man Zangie” in the rare air of hat trick winners?
To do so, Madzart will have to overcome four previous Monarchs — Grantley “Ipa” Constance, Kenneth “Vibrating Scakes” Alleyne, Lornette “Fya Empress” Nedd and Shaunelle McKenzie.
In addition he would
have to be on the lookout for the wing attacks from debutants Chanique Bailey, Keneley “Lyrical Melody” Baptiste, Kemmy Christopher, and Utamo “Bongo Prime “ Rose, and the likes of veterans Cecile “Lil Bit” King, Robert Patches Knights and the youthful Shena Collis. Showtime is set for 8:30pm, Sunday 5th July 2026, at Victoria Park.
